It wasn't about which person is better it's about the draw so even if those rap fans don't stay which of course they all won't so yes you have to build a new audience but it wouldn't be as if me or you was starting from scratch tryna scrap up 100 subs.     Ian and Joe are totally missing the fact there’s a million failed Timmy Green podcasts - the long tail. The hit rate as a celebrity with a ready made audience is going to be much higher. You can’t point to the handful of Timmy’s who make it as equitable to Joes start.

    My mom came in and heard me watching this pod not knowing what it is at all and when I told her “it’s joe budden’s podcast” that immediately peaked her interest. She didn’t even recognize his face, she just remembered his name. Whether this pod was good, bad, popular, or unpopular, that type of interaction doesn’t change. That right there just proves Joe’s “starting point” take to be completely wrong. That name recognition, no matter how long it takes, changes the trajectory of your content.

Before (and during) his rap career he always had moments of controversy and even hosted a radio show on Hot 97.     Ian gave out some game and it went over a lot of people’s heads. Especially when he talked about equity and allowing corporations to determine your value. They’ve got us undercutting each other chasing the bag and we’re leveraging our power to do it. There’s power in unity and collective bargaining or at least having a uniform minimum standard.
