@@laurieann2714 I’ve never tried the palettes, purely because the colour story isn’t for me, but I get the impression one could get shadows just as good from quality Indies for less. I do have some of the lip balms and I love them, BUT I wouldn’t have bought them at full price- they were a set of minis heavily discounted in the sale. They’re always having sales so you can literally put something in your basket and wait for the next one 😆

The palettes from colourpop just feel a lot more refined, because everything is well thought out. The shades have a meaning, the color of the packaging, how coherent they are in the cartoony style. Pat McGrath's going for more luxurious, but just feels like a rushed moodboard I would have done in school, while colourpop is a full on realized professional concept

Agreed! You put it perfectly. Ngl I'm confused about the Pat McGrath R2 palette... like.. his colors are very recognizable and consistent, so why didn't they even bother sticking to his color scheme? Colourpop did a much better job!

And everybody gives Colourpop a hard time for constantly releasing stuff but they clearly put more thought into their collections than a brand that doesn’t come out with as much and is way more expensive.

Some of the collections have more thought and attention to detail than others. Their Rudolph and NBC palettes had me a bit disappointed, especially since they looked so good in the promotional photos. The lighting completely changed the colour stories of them so what you got was nothing like the photos. The Snow White one looks beautiful, and I hope when, not if, when they do Sleeping Beauty, and Brave, they do as much with those as this one.

The ColourPop Mandalorian palette is one of the most used in my stash. I'm obsessed with every shade, especially that duochrome. So pretty!

The Mando palette paired with the Baby Yoda one is such a good combo. My most used palettes last year. ColourPop did a great job on those color stories.

I have the Colourpop Darth Vader palette and I use the taupe shades and dark grey almost every day. Also I use the dark red on my brows often.

I used mine for a month straight, the color story is just amazing. I almost hit pan on "clan of two" shade. I'm waiting for restock to buy a backup

I absolutely love star wars and when I found out Colourpop was coming out with multiple collabs with them I was DETERMINED to buy everything they’d release. But then I saw the Darth Vader palette and I just KNEW that I would never use that palette which broke my heart because he is one of my favorite characters and is so iconic. So that’s when I realized that buying something that I’m never going to use was not going to be the move for me, regardless of how much I loved the theme/packaging 😭

I'm here to say that the Darth Vader pallette was my big surprise. I use the center red so often, and I never ever tried red eye shadow before! I love it. The matte black is great and so is the matte burgundy. And I use the silver super shock pretty often too. It really was my biggest surprise pallette ever.

I had that problem with one of the frozen pallets where I adored the packaging and hated the shades. I’m not sure if I’m proud or ashamed… but I ended up just buying it on sale and trading out all the shades for a colourpop pallet I actually like (blue moon!) then gave my sister the brand new frozen shades in the blue moon packaging and she’s gotten way lots of use out of it and never couldn’t care less about the packaging. I’ve paid more for empty pallets I loved the packaging of and I do in the end use the pallet more because I’m such a sucker for packaging, so I think it was in the end a good purchase for me. I’ve concidered doing that to the Darth vader one because I also am not a fan of the inside but I can’t bring myself to touch it because I’m such a Star Wars stan lol

I honestly see some similarities between things BH was doing right before declaring bankruptcy and things PMG is doing now, and it makes me nervous. Never ending sales. Collabs that don’t seem totally thought through and kinda feel like money grabs. Release after release with so little time in between that it feels a little bit desperate. Idk what’s going on over there, and it feels like too monolithic of a brand to fail, but I’m feeling a little nervous for them.

It's their own fault for assuming people will buy whatever they release, even if it's just repackaged items that weren't selling. Most of their new releases aren't special at all yet super high in price.

It’s her own fault her releases are so boring she repeats herself all the time she doesn’t do anything exciting anymore she honestly expects people that people will buy everything she releases and she thinks she’s safe but that’s not true at all too many makeup artist brands are like that these days I wouldn’t be surprised if all of them go bankrupt

No need to feel nervous PML is just experimenting to gain more traction and sales. PML has actually been VERY successful most recently unlike other brands that have been on a downward spiral since 2020.

@@markusfeindtHave you not seen the 2021 holiday collection ??? The large holiday mothership pallet was nothing like she released previously. It was a totally different color story. Almost rainbow like. Also very high quality and only $90 for 18 shades. She’s gained sooo many new customers because of stepping out of that boring pink gold and bronze box. Me included. I went from owning no PML to owning 6 PML pallets within a few months.

They could have created an entire lip gloss collection that looks like lightsabers! Either a custom print on the handle of the applicator or even a custom mold to make it look like a lightsaber hilt would have been really cool

Thank you for calling Patt McGrath out Angie! One of the main reasons I'd choose a luxury product is due to the aesthetics and durability of the packaging, and if more effort was made my Colourpop in that regard, I'll stick to my affordable eyeshadow forever.

in Europe, Colourpop is not cheap at all, but I like it because it is a cruelty free brand :)

THANK YOU for taking this discussion and actually putting PM against Colourpop, I have all of the later mentioned palettes and I love them, and every video I've seen about the PM collab palettes have made me thank myself for not spending money on that from a merch perspective 😅

Oh my gosh…..I’m here for the Ahsoka t shirt! YES! Editing to add: I bought 2 of the smaller palettes simply for the Star Wars. It was my first time getting anything from PML. The packaging was kind of a letdown but still cute. Just doesn’t feel worth the price. The quality is nice and I will definitely use them, but I don’t feel the need buy more from the brand. I’m honestly just sitting here waiting for the next colourpop Star Wars release!

I'd honestly love to see a comparison vid with Pat's famous astral blitz with some of your indie shadows. I've been following the make up community pretty closely for a little over a year now and most everyone really hypes her products up. I've only ever gotten a quad from her so I don't know what her famous shades are all about aside from the brief moments I've gotten to swatch them in Munich. Can't even remember if they made me go wow must buy anymore

I don’t have a huge indie collection at this point, but IMO I think visually there are indie shadows that could definitely look similar to the PM “special” shades on the eye, but I haven’t personally experienced any other shadows yet that have the texture like those special shades. They are beautiful, so light and glitzy.. it is very difficult to explain. The Motherships are an experience, even the packaging feels high end.. like the friggin mirrors are beveled. With all that being said, I don’t feel the need to collect PM like I do with other brands.. she has so many repeat/similar shades. Her standard shimmers are lovely too but pretty much standard. Now she has decent sales, so that does help a lot but it still is too expensive.. there is no reason to spend even sale price money on those palettes. I totally agree with you I would love to see someone compare/try to dupe her astral/blitz shades with some indie shades.. I don’t think I have any that compare but honestly am about to go look at them right now lol

I just get a cheap dollar store facial spray that is basically glycerin and water to use to spray my shimmers. Although I do on occasion use my setting spray if it's more convenient. The only thing I've noticed is that a glycerin heavy spray seems to make them look shinier and stick better.

I personally think the quality is worth the extra cost but I’ve also purchased most of my PML on sale because I’m a grad student and don’t have that big of a budget lol

Yesssss AHSOKA! I love that you are repping one of the best Star Wars characters ever!

I've never purchased PMG makeup before. She almost got me to buy the Bridgerton palette, but it was so expensive I changed my mind. She got me with this one, I think because my love of Star Wars is > my love of Bridgerton, and also because it felt more reasonably priced. Paying $72 for 2 palettes was somehow easier for me to swallow than paying $68 or whatever it was for the 6 shades in the Bridgerton palette (I did not even consider buying the big SW palette from PMG). All of that to say, I am really enjoying the PMG palettes. I got the Vader and R2D2 palettes, and I actually ended up using them in conjunction with my Colourpop SW palettes, since neither of the PMG palettes had matte shades in them. The coppery red shade in the Sith Seduction palette looked so good on my eyes and made me feel so pretty.

Here's the thing for me: I love the artwork and the shade names and the color stories in the ColourPop collabs but I just do not like their formula and I have tried to love it for years. I can't, I freaking can't. So when I buy from them I have to ask myself is the price worth the packaging and the vibe. Pat McGrath, on the other hand, is the exact opposite. Better formula (I don't think it's worth the price in most cases, tbh) but severely lacking in the effort department for collab collections as a whole. For example, I bought the entire Harry Potter x ColourPop collection because HP is my favorite thing ever and I would say only 25% of that $250+ dollar price tag is stuff I'm actually using or is even "good", for me personally. For Pat McGrath x Star Wars, I was unimpressed with all but one item from the collection. I bought the Sith Seduction palette for $36 or whatever because I could get behind that price tag compared to PM's other stuff, and I think that 5 pan palette is really great. Packaging fiasco aside, each shade had a great name with 4 out of the 5 colors being shades I will actually wear. These are all just my personal opinions, of course ☺️❤️☺️❤️

The colorpop a new hope palette is my favorite! I also love the jelly shadows that were in the collection too!

Missed opportunity for Pat McGrath to substitute that shimmery purple for a shimmery R2D2 blue.

as someone that really enjoys Star Wars as a fan I would rather have the colourpop palettes over the pat mcgrath. There is just a lot more care and appreciation put into the Star Wars collections . Compared to Pat McGrath which makes me think this collection was an afterthought. Love the color story and the names on all of these pallet though. 🥰

I bought one of the pot shadows and I have to say it feels exactly like the ones Tarte put out. I haven’t used Sith Seduction yet, but if it’s anything like the metallics from the two neutral 5 pans she did previously I will love it. The formula on those is great.

The only thing I can say in the defense of the Pat McGrath palettes is that the artwork looks really lux as it always does. The artwork for ColourPop is more cutesy. But definitely was much more expensive looking printed on. The other products are a joke. The glosses and the other stuff are existing shades.

I love my Darth Vader palette, but I love grey eyeshadow. I think the CP palettes are good quality and I got my on sale, so it is a great deal. I haven't seen anything from Pat McGrath that makes me want to spend that much money so it was really nice to see this comparison. Thanks!

I’m not coming for you, I just want to offer my perspective. I think that Pat McGrath should improve her packaging, because there have been several flops for such a high end brand (the face primer, the Bridgerton Collection, the Star Wars quints and stickers on regular packaging). I personally like her formulas, in general. The one thing where I’m IMPRESSED is Pat McGrath’s special sparkly baked shades. I own a lot of makeup, including indie, and the sparkles of her special baked shades, for me, do not compare to anything in my collection (not Oden’s Eye, not Kaleidos, not Clionadh, not JD Glow, not Give Me Glow… you get the idea, lol). The rest of her formulas I can find comparable or somewhat comparable options in other brands, including Colourpop. I just can’t let go of those sparkles 🤩😭 Of course, even if anyone agreed with me on those sparkly baked shades, I would still understand that her eyeshadows are overprized in the sense that paying those prices just for one to two baked sparkly shades in her palettes is very expensive. I still buy them, because to me they’re worth it, but yeah, not the smartest purchasing decision, lol 😂

Colourpop for the very first time made me excited about collectable makeup - Winx club. For the first time I was interested about something before I knew what it was (spoiler! didn’t last). I was looking forward to PMG’s collab and I can’t say how much dissapointed I was. Even though the big palette is my favorite colour story - the fact they put new packaging on it and said “that’s it. Lets put the old one on sale for a half and be done with this cash grab.” Even the small palettes look like disfunctional blended family - did they just recycle old colours they did not approve into holiday palette? Point to discuss - how much is PMG charging for their palettes if they are able to sell it for half the price and still make a profit (I base this on my own experience with pricing where all things had to be upped at least 300% of original cost and the lowest profit is 100%[aka 50% sale of almost anything]) everyone does that (restaurants, markets etc.) but what makes me wonder is the fact you can get 12 pan of multichromes for almost same price +/- as full price PMG palette with 4 special shades…. It’s the name isn’t it? 🤦🏼‍♀️ don’t tell me it’s her name.

I only have the original 6 pan eyeshadows PM first released and I’ve found they wear a long time on my lids and hold their color better than Colourpop shadows, which tend to fluff away and fade quickly for me

I bought the quints because getting all three is like getting a new Mothership palette at a discounted price, their color-story and they're travel friendly.

Super cute shirt! I am not willing to pay PML prices for the mother ships but I do enjoy the christmas one that I bought. I was almost convinced for the divine droid colour story so I am excited to see it swatched.

As a Trekie, I'm just jealous that Star Wars folks get so much cool stuff and Star Trek just got one, years ago. I like Star Wars, too, so I may actually get something from colourpop just to kinda comfort myself 😁😅

I have all of the ColourPop star wars 9 pans (missing the bigger palette). I enjoy them as merch and as color stories. I have a fair amount of indie makeup and some higher end palettes. I got the divine droid palette as my first pmg palette. I'm definitely not blown away by it so far and realize it's more of a merch thing. I'm glad I only got the one that had a color story that interested me.

I find it funny that you say not every palette has to cater to our exact preferences, because I'm at the point where I have so much eyeshadow that if it doesn't cater to my exact preferences the answer is no. At this point I'm looking for reasons not to buy something. However...that Winx Club collection...I've waited literally years for this, I'm buying it 100% I'm so hyped!

I love ColourPop, PMG, and Star Wars. I happily collected all the CP Star Wars and would love to have the PMG collection too, but I couldn't justify the cost this time of year.

I appreciate the blunt honesty. Buy things for the right reasons for you and your collection. I love my Star Wars x CP palettes, and I mix & match between them.

I'll be the first to say that Pat Mcgrath does way too many rosy colors, but I can't stop thinking how great that pink satin looks on you, it goes so well with your undertone, you could have worn it with no other eye makeup and maybe a red lip, for a super editorial look

Just a note about the packaging: The larger mothership packaging is already flat and black. They wouldn't have had to pay for another injection mold or anything. It's a straight screenprint, just like with the cardboard packaging at that point. (Well, not THIS cardboard packaging. Stickers are definitely cheaper.) There are precisely zero reasons why they couldn't have screenprinted the mothership, especially since none of the collab money was going for developing new color stories or anything. For $129 retail a pop, where they're easily getting $70 -$80+ per unit, even wholesale...an extra $2 or less to print the plastic wouldn't cut that far into the margins. Auntie Pat just completely cheaped out on this one, and did a disservice to both the franchise and her customers.

Angelica, you have become my top watched beauty KZreadr recently. I think in large part because you always have new uploads, and I have grown to love your personality and content.

I watched Heather's video and when she held up the big pallette my fiance and I died laughing because of the placement of the string holes for the closure. If you know you know lol.

Imo it's Colourpop's fault the rumors about the Darth Vader palette got started lol, because in ALL the original promo pics the black looked like a red. Not black with red, just red XD Which would have been fine if they'd made it clear it was a black with red sparkle, but they didn't, so everyone assumed it was a red because it sure did look like one in all of Colourpop's photos XD

I got the Sith and Droid palettes and while I don't have them yet, I'm happy with what I decided to get. I think the Sith palette will work great with the CP one, and the Droid has a really lovely colorstory and fun names for R2D2. I'm glad I didn't give into temptation with other things 😅

"This is the way." Honestly, as a Star Wars fan myself, having anything Star Wars makes me happy, but it's so disappointing that Pat went the route she did. I love her formulas which is fine. If I want to have Star Wars stickers on my pallets, I can buy them and slap them on myself. Hell, we can print them and do the same thing.

I love Star Wars, I grew up with it, have seen the films hundreds of times, so it has a strong nostalgic pull for me! I bought the 15 pan Colourpop palette for the packaging and that iconic film poster photo, and also the gold jelly shadow for the droid packaging 😂, but I have found the shadows are good quality, and I enjoy the variety. I have received nice compliments when I wear it too, and people are really surprised when I say it's a Star Wars palette. This was an interesting introspective, I never thought of "makeup as merch" but that is a bang on description. I am an eyeshadow lover and prefer to use higher end quality brands for my staple colours and shimmers, so this is the only one that is also "merch" (that said, I also have a few Colourpop super shock shadows which are great!) Once the actual product expires I'll probably frame it in a shadow box frame to enjoy for all time 😊

Some day when you feel lazy, try the first two PMc shades alone or add a inner corner shade. With your new hair color it looked❤❤❤. Maybe it was the lighting but it was magic!

For the Star Wars I went with Colourpop. I have a couple Pat McGrath palettes they are nice quality, but I have other indie brands I prefer more. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I mean for a $36 quint, I don't think the packaging is the _worst_ ever and the imagery they picked for it is stunning. I think there also might have been an issue with printing on the palette and keeping the metallic blue she went with for them. I got the collection because I love Star Wars, I *LOVE* R2D2 (Colourpop still hasn't given us that nor am I buying Colourpop eyeshadow anymore), I am a metallic over matte eyeshadow wearer and honestly don't wear mattes 95% of the time when I do my eyeshadow, and lastly, Colourpop mattes contain talc. I decluttered all my Colourpop last month except for a few metallics and my pressed glitters. I don't know if many people know this but talc and asbestos grow together and they are both the same white colour, so it is near impossible for the talc in makeup to be completely asbestos free. So personally, I'd rather splurge and not have to worry about any long term side effects from using my makeup.

I declutter my Mandalorian palette, I stayed with two shades. I didn't like it, the eye looks were nothing to write home about. I haven't tried the big star wars palette from Colourpop but I really want to. I heard from different youtubers that is really good. I love my Mother Pat I have her entire collection. Now this star wars collection was a no for me. Same palette repackage, I expected better from her, the only mini palette I can get my head around is the golden one but is sold out. I’m guessing this will be the last PML collab with Star Wars. After so many negative and meh reviews I doubt they’ll want to work with her again. I don’t have anything from the brand and I was interested but not anymore, I would much rather risk ordering from Colourpop, PML is available in my country and CP isn’t, I’m afraid it might come damaged. Anyway, thank you for making up my mind. Have a great time gaming ❤

PLEASE people will buy it whether it performs well or not and it's _Disney_ they will continue to do anything that will make them more money regardless of quality. Plus the makeup itself is _good_ even if the quint/lip product packaging was lacking.

I did a very similar look today! But I used Dominique’s Transition palette with Zombi and Skyla from Devinah. Also used Prance in the waterline. I just got the vault for Xmas and I can see why you’re obsessed. I’m still holding out for a Amedala/Padme double palette release from colourpop 🤞🏻

I bought the first StarWars collection from pat and it was such a cluster that i havent bought anything else since. I LOVE StarWars but its just not worth it. I absolutly love your Ashoka shirt! 🥰

For what it's worth, this time around went *much* smoother than the first collection she did with them.

I hopped on that Star Wars train last year right before the big CP collection came out. I took Darth Vader palette before it indeed because of the colour story, as I felt like I need to add some quality grays to wte I’ve got, and even tho I wasn’t at the time thrilled about Star Wars, I saw the palette representing well the Darth Vader theming. But I had a slightly different story with the C-3PO palette. 😃 I don’t usually go for golds, but that one was really tempting, and I also thought that it’s representing the character very well. Then, actually, your review came in, and you said that it’s leaning more to yellow side, so, I was sold on that. Took it on Black Friday sale, and I’m happy with my palette, it’s really nice, and I really think that CP is doing well with these things in general. They’re good for both collectors and people who actually use them for the purpose of using makeup. ♥️

The cool thing about the CP collab palettes is that you can remove/replace the shadows if they're not your favorites or shades you will actually use. Soooo, for $16 you can buy a nine pan magnetic palette (plus 9 shadows) of an IP you really like. Personally I would love it if some of these IP collabs included empty magnetic palettes, lipstick cases, refillable powder compacts, etc. I have makeup that I really like, it would be nice to have custom LE design palettes/compacts to put it in. Or even sell full size stickers that you could add to the makeup you already own. I bought The Child palette because I liked & use those shades plus the packaging was adorable. And I haven't even watched The Mandalorian & am not a big SW fan. I do really like the artwork/package design of the CP Star Wars palettes over the PMG personally but The Child was the only colorstory I could see myself using.

Without watching the video yet, I’m going with Colourpop lol. The last year, I’ve really become to love Colourpop. I was late trying them out and I’m really enjoying their eyeshadow palette’s, highlighter’s and blushes. That’s all I’ve tried from the brand. 😊

It's so funny, I was hangry for SW makeup way before any companies started doing substantial SW collections. Remember Coastal Scents? During one of their Hot Pot sales I grabbed enough shadows to create a trilogy of palettes for the 3 Original films, with color stories based on the characters or events in each of them. Are they the most user-friendly color stories? No, but they meant something to me, and it was a very fun vanity project. This was back in the summer of 2019; I still have them to this day and never used them.

I have always said: Different things have different worth for different people. My friend had saved up for a big Louis Vuitton bag, which she absolutely LOVES! I would never do that, as I like to switch out, mix and match instead. That doesn't mean that I can't respect, understand or appreciate her decision or the beauty of her bag. 🤷‍♀️😊 About merge: I am not at ALL in it for the merge. ANY merge! I love makeup! But I don't care about merge at all. I understand people who are, though. Would love to try ColorPop, but its difficult living in Denmark. I have some Pat McGrath stuff, which I love. Don't need to own more at this point, though - as not every item is worth it for me. 😊 Another thing: I really have to remember your trick layering a white on top of your matte inner corner highlight! Hallo Angelica. I did buy two of the PM 5 pan. The Sith and Divine Droid , only these items from the launch. I could tell the packaging was nothing spectacular but fun I do love star wars especially the first movies that came out. I mostly did get it for the colors that is why I did not order the other 5 pan or more in the set. It is due to arrive on 1/5. I also own all the CP 9 pan Star wars palettes, I like them and have created nice looks. I will not just buy a collab set for "memories" I have to see myself using it. Great topic and makes one think. Thank you

I have 2 all shimmer palettes I use for a "companion" palettes for palettes that are Matte heavy. One is from Eloise call Saharan and I love the creamy shimmers as well my Tarte Tartiest Pro Remix. I love it so much. The combos are so many you can create. My French is out so forgive any typos. LOL ❤ you Angel!

Was hoping that someone would compare the star wars collab from Colourpop vs Pat Mcgrath as I myself own one of colourpop star wars palettes. Also the lip gloss shade is the same shade in her regular packaging a star wars sticker was placed on it.
