One of the funniest synergy in WoTR for me is Mad Dog/Brownfur Transmuter I mean, c'mon. Transforming a mad hulking brute into a dragon is funny all on it's own. But transforming a mad hulking brute AND his pet bear into a dragon is a whole new level

I gotta point out few things about the Mad Dog you missed. Mad Dog is one of the best Martial classes and here's why Pack tactics give +4 to flank and stacks with outflank teamwork feat and since you always considered flanking enemies while mounted, you are always having passive +6 to hit, which is HUGE 2nd: Mounted Combat feat allows you to use your mobility check vs. enemy attack roll to negate damage and since enemies always target your mount and if you picked something like the boar, which has the highest AC of all mounts, most enemies can only hit boar on nat 20 and when they roll nat 20, you can negate that with mobility skill check, so get a skill focus on that. 3rd: the lvl 5 trip ability not only give you trip, but also +2 on trip attempts and additional +2 for each leg you have above 2, on boar thats 4 legs, thus +6 bonus on trips and then combine that with your passive +6 flanking bonus and your boar has passive +12 on trip attempts. Conclusion. Mad Dog as just lvl 5 dip, gives you a mounted melee class who never misses, never gets hit and trips every enemy on melee. though boar only becomes moubtable at lvl 7, so you could take something like; Mad Dog 5 Cavalier 2

The other big advantage of the free trip feat for pets is that they no longer need to take the Bully archetype. For leopards the Daredevil archetype provides immunity to being flanked which means they won’t lose their dex bonus to AC all the time.

Yeah, it doesn't take too long to hit lvl 5. Taking bully is pointless since the subclass just gives you trip if you wait a few levels. Much wiser to invest in another archetype.

9:10 I have to disagree. It can be useful to have pets with the Trip feat even if they cannot auto-trip. Reasons: 1) Full attack is not always an option. There are times you have to move to another enemy, but they are more than 5ft step away, and the charge/pounce option is not always available for various reasons. A trip will line them up to be surrounded and attacked as well as depriving them from their own full attack option. In my arrogant opinion this is preferable to a single melee attack. 2) Tandem Trip teamwork feat. Having more than one pet or character with T.T. means that if another pet does have auto trip, they get two rolls at it, taking the higher one. This can greatly increase the odds of a successful trip, and follow-up attacks as they lie prone.

Barbarian is really good since you can get Limitless Rage and something to deal with fatigue, but really bad because Bloodrager Primalist is infinitely better. Still, solid class. Most archetypes trade important things for mediocre things, so unless you go Instinctual Warrior or Mad Dog - stick to the base. I guess Invulnerable Rager is okay, but I personally don't like to rely on DR. Instinctual Warrior is by far the best of the bunch, but primarily because it's great for dips.

  • @notalefty999

Barbarian has serious drawbacks of not stacking with Skald (which is basically a far superior option, -5AB and 1 APR in exchange for bonus feats, very useful spellcasting, extending rage powers to the entire party, no fatigue after ending rage, a great capstone ability and some other songs which are situationally useful), nor stacking properly with demon. Its damage is also somewhat worse than other full martial classes like fighter, ranger, slayer and paladin, who can all get substantially larger bonuses to damage. Primalist is basically a barbarian who takes two rage powers every 4 levels (or bloodline powers, but honestly, the rage powers are almost certainly better) rather than 1 power every 2 levels, and they also cannot take extra rage power as a feat. In exchange for what is a pretty minor tradeoff, they get bloodline features (the great majority of which you will likely reject over rage powers) and spellcasting, but to be honest, whilst this is an improvement, its really not much of an improvement. Also, the spellcasting requires 14 charisma for max level spells or giving up your helmet slot for a headband (not ideal), something a barbarian doesnt have to do. Being able to have 1 more rage power half the time, and more importantly, take extra rage powers as a feat, can certainly be useful, and your level 1 bloodline power is usually nothing special. As for the spellcasting, honestly, there is basically only shield and mirror image as these are the only two useful personal buffs, and also defensive buffs only. Its unlikely you are tanking with a bloodrager. Everything else is pointless. With a terrible caster DC and very slow spell progression, there is no way it will ever make sense to use offensive spells over just attacking. Its not like you have a feature like spell combat or spell critical which allows you to do both. So its basically a choice between the option of taking extra rage powers as feats and having 1 more rage power 1/2 the time and not having to invest anything in charisma, vs mirror image, shield and a level 1 bloodline power. I would say the latter is slightly better, but only slightly. If Bloodragers had spellcasting anything like as useful as paladin or ranger, it would be a different matter. And no, Instinctual Warrior is not the best of the bunch by far. The best would be mad dog. Yes, you pay a heavy feat tax (you lose 5 rage powers) for your animal companion, but a full animal companion is easily worth it. Mounting your companion is the largest defensive boost available to any barbarian and makes the loss of DR and uncanny dodge basically irrelevant. You only really want 7 rage powers anyway (beast totem line, lethal stance line and animal fury), so its 2 feats for a full animal companion, with the additional +2 flanking bonus, which when mounted is always active, the ability for the animal companion to take tandem trip without taking bully archetype, and a free AoO whenever the animal companion trips (this is in addition to the AoO when they stand up). As for instinctual warrior, as a dip, this just seems strictly inferior to monk. You need to invest 2 levels rather than 1, and wont get crane style as a bonus feat, which otherwise requires 2 prerequisite feats. Also, there is no charisma based variant, which rules out 2 level paladin dips for saves, or stacking other charisma based AC effects like incorporeal or nature's whispers. You also dont get flurry of blows for qualifying weapons, a few of which are pretty good.

I know that you probably already planned out some of these videos, but I think it would be interesting if you mention about the “progression” of class features: big examples are dip stables that are really good in the early game or good for a splash in a few levels, or 9th level spell caster that you’d probably want to keep pure. For example, Sword Saint is one of the strongest pure class but its power is significantly delayed compared to base magus with 1 less spell slot per level+4 level delay on dimensional strike.

I want to point out an error, it's a pretty minor one, but Pack Rager doesn't share their feats "in short bursts" they'll be raging all the time every combat starting presumably at Mythic Rank 1. It's not like Tactician where you're doling it out a minute at a time, however long the combat lasts, those feats last. Now for Shake it Off it's a little worse since you don't have it walking around. But for Outflank it's on right away and it stays on the whole combat, because you're not going to drop out of rage during a combat, particularly once you don't have limited number of rounds. Edit: I think since you mentioned "there are several classes with the same teamwork mechanics" you assumed that it works like the Cavalier's feature, it doesn't. It works the entire time you're raging, which you will be doing every combat every turn, probably not enough to push it up a bunch, but enough to make it better than you were suggesting.

I have to disagree on the damage part I have hit for well into the 200s with a barbarian on a single hit. Even being more realistic about damage rolls you can still get into the 60s per hit which can be a good 240-300 damage per round. But really you want to be the most meta ever you can make it so you melee for over 1,000 on a 15+ crit roll. Not really my thing as min maxing and gamming the system isn't something I enjoy doing, but barbarian can hit like a truck. Plus you don't need to nap as much. I think it's completely outshined by Bloodrager though. Still think your right on the ratings but I have out dps magic users with them. Also why you gotta do Trevor like that, man? I totally disagree with the Instinctual Warrior, blindfight isn't really a thing, many common buff/debuff can do exactly the same. And a Scald or a Vivisectionnist can deal way more damage and bring a lot more utility to the table and do exactly the same as blindfighting with his buff (and much more). I'm a bit shocked by it being S+ honestly, but always nice to look at your vid. But i'm wondering where the Scald or the Demon Hunter is going to be if Instinctual Warrior is already S+.

There are no buffs or debuffs that mimic blindfight. True Seeing does not cover all forms of concealment and neither does Echolocation. Glitterdust can sometimes be used to counter concealment and even that can be a hassle. Blindfight is the cleanest way to deal with the number one defense mechanism enemies use in this game. @@SlanderedGaming Yes but the kind of concealment that is countered only by Blindfighting is pretty rare and most of the time, Echolocation or Truesight (or Glitterdust) will do the same or at least reduce the concealment to an acceptable level. I don't see how the rare case where Blindfighting add an interest is better than a +5atk/+5dmg to whoie party (Scald, Demon Hunter + rage power) or a whole spell list with haste, mutagen and 10D6 Sneak attack. I get that it's a decent class, but I don't see it going over B rank tbh. Off to see your bard video !

What? You praise mad dog way more than instinctual warrior yet rate the later way higher? I dont really see how both classes arent ranked the same. Also how is pack rager rated so much worse than base barb? With the mythic rage ability you have infinite rage at all times, meaning you can permanently share three teamwork feats that your allies wont have to pick (also, i might be wrong, but is this the only full BaB class that can share teamwork feats?). Plus 5 Rage powers is exactly enough for 3 totems + a Stance and its upgrade. And since you dont need to pick outflank you can even use that "extra" feat slot for an additional rage power. I´m not saying that its an upgrade to base barb but ranking it only one rank above "completely unusable" seems crazy to me.

  • @SlanderedGaming

I don't think I praised Mad Dog more. I did talk a lot about it's mechanics because I felt some people needed more of an explanation on why I think it's a good class. But I actually talked about IW for a longer amount of time. Pack Rager's low rating is my personal biases against Tactician classes. I absolutely cannot stand them. PR is probably the best out of all of them since you can keep rage on indefinitely but I don't care I don't like those classes and will be ranking all of them D's most likely.

Imho you rank barbarians a little too low in general. Many players just misunderstand what they are about and what they can do better than most, that being the role of a skirmisher. Few characters can rush to the backline and make swift work of archers and mages as a barbarian does and survive long enough for the rest of your party to take care of the rest. Many players are too concert with "Muh damage" that they do not value anything else much even though there are many ways to victory. Making an enemies backline crumble swiftly is one such way.
