I am a 48 yr old American male. Paddington 2 is the exact type of movie I wish would flood this country. A real hero with real impact upon the people around him. And a villain that is completely human and still just plain wrong.

Amen
One of my favourite things about these movies, is that the original books were pretty nakedly about the evacuation of British children from major cities during WWII. Often with little more than a name tag and a suitcase, 3.5 million people, mostly children, were evacuated. They were usually separated from their parents and taken in by complete strangers. By taking this event, of which most Britons are justifiably proud, and tying it to the plight of foreign children, who need a home and safe harbour, Paddington makes this deft and persuasive political point. My own grandfather may not have survived the war had he not been taken in and kept safe from Nazi aerial bombing during the blitz, and to see rich countries turn away children who face the same threat, it's abhorrent.

Well said, Alex: completely agree. We are proud of the evacuation efforts conducted in WW2, and there are millions of us who are horrified by the continued rise of anti-immigrant hysteria here in Britain in the 21st century.

There is so much clever stuff in this! My favourite is how you switch to tea (a tea totaller) after an intervention, which is a British thing, and you review a British film. And in the end, it's your dad who starts drinking

Patrick, Parents, AND Paddington? I clicked this video very quickly. Great work.
Your Mom is so adorable. She and your Dad act so clueless most of the time but the way her face lights up when you mention Paddington is priceless! I actually ended up buying the movies because of your review.
This entire video is just so precious to me, even as someone who has never seen the Paddington movies. I recently spent a semester in England and everything about this just brought back good happy memories of my time there, so thank you for making this. I think now I’ll have to go find these movies in America. Also, please make sure your mom knows she is an absolute delight and an all around gem

God bless Irish Mammies- always ready with a cuppa tea.
This series is a delight. Thank you and your parents for being such lovely people.
Your parents absolutely killed it in this one, and the punchline might be the most clever joke I've ever seen in your videos. I'm loving this new format. Keep up the great work.
Patrick your mom is great actress, i think your parents is getting better at this.
As a Brit, I love these movies. What, I’m partial to movies of my nationality. I also love the magical feel of this movie. It presents London as this delightfully offbeat place, just filled to the brim with all these quirky characters played by great British actors and/or comedians. Films like these are... well British. You can see this film... and you’ll think Britain. To that effect, it’s to kids movies what Good Omens is to comedy, which was built off Christianity, but it’s really just religiously English.
When ever people ask me what my favorite movie of 2017 is, they always expect me to say Star wars or a Marvel film. But the answers is in fact Paddington 2, most the time they think i'm joking because i'm such a film buff going to see every new release, but that's the honest answer. Such an amazing movie.

This is the best episode yet, and your parents' performances are fantastic! I laughed so hard at the "Ride or Die" line.
My son, a movie buff, ran the kitchen at Skinners Guildhall where some of the scenes were shot and so bumped in to Jim Broadbent and others in the cast. He was soooo star struck.
I guess you could call your mother Lady MarmaWAIT NO I DIDN'T THINK THIS THROUGH DEFINITELY DO NOT CALL HER THAT
I am British, allow me to explain the coconut thing: In British funfairs we have these things called a Coconut Shy - You get a couple balls and you throw them at coconuts to try and knock them down, for the chance of winning a goldfish or something. We do not throw coconuts around, don't be daft.
@duffman18
5 жыл бұрын
Funnily enough I once won a huge bear the size of Paddington bear, at a coconut shy, when I was a kid. It was because I managed to crack the coconut, which was harder than just knocking it off, and you got a better prize if you did that. I've no idea where that bear has gone, but it was 20+ years ago now.
Great dynamics between characters

This video is really a delight. It should have at least one million views already! Big cheers to your parents, Patrick!
I've never seen these movies before. I wrote them off for the exact reasons you described at the beginning of your video. I will now add them to my list of films to watch. Thanks Patrick!
Everything about this is YES!!! So many smiles... and for the first time I don’t feel like the Paddington movies are my guilty pleasure!!! Thank you so much for this!!! And your parents are just wonderful!! I wish you all the best!
Love this series, and I'm glad you guys enjoy making it!
Grew up with the Paddington cartoon show and have the fondest of memories of Paddington. One of my favourite memories of visiting the UK was when I stumbled upon Paddington Station and the Paddington statue. Was always afraid of watching the movie, but videos like this talked me into it and I'm so glad the essence of Paddington was preserved
This series is absolutely amazing. Naturally I'm talking about your on going discussions about movies with your parents. But that said I will almost certainly be watching the Paddington movies this weekend.
The drinking and your parents are by far my favourite parts of this series. Your folks are hilarious!
Gosh, your mom is so sweet and yes these movies are remarkable
dude ive been a huge fan of this series from the start but im so grateful to you for bringing these movies to me. i probably never would have watched them and theyre so much fun. you the man.
These are easily my favorite videos you make. Keep em comin.
everything about this is a blessing to watch thanku for making this series!!!!
This is by far the most layered, smart, funny, true and well crafted video I've seen in weeks!
The pop-up-book animations are a nod to the animated tv series of Paddington that aired on British tv from 1976-1980, narrated by Michael Hordern. It had a really distinctive style, and is much-loved.
Please keep making these, as long as you continue to make “we heart hartnet”
I would’ve never watched these films without you releasing this video. I just finished the first, and I’m so happy I did. Thank you!
Just wanted to say thank you for the video! My husband and I just watched the first one over the weekend because of this video and we LOVED IT. Going to try to watch the second one this weekend!!
Best video you've done yet! Super heartwarming video.
YES! i'm a HUGE paddington fan and i'm excited to see you talk about this.
I truly admire the framing and details you put into your analysis videos. These are great little films.
Not to diminish your Dad's contribution... but your Mum is insanely charismatic. Find her an agent, pronto!
This is my favorite of your framing devices. Your parents are a treat, and such good sports.
I just found your channel and been binge watching your videos. I had almost forgot about Paddington! We had the first story as a book. When I found out about the movie, I just had to watch it. Now I have to see the second one. I really love these stories that teach about being kind and caring.
Not only did the Paddington movies bring tears to my eyes, but this video about the Paddington movies brought tears to my eyes as well. Damn well done, thank you!
This series deserves so much more views and recognition. It’s so good!
I really love this format. Way more interesting (and cinematic) than the usual movie analysis mvs.
You've put your finger on why I like the Paddington movies so much (well, that and the fact that I've loved the character since they ran the shorts on Nickelodeon's Pinwheel)...unlike so many other kids'/family movies, they don't try to be self-consciously KEWL. (The Peanuts movie is the same, despite a pop song or two being in there.)
Love his parents. The reviews make me want to re watch the movies. It's great work. Keep up the good work.
I’d love you to take a look at the Mission Impossible movies in this format. I’ve been waiting for someone to articulate what’s really all that great about those movies and why they’ve had the longevity they have. I never got it, myself.

best video youve released hands down, and that's saying smth considering i enjoy all ur videos!!! 🐻🐻🍊🍊
Great video! Love the acting by your mom. Very Paddington styled .. Patrick has anyone told you, you look just like Napoleon Dynamite brother 😂😂
These movies are literally the quintessential family experiences and the best part is anyone can enjoy them. The comedy, style, setting, tone and acting is all exaggerated but still kept small so you can feel immersed in this world. All of the characters have a brilliant dynamic that you RARELY see in kids films or really anything nowadays so it's really BRILLIANT that something like Paddington exists for children and adults. Also, the greatest scene in the second movie has to be Paddington and Knuckles meeting for the first time and their relationship. If you haven't seen it already, what are you doing with your life???
I haven't seen the Paddington films, but fondly remember the 1970s TV series. Those bits with the pop-up book look like a nod to the TV show, in that Paddington himself was an animated furry model bear, but all the human characters were animated cardboard cut-outs that looked like they had come from a pop-up book, and the backgrounds were done in similar style.
This is officially my favorite thing on KZread now. I love his lists
Lol I love the structure of these, good work! :)
This is fantastic. Your parents are pretty darn fun, I love em.
As I watch more and more of these I am increasingly astounded by how game his parents are. Absolutely love it.

I never imagined I´d love a movie about Paddington so much, and your video does a great show showing that.
Holy F**k. If there’s an equivalent of a Roger Ebert doing a Dark City dvd, you’re the multimedia version of a dissection & comparison & passion and always wanting to do more. You, sir, are one of the most respected opinions on the Internets. And you’re relevant & your parents are a national treasure.
Patrick's Mom has good taste in Doctors. (I'm late to this party, but I only recently got around to binging some Paddingtons)
