Pateley Bridge: Yorkshire's Hidden Gem
If you are looking for a hidden gem in the Yorkshire Dales then head to Pateley Bridge in Upper Nidderdale on the eastern side of the Yorkshire Dales. This charming town is full of history, and cute shops including the oldest sweet shop in the world and the best pie shop we have ever been in! It really is a hidden gem of the Yorkshire Dales and a great base for looking around the area.
In this video, we will showcase the historic side of the town, take a tour inside the Nidderdale Museum, and venture into the Yorkshire Dales to see the unusual Coldcuts Quarry and Toft Gate Limestone Kiln.
If you are looking for accommodation in the area then try www.maison-parfaite.com/ this Yorkshire family-run business has many wonderful places to stay in Yorkshire including at Pateley Bridge.

Simply wonderful !
I did not think your videos could get any better but you have proved me wrong in the nicest possible way. I thoroughtly enjoyed today's episode which is an absolute delight for all the senses. When I think of the UK I think of these idyllic villages and charming scenery. Thank goodness for the love of the preservation of the past. And - thank goodness for not seeing grafitti, weeds and rubbish. I love how the British people take so much pride in their townships and the environment. A big thank you! xx

Thank you so much, we really had not heard of it. So grateful such a super place to visit. 😊
I was evacuated to Pateley in 1943 and left in 1946. It was a lovely place then and still is. I recall attending both the school on the hill and St Cuthbert’s church at the top of the hill. The towns museum is well worth visiting and has a host of memorabilia. The local walks are a must such as the Two Stoops and nearby Brimham Rocks. I have been back to Pateley many times and it still retains its old world charm. I live just an hours drive from that lovely place.

That pie shop has really tasty pies. I’ve tried them several times. It’s a lovely town. One thing though. Don’t take the wrong way out. We did it twice and ended up driving a long way on a steep road only to come to a dead end and had to turn around and drive back down.
Yeayy...We're back to darling Yorkshire...

Daffodils, cats, stone cottages with gothic roof ornaments, historic plaques, chocolate shops, splendid looking pies, Bronte Country views...what a hidden gem! One should bring an empty rucksack to carry purchases from all those charming shops. It was a joy to see so many buildings and artifacts, so well preserved. You really outdid yourselves this time, with the old photos and quality mentions of the many interesting things to see and do in this place. I'd be quite nervous to ride a bike on those roads! It was a bit of a jolt to see your modern hotel suite amidst so much history, but I'm sure you were glad not to haul coal upstairs to heat your bath water, lol! See you next time! ;)

Haya. Thoroughly enjoyed this 😀Being a sewist I was delighted to see that vintage crank handle Singer sewing machine ( I have collected a few over the years 😂) the clothing, especial the uniforms as I like all things to do with that time in history. Loving the kitchen & all the utensils & like both of you, I also enjoy figuring out some of the more unusual utensils 😀Seeing the blossoms on the trees is always lovely, I am lucky to have trees in the garden that have blossoms on them, always a delight to see them burst each year on year 😀Wow, the candy store sure is quaint & you can imagine all the years of comings & goings there & little children choosing what they might be lucky to have in days gone by. Always fascinates me how a lot of things have survived & are in good condition, especially things that are hundreds or even thousands of years old 😀Wow, look at those stunning views, definitely on my "to do" list. As always thanku so much for all your hard work & for sharing. Ana.
the whole region surrounding Pateley Bridge is wonderful, I never got the time or ability to actually drive out there on my own, I'd like to do that perhaps in the autumn when the weather is nice and mild 🙂

@Nicky L There are about 100 watermills and 1100 windmills left in the Netherlands and they are hundreds of years old and beautiful to see. Various windmills can also be seen in operation in Zaanstad, they are part of a museum (De Zaanse Schans). There is also a windmill museum in a building, where you can also view the history and technology of windmills. There are no watermills there. There have been about 10,000 windmills in the Netherlands and many more watermills than now. Of course you can only build water mills in areas where there are rivers and streams, so there were always fewer of them. Most can be found in the eastern provinces of the Netherlands. There are now also about 3000 wind turbines in the Netherlands that must generate electricity. They disturb the landscape horribly. People also suffer a lot from noise and moving shadows from the blades. Various items have also burned down and broken off, both the blades and the masts. I live in the province of Flevoland where most wind turbines are located and hundreds more are being built there. There is no place where you don't see them in large numbers. Mills have disadvantages, because their power depends on the 3rd power of the wind speed, for example from wind force 7 to 6 means 50% less power, which has to be adjusted with natural gas plants, which costs extra natural gas because the yields are lower. Many water and windmills in the Netherlands can be visited, so you can really see them working.
Thankyou , enjoyable , calming . Take care .

De nada, disfrutamos contando las historias mientras caminamos.
10.00 "Photo"?? - surely "Litho"? 😉 The boys are back and the 1 thing that pings me about their excellent videos is that, as usual, they show what you could have seen but just missed. 😢 Took a train over from York to Harrowgate many years ago then a bus out to Pateley Bridge to go walking in the Nidderdale upstream from the Bridge. Had a great day but now that memory is blighted by the realization of what I missed by not giving the village the once over before returning to York! The smaller country villages anywhere in Europe are always of interest to visitors from "Overseas." 😊

Yes it’s not a photo of course 😂 slip of the tongue. 😂
You have shown off our village nicely, although you did use the second best butchers and pie shop😊

We have had such rubbish weather so far this year. So much rain at least it was dry. The Sunday when we visited Knaresborough (next weeks video) was much more sunny 🌞
