He preached it and God motivated Robert Smith to make it happen! GOD IS GOOD. He is debt canceling GOD. Thanks for canceling the debt of sin and debt of college loans.

This is years later, but I am surprised to learn that MOREHOUSE pulled candidates for graduation out of the ceremony. I graduated from a HBCU. and Traditional State Universities I AM A 6TH GENERATION OF HIGHER INSTITUTIONS DEGREES. NO ONE HAS EVER BEEN DENIED GRADUATION. EVERYONE IS CLEARED BEFORE YOUR NAME IS PLACED IN THE COMMENCEMENT PROGRAM. I AM SO SORRY YOU HAD TO GO THROUGH THAT ANXIETY BUT LOOK WHERE YOU ARE NOW🙏🏼👨‍🎓

Nothing wrong with spirituality, but you would think 20 years into the new millennium, educated and experienced leaders would understand to temper symbolism with practical, mundane realities. I think every speaker at that commencement owed some real-live, real-world solutions to these young black men.

@@puremayo5429 My comment had nothing to do with the actual "Gift" that Mr. Smith gave to those students. I applaud that gesture. I was referring to the INTANGIBLES and SYMBOLISM that the preacher offered as a tool with which to deal with the obvious precarious situation that those beautiful black men will face when they enter into a globalized and calcified economic system. Offering hope and change is not a necessary or sufficient means of arming these young men with practical, real world suggestions including paying this honor forward. If you would, READ "CAPITAL IN THE 21ST CENTURY", BY THOMAS PIKETTY, AS WELL AS SOME OTHER SHOCKING REPORTS THAT PREDICT THE MEDIAN NET WORTH OF DESCENDANTS OF AMERICAN SLAVERY TO REACH 0 BY 2053. PLEASE INQUIRE FURTHER OF THE REALITY OF THIS DATA.

Given that this was a baccalaureate, I believe the preacher was in order. If this were a commencement address then I would see your point. However, given the religious nature of this ceremony I not only think Dr. Smith's sermon was appropriate, I also believe it was prophetic. You should read Hebrews 11:1/ Romans 5:5 to gain clarification. What Reverend Smith said and what Robert Smith did are tied hand-in-hand. The lesson in this is that faith in God fulfills spiritual and practical needs. I appreciate your commentary but respectfully disagree.

@@upt123 Yes this was a commencement ceremony at an institution of higher learning. My point is that ADOS as a community are not tempering the spiritual nature with real world principles. That is my point. Too much Bible and not enough real world data that tells the truth about black mens' real economic predicament in this world. Instead of giving thought out Political Agenda items, these men were pacified and told to read a Bible passage. I think that was very irresponsible of the administration of that UNIVERSITY, which if I am not mistaken, is a Secular institution. There is nothing wrong with recalling the role of faith in the life of the individual. That is a necessary spiritual practice, but I am sick of the uninformed masses trying to convince the Logical, Scientific, Research and data driven members of our community to pray these problems away. Read the reports of the imminent extinction of the black community, and then come back to debate whether or not we can rely only on prayer and faith. My call is to those elements as well as facts, solutions and action. You may respectfully disagree to read the research on the REALITY of the black community's problems, but that is the problem.

Are you aware of the purpose of a baccalaureate? As a African American male, father and an educator I'm fully aware of all our our community's issues. For the record, I'm no fan of "religion" but prefer a "relationship" with the Creator; this perpetuates my faith. Dr. Smith's message was about the practical tenacity to persevere above obstacles and the faith to overcome personal limitations. You completely missed that point. I would suggest you visit Dillard University's commencement speech given by Denzel Washington and see what this successful practical African-American had to say about his success. Your rhetoric indicates an indifference concerning faith and that only you can resolve, through God, if you care to.

Why is this video so short? No Glee Club performances. No introduction of speaker. No “Dear Old Morehouse”. Prior videos of your Baccalaurate programs are all more than one hour. I feel short-changed and disappointed. Delighted for the graduates and Dr. Smith’s prophesy.

Did I just hear this fake preacher say at 17:08 say: "I don't care what you call him Allah or the most high, take him with you." Wow, if this isn't blasphemy, what is? Probably no one else caught it. Only the Holy spirit can help one discern error like this.
