You know something I find funny about Path of Titans? The different variations of each creature are called Sub-Species, but they're not Sub-Species. They're species. Devs have stated sounds and animations are placeholders. So its entirely possible as time goes on and they get the main mechanics out and get the game into a more "finished" state things such as sounds and animations will change. I personally don't want them to focus on making them sound immaculate with all unique sounds I'd much rather have more abilities, better quests, game modes, maps, core mechanics, or new playables I can play instead of waiting 2 years for even a scrap of a new playable. Am I happy with all current sounds? No, a lot are reused over and over. I will say I love alberta 2 call, one of the best sounding 2 calls to me meanwhile I hate how rex is so damn loud in every aspect of its being. I'd also love if they changed sarcos sleeping to be its resting that has always bugged me.

While some of the older ones weren't great either, especially when it came to their heads (Struthiomimus doesn't even have an actual beak-it's just skin with wrinkles and skin patterns to LOOK like a beak, which is very cursed) the last few models have been...awful. Rex was pretty inoffensive, but as you said has no personality or characteristics to make it stand out. Pycnemosaurus was a MASSIVE disappointment, I was expecting this big burly juggernaut that could move surprisingly quick but have a poor turn radius to compensate, and instead we just got a worse carno with a broken hitbox. Pachy is literally just a bipedal Megalania in cosplay, it looks super ugly. And Kaiwheka's is possibly the worse, while we can only go off of promotional material right now but its SUPER flimsy with a ridiculously long tail, it looks like a snake got stuck in a turtle's body and is desperately trying to escape rather than a plesiosaur with a unique skull shape. The only recent model that's been good is Thalass- which we also can only base it off of promotional material, and im sure you could dedicate a whole video on how concept wise the execution of coastal-dwelling, skim-feeding Thalassodromeus is bad.

Thalassodromeus is a bit of a mystery in its playstyle, since the devs didn't say if it will hunt fish all the time, and the pics likely don't indicate it being only designed to hunt fish, I know that sounds odd but let me explain. The art and picture do show it going for fish yes but realize it's shown with kaiwhekea, they might have done this to show off the two sorta interacting with one another rather than have a split where we see thalassodromeus on land and kaiwhekea in the water, sorta like how "pycno" and pachy are interacting, so it's highly possible thalassodromeus will still hunt land animals but still capable of eating fish. But kaiwhekea is a bit of a different story, I do admit it's design is kinda odd, and the fact it's going after fish is sad since it hoped they make it more of a filter feeder like it was but NOPE, they just slapped fish on its diet and called it a day, I do hope they add filter feeding as a mechanic when more aquatics are added and give kaiwhekea it aswell but either way still sad it eats fish and it's design isn't the lovable fat, short necked kai we wanted

@@Superchicken_36When you look at modern day examples like Gharials vs Crocodiles and Bottlenose Dolphins vs False Killer Whales you can see a similar comparison with Ichthyosaurs vs Mosasaurs. Gharials have much thinner jaws compared to Crocodiles which allows them to quickly and efficiently catch smaller fish that could be swallowed whole. While Crocodiles have much wider jaws allowing them to catch much larger prey that can’t be swallowed whole. It’s the same with Bottlenose Dolphins and False Killer Whales. Bottlenose dolphins have much thinner jaws to catch smaller fish that can be swallowed whole, while False Killer Whales have much wider jaws to catch larger prey that can’t be swallowed whole. This also applies to Ichthyosaurs and Mosasaurs, Ichthyosaurs have much thinner jaws for catching small fish that can be swallowed whole while Mosasaurs had much larger jaws to catch larger prey that can’t be swallowed whole. And since we know they probably went after larger prey that couldn’t have been swallowed whole it’s reasonable to assume that they could have had venom, although idk much about Mosasaurs I just know that in general the thinner jaws and wider jaws thing applies to this situation.

That idea had stuck with me ever since. It made sense as when I looked it up, Troodontids were considered to very likely have an omnivorous diet, one of the reasons being the shape of their teeth. I was even more disappointed that when abilities were added, the ability to eat fruits as a carnivore did not go the Laten but the Deinonychus. If you want to use the post as a source in a future video about PoT, you can easily find it by just typing: "omnivore r/pathoftitans". P.S. Can you please add the heart again to my previous comment? I really think it's entitled of people to overreact this severely and act like this game is ruined because a few of the models aren't perfect. The Pachy's skull is nearly 1:1 with the ingame model, the cheekbone is the only inconsistency with our current specimens, but that's only if the dinosaur is shrink wrapped. The Pycno, which you could argue is a glorified carnotaurus, actually may have had horns like a carnotaurus. The only specimen we have of a Pycno does not include a skull, only some teeth, a pelvic bone, and leg bones. Call it a glorified carno, but don't call it scientifically inaccurate. The problem with design criticism of paleontology is that nearly everything we know about dinosaurs are educated estimations. We can only analyze fossils and compare them to what we know today. Like all sciences, paleontology and what we know about dinosaurs changes on the daily. For instance, based on the body structure of spinosaurus, it may have been a terrible swimmer, meaning it couldn't have been sub-aquatic. This argument has been going on since its discovery, paper after paper, study after study. We almost cannot confidently say something without it being rebutted by new evidence or research. The thalassodromeus being a fish-eater/juvie killer is not something I hate. While sure, it isn't perfectly in line with modern science, but it's a very interesting idea. The point of it is gameplay. Its niche shouldn't be something that a bigger creature does better. The hatze will 100% dominate the skies and the land, a thalass would be outclassed. The thalass is supposed to be able to fish and kill small creatures. The rhamp is supposed to primarily fish. This makes the thalass the middle ground for fliers. Making it unique is good game design, at the end of the day, this game is marketed as a dinosaur-MMO-survival game, not a gritty, paleo-perfect simulation of what we know. The tyrannosaurus is what I agree on. It looks fine, but uninspired and dull. If they made it a night-time hunter with bigger owlish eyes, I'd be stoked. If they gave it feathers, that would be okay. But instead, they take the slim body of the Jurassic Park trex and stick on a close model to Sue's statue head. I think it's dull, and could use work. The plesiosaur is ugly and it probably didn't have lips, and honestly I'm not a big fan. However, what I think should be considered is that this game is in beta. The devs are remodelling things, touching up their models and animations, and will likely adjust these new dinosaurs. We saw allosaurus on release, which looked like some cute uwu version of the dino. The devs remodelled it and made it more accurate. I respect these devs a lot because they put out more work and care into their game than anyone else in the market. They listen to the community and interact with us. We should be grateful instead of shitting on every detail that is imperfect. It's one thing to criticize and speak about what improvements can be made in a professional manner. It's another thing to stir up hate and bash the devs. Respectfully, Villain

I doubt thala would be invalidated by hatz as it could still be a juvenile/low tier abducting hell bat, but it still wouldn't need to eat fish. And while yes we don’t have the head of pycno to say otherwise! But from what we do know the evidence seem to be pointing the other way! Forget to mention pachy multiple studies show that stygimoloch is a pachy so it’s not so unlikely that he hadd a face like this . No one's even entirely sure it is a unique dinosaur until a complete skeleton is found. It wouldnt be the first time something was claimed as a unique dinosaur only to be a larger version of another.... until complete remains exist no one knows. Also no one knows what the largest abelisaur is. Carnotaurus and the other abelisaurs that have pretty complete skeletons are only singular examples of the species. Since the discovery of Carnotaurus in the 80s only the one remain has been found. When talking about size you need a pool and not singular examples. I agree with everything what you just said, if they will make a Quetz and name it Hatzeg, i am going to to be very sad about that, because Hatzeg is a dino of my country and if they butcher it, i will be deeply disappointed. And you are right, there was a time when they cared more about how the models look, now it slowly starts to feel like you play creatures what are either look way different or they get insulted, by being named different, even do, does dinos are very few it is still a big concern and i am with you on the Pycno thing, because one thing what i heard from other people why pycno looks like this, is because we have very few bones, but then again metri and Barsboldia also have very few bones and yet they made them look unique and not a copy of another one. I just hope the last dinos what need to be released are not going to look worst or another think what i hope maybe, maybe, maybe at some point they will remake some of the models and give them the proper love what that dino deserves.

I began to notice the poor design choices around the time pycno and pachy came out. In the artistic and in game sense, pycno is awful. Literally a unfinished, unbalanced carno clone from a group of theropods known for having a variety of head displays. Pachy looks bizarre, but at least has options for a kit or playstyle (shame that there isn’t a omnivore diet option). As excited as I was about these new aquatic and flying playstyles, to see them be so generic, and to have their designs be just as generic, is disappointing. I’d honestly play any other Dino survival game if I had the PC for it at this point, because trying to look different by using less well known names, and then using the most generic and boring playstyles and designs for what are supposed to be unique animals is such a waste of potential. I haven’t played this game for long, which is why I ignored things like the sarco run and the Rex, but man these recent additions really make me want to not play the game.

Something that gets me is that why don’t they just work on refining the game’s current mechanics and creature roster rather than just adding more creatures? A lot of creatures feel super dull to play, even if they look great or have great stats. If they worked on what they have already instead of working on something new, than the old would be fresh, updated, and refined.

I like this take. Though, the the research is interesting. Speculation, is also contained by studio size and game mechanics. Such as the role our new flyer takes. He is unfinished in terms of abilities, but we know the devs push updates constantly for this type of thing. In the case of the beak of struthi, its textured, but not fully lips. Including this, soft tissue on creatures is hard to fossilize. Lips on filter feaders arent uncommon either. With this, lips on reptiles arent uncommon either. An extrapolation of design, in general, is highly unoffensive to any debate. Making it likely to never hit all the marks either. However, it is speculation in its truest sense. Best example of this, is when we slapped on a rex body to spino when it was first discribed. Only after we found more pieces, did we then slap on a relative of spino, to make a semi-complete image. Its never perfect, but to call something lazy, is less then beneficial. Especially when the games competitors arent doing much better. If though, the image fails your standards. Path of titans has something all other games lack. A beautiful and thriving moding base. Im sure a modder might make those changes. Though it would mostly be speculation, and hard to the outcome.

A lot to unpack here. I agree with a majority of the video POT has gotten "lazy" and I say the in quotations because we have seen things are subject to change ie. Cera remodel and new animations and Iguanodons run but the more and more they put it the more it seems like theyre rushing things with some dinos. The point I dont understand or disagree with you on are as follows. Not quite sure what you were expecting of Pachy as thats probably how it looked considering its skull just looks like that, in regards to the juvi form its iffy because the isle also has the same design going from the flat head with longer head spikes to the dome head and nubbed out spikes. Still enjoy the game overall and do like how filled out the roster is, even if some of the older dinos dont really have a unique gameplay style anymore like Alio which isnt fast, doesnt do bleed, doesnt do great damage, doesnt have the best stam and cant take a hit at all. They need to focus on what they originally had going for them with unique models, animations and sounds as well as being accurate. End rant Love the video Scanova :D

everything and I mean every single minute point youve proved here is everything that I too have said and explained to people. And like you said, it really feels like theyre being insanely lazy with the development of their game, cuz lets face it, they are. Its really kind of "amazing" how they just took a random super fragmentary animal like say, Barsboldia, and turned it into the most generic and boring looking creature ever, like its literally a giant beef cattle. Like ik its cuz someone payed for it to be made that way, but still, wtf happened to thinking outside the box. you know what else im beginning to see when it comes to the models for PoT? its the fact that almost every animal in their roster is "childproofed" where it makes certain dinosaurs look "plush" or too rounded in a way. Like would it make more sense to actually make smth as armored as styraco or even "eotrike" a bit sharper? or maybe add some sort of spiny mane down Iguanodon's neck? again it really feels like theyre just making the most bland and ununique playables out there. poor rex couldve had more pronounced head bosses but nah, its just bigger das.

Sarcosuchus has an issue (less now, much more prominent when it was first added) where they were just more effective on land than in water, since it was faster on land than in water for some reason, making it work better as a terrestrial ambusher. Again, not as much now, but aquatic ambushing can still be problematic since sarco is very loud when swimming underwater. Stegosaurus in particular baffles me for why it's so fast because it turns what should be a defensive creature into a hit-and-run attacker. Doesn't fit it at all. Anodonto has a similar problem cause its bone break is so bad that it kind of has to do that, or just sit in defensive stance all day.

In my personal opinion, I think the Tyrannosaurus is fine, I was lowkey hoping the species would be those published in the paper about the proposed Tyrannosaur species (T. regina and T. imperialis), but I don't think that was mainstream enough for the devs I guess. The balanced/default T. rex is also quite fair and accurate for a design minus the lack of integument on the creature as it grows. I was also expecting and hoping, much like you, that the Pycno would have a bunch of species with different horns, like Majunga for example. Kinda sad to be honest. Maybe modders can deliver on that be tweaking the models and the names though and buff creatures that need a buff. Oh and Thallasso is fine too I think, I see them munching on babies all the time on official. The devs just wanna give them dietary options as they have many other creatures. Good video with lots of great points though, cheers!
