When majoring in film, is it possible to connect with people within the industry and work as a Production assistant and work your way up from there and hopefully become an actress or is that not how it works?

That is a definite way of gaining levels on the industry ladder for sure. However, I’m not exactly sure how it works for actors and actresses 🤷 probably for actors it’s through auditions and word of mouth

If I just wanted to go for film and creative writing at this school or any other school that I go to, do I have to take the standard (Math, English, Science, History, ect.) classes?

Late response, but perhaps someone else will see it who needs it. Yes. Math, English etc is part of general education and is required from the first 2 years of undergrad. Even after getting to upper division, you'll have to take upper division GE classes, which could be history, science, english, etc. At CSUN, I had to take upper level GE classes that ended up being more difficult than the classes for my film major! I graduated in 2016 with an emphasis in cinematography. It was by no means a perfect experience but it was a valuable one and I do recommend the program to anyone who is interested.

​@@manggaedduk I run a self-publishing business and occasionally do freelance videography. I was already working professionally as an author while in school so didn't actively pursue a film career after graduating. Others in my class now work freelance as grip and electric mostly, as far as I know.

@@okitasan are any of them directors or producers? Or work with any big name companies?

@@manggaedduk I have only kept up with a small portion of my class so it's a difficult question to answer. I'm sure some of them are directing/producing their own indie stuff now.
