Just the whole vibe between the two. If I hear the song, I think about the movie. If I watch the movie, the song is completely interwoven throughout, maybe only one or two other songs in the movie are both part of a scene, like heard from a radio. I grew up about an hour from where the true story happened. I think it was filmed in Kentucky but the rural aspect was spot on. Both the song and the movie are nostalgic. I remember the whole prison escape thing back in the 2000s.

@@leepadua8987 Sadly, I think that will probably never happen. Leonard's said that he will probably never work with her again. One of his biggest beefs was her going to Shep Pettibone for remixing his songs. And it's a real shame; her best work was with him. I think I tuned out on Madonna after "I'm Breathless" and "Vogue." Almost every song on "Erotica" had the same "Vogue" beat that had been recycled for the "Like a Prayer" and "Express Yourself" remixes. And I haven't been impressed by much since, especially not her new stuff.

In the 90s, I saw this movie when I was 19 years old. His music pierced my spirit, reached my heart. A part of me felt the nostalgia for the good times that listening to this soundtrack inspires. Living good moments, I heard a voice that told me "Everything happens", and knowing that youth would pass, I thanked God for each day. Today I am not young anymore and this song takes me back to the moments when everything seemed to make sense.

You just know how good a film will be when the music sets the tone like this amazing piece by Patrick Leonard, absolutely covers all of the emotional spectrum from start to finish. I suppose Madonna's Live to Tell reminds me of my 80's growing up and when I got my first car, it was a great tune to listen to whilst driving at night with clear sky and bright stars. I just can't believe how long it has taken me to come across this film despite me being a self described 'film buff'! It was worth the wait though.

I feel especially close to it because I live approx.20 miles from where it was filmed( most of it anyways) in Franklin,TN.I have heard so many people bash this movie...but they only view it as another late night rerun. They don't even try to interpret it,understand it or get the meaning! I have been lucky enough to actually meet Crispin Glover (Lucas) on TWO occasions! That was a real treat! I actually mentioned "At Close Range" to him and he studied for a moment,as if searching his memory, and looked up and smiled and replied "Yeah,we filmed that near here".A treasure...And this song? PERFECT....for this movie. As the lyrics imply it "Tells The Tale"......

With the helicopter landing outside the courthouse, all the armed guards/police officers on the roofs surrounding it & Chris Walken/Sean Penn being led inside the courthouse. The sad, dark, mysterious music, empty stares & cool winds of the fall. What A MISERY! What A GEM! THE BEST 1980's movie I have ever seen! Along with "First Blood" (1982).

+Scott Leoski The character Robert played in Taxi Driver had redeeming qualities even though he had issues, he just wanted to be productive and find his place in the world who drifted into madness as opposed to this guy who was a con man, thief, and murderer. He was just bad to the bone.

Yea, but you saw his descent into it. Deniro as an actor wanted to bear witness to that without judging Bickle or his outcome so he could play it as if unexpected. DeNiro never tries to be smarter than his characters. He could have played the dad. It was the money and script revisions that was it.

Good point. Marty Scorsese always said that about Deniro--he looks for redemption in what others deem the worst people--those who fail to create natural relationships with their fellow man and are thereby dismissed.

One of Patrick Ls best! Madonnas vocals so powerful. This score is so serene yet sad. The movie, which is based on a true story, tells the sad tale of a sociopathic father and a lost son yearning for the love & acceptance of an absent, indifferent father. Sean Penn's portrayal was excellent. Thank you for uploading this. Sound quality is perfect 👌

When I was in high school, I thought (as many have) I was hot because I had the hot HS band. I worked after school in a clothing store, and one day this "young kid" came in, introduced himself as Pat Leonard and wanted to know if he could try out for the band. Being the magnanimous person I was, I told the "kid" that he could and I agreed to go to his house to hear him play. When I arrived, he asked me what I wanted him to do. Just "Do your thing" (how hip was THAT? Well, Pat began with some Mozart, went right into boogie woogie followed up by every genre of music one could imagine. I realized that he was WAY, WAY above my pay scale. I walked away saying to myself... This "kid" is a wizard. He was a wizard then at all of MAYBE fifteen.
