When you think about it, it's so insane to think that Miyazaki, Kojima, and Taro are all Japanese devs who made some of the most unique single player experiences in gaming history. Japan really does set the standards of video game development most Western triple a studios have long forgotten. As much as I miss the sc1 & 2 blizzard days, its amazing to see Japanese devs just go about it with their insane creations nowadays. Metal Gear Solid, Drakengard, Nier, Death Stranding, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, AC...no one can criticize these games for their uniquity. Nier is such a special experience I personally think all singleplayer enthusiasts must go through once in their life. Even though I can't play drakengard 1 and 3, I still watch full movies of them as the nonsensical story is so well knit into an emotional overdrive. I think Drakengard 1 is kinda the prototype of Yoko Taro's gloomy creativity, 3 is the clown child that somehow makes everyone cry, Nier replicant is the tear jerking bastard, and Automata is the one that brings deep philosophical questions on human nature and existence to a casual family gathering. I love each one so dearly but personally have to say Replicant did the narrative best, whilst Automata was the perfect blend of combat AND narrative. Loved doing combat in Automata, especially the dlc arena. Also one thing Automata does better is how refined and unique each questline is. Replicant did have one too many fetch quests (though most quests were greatly enjoyable), whilst Automata really fleshed out all side quests to be unique little side stories of their own. Personal favorite is the Engels quest. Such a massive mass of steel and tech slowly getting to understand what it's like to be human from two androids who don't know much about it either. Legit cried when the engels decided to shut itself down to give 2b and 9s its data.

Jrpgs have brought so much joy and creativity to my life.

This picture. Kainé, a woman tortured by how others saw her body: as an intersex freak of nature, a body possessed by the inhuman and berserk shades, a body clothed crudely and without consideration of societal norms. But here, she's clearly enjoying herself and feeling comfortable in her own skin, posing sensually and gazing at her reflection in the mirror, allowing herself to be in a vulnerable and trusting position to Nier, the one person since her grandmother who didn't see her as a freak, and instead saw her for who she is. The person whose sword Kainé decided to dedicate her life to becoming. The NieR series is just really good, you know?

BnS was such an amazing world. Always loved the OST on each zone/fights and Sapphire Basin was my personal fave when I want to relax while Silverfrost Mountains and Kimset Duo for vibing.

fallen god from drakengard 3 will always remind me that I will never get to experience playing that game for the first time ever again. I will always chase for that same experience, but nothing has come close. I admire Taro's story writing in work, he enjoys doing what he does and that is what all storytelling should really about.

This playlist just introduced me to such heavenly music that has blessed my ears my god

This has become my new favourite playlist. Thank you so much for this compilation. I haven't played all the games from where these songs are from, but it kinda feels like i did. This songs are nostalgic as if they were part of my teenage years. Must be the effect that JRPG music has on me and the fact that I love DOD/Nier since Gestalt came out.

If you were asked the following question, what would your answer be? "What title (/series) is essential to the entire medium of video games?" For me, there's a very easy answer to that. Nier. It's easy to say "video games are art", but there definitely isn't much that makes full use of its medium (as all good art does) the way that Nier does. Nier doesn't hold itself to arbitrary genre standards and staples, the Nier games are uniquely flexible. The camera angle changes, the gameplay also changes to reflect that. The game changes every time you play it to "the end", revealing new context and occasionally, entirely new scenarios in each run. The game even has entire sections that are only text on the screen. None of it feels wrong. It's a well crafted game with an enthralling narrative where every scenario is painted with a different shade of gray, everyone in Nier is the hero of their own story but some stories are indifferent to how other stories "should" play out. I can literally never stop thinking about it, my mind always drifts back to it. Through this reflection, I find new things to love about it almost every day. It's perfect.
