Because of the “ stuff “ on TV - I no longer have a television set in my home .
Watching all these shows - Al Ludden WAS Password. His personality was as powerful as any of the stars on the show, but his skill in containing it while steering them and the games and the show made him one of a kind. No wonder Betty White fell for him. When she was asked, many years after he had passed away, if she would ever marry again, she said: When you have the best, why bother with the rest? RIP Al Ludden

I agree with your opinion of Allen's expertise as Password host. To me, Allen Ludden will always be "The First Gentleman of Password."
R.I.P. Mr. Orson Bean. One of my favorite jokes of his was: The mafia was roughing up this French guy who they say stole a million dollars from them. They ask their interpreter to ask the French guy where he hid the money. The French guy won't say and the interpreter informs the mobsters "he refuses to talk" so they rough him up some more. The French guy still won't tell and the interpreter tells the mobsters "he still won't talk". So the mobsters tell the interpreter to tell the French guy if he won't talk they'll shoot him. The French guy gives in and confesses he buried the million bucks in his backyard 5 yards west of the pine tree. The interpreter tells the mobsters "Nope, he _still_ refuses to tell where the money is". LOL! A truly charming, mild-mannered but quick-witted comic. Thank you for the laughs, Orson.
Allen genuinely loved Carol Burnett. I like his comment when she accidentally said the password. "That's what I like about you Carol, you are so sincere, you look genuinely sorry you said the word." It was rather touching and surprising.
My two favorite comedians. Amazing how Carol just got better & better looking with age. Orson deserved a more peaceful ending.
RIP Orson Bean- so sad living til 91 and then dying crossing a street when still healthy.
Carol is always so darn fun. Her off-the-cuff comments are funnier than a lot of comedians scripted jokes.

Orson should have given the clue “Orson” for the lightning round word “Bean”!
It is a lot of fun to see these performers when they were so very young!!
I certainly love Carol
Carol.burnett is a revelation
"You are a vision of sartorial splendor". Lol. The way Orson delivered that was hilarious.
Orson Bean and Tony Randolph were so knowledgeable regarding unusual or rare facts.
Orson is such fun to watch: he's kind, happy and lovable. Carol is as effervescent then as she is now, a real class act! Great episode! :)

@@rebeccasimantov5476 You were born the same year as my youngest sister. I'm glad that you also love Password. It is a fun show to watch! Wish I lived in the sixties as an adult!
Orson Bean died in February 2020 & was 91. He always reminded me of Alan Young who played Wilbur Post in Mister Ed. I also thought Carol Burnett was a fine player & I just love the expressions she makes, she is so funny. She is now 88.
I’ve noticed they used to repeat the same words throughout the years
I remember we had a bell and Howell movie camera and slide projector
Thank you so much for these uploads of the halcyon days of a great game show. Carol Burnett is one of my favorite human beings. Such a talent. I've got tickets to see her during my birthday week next spring and can't wait!

Thank you soooo much for these episodes of Password. For me, they are a conduit for reminiscing about the "good old days" when game shows were real entertainment. Again, thank you!
I love Orsen Bean. He was one of my favorites on Match Game (he's be around 9 or 10, but he'd still be in the top 10)
It is always funny when Jack Clark is laughing.
Orson was a fox. Have always loved him.

Orson Bean, a great but underrated actor. RIP.
I liked it better earlier in 1962 when the same players played for the entire episode.
OMG I can't believe I never realized that was Loren Bray from Dr. Quinn. I never seen this episode.
Right after Christmas a contestant named Barbara Kringle was partnered with Orson Bean. I'm surprised he didn't ask her if she had a brother named Kris.

@@marystrenke3050 So he was killed on the day that you were born into the world or killed on the day every year that your birthday occurs? I think Cecil B. DeMille died the same day that Alfalfa died too. And I just watched a small youtube documentary on Carl "Alfalfa" Switzer. It was very interesting. It explained the circumstances of his being killed.

Wow, I didn't know you had shows from this early in the shows run. These are fantastic. I just looked up that the show started Oct. 2, 1961.
Orson Bean reminds me so much of Clark Gregg. Or perhaps the other way around
I like it better when they have the option to "play" or "pass" - thus "password".
Sixty years ago this week.
Liked Orson in Anatomy of a Murder
That's Carol's real hair !!!!
He pronounced Missouri like a native
Carol Burnett gets on my nerves on the show when she was younger. I always liked to watch her when she was older .
Elated for excitement, or exuberant
Every woman Allen says is pretty I'm thinking exactly that when they come on! He has very good judgement about looks, in my humble opinion, he praises the more striking or unusual looking ladies than the girl next door type. Am I the only person in the world who doesn't like Orson Bean? Yes, probably.

OMG , Orson , you can't say that on TV !!!!
1:57, anyone else think he looks like Tony Randall?
That Picard dude sure had a lot more hair than Jean-Luc :-)

Orson must have been instructed not to mention his name as a clue for bean. Overall, I like his persona on Password, as opposed to his run on Match Game ten years later, as usual, another great game 😊

lol, host asks the male contestant: you are an intern, and what do you plan to do.... then he turns to the female contestant: what does your husband do? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. the silly old days
@loissimmons6558

They interviewed the contestants before the show to find out the salient details of their lives. When a female contestant had a job outside the home, Allen would ask a question to find out what kind of job it was. Of course we don't know the details of those interviews. In those days, there were women who had outside jobs but still were prouder of being a wife and mother. And with college students, whether male or female, Allen would ask their major or what their plans were after graduation. As a student of history, I know that social norms and conventions in the past two to three generations have changed at a dizzying pace compared to most other times in human history.
a lot of work for 450 but then it was about 1,000 so she did well.... in this era I was taken to a taping of the show but I have no vivid memory of it.

wonder if carol ever tired of havin to alwys be 'on'....and so hyper...bet she had a quiet mellow side when off cam.

Dumb question to ask a stewardess. Sign of those times.
President Kennedy was still alive that’s how long ago this was recorded.
“What does your husband do for a living?”
For the word Bean why didn’t Orson say “Me” or “Orson” as clues? 🤪
Bill was clueless
Transylvania for vampire
How did they not get vampire after the clue Dracula 🧛♂️ ??
lol, it's so hard to believe what they thought Excited meant back than ! 🤷🏼♀️ 🙃 🤦🏼♀️
Orson Bean was amazingly knowledgeable!!! But a real stinker in his later days.

How so?
I think they should have let them accept signal due to pronunciation. Sign is the long I. Signal is the little i sound. Sort of ridiculous! Also really surprised that Orson Bean's opponent didn't immediately think of Vampire when he said Dracula. I think he thought she was kind of dumb but didn't want to say anything directly because he said something to the effect that it was a direct hint. Also she didn't get cheat when he said examination, crib, etc. And she couldn't even get the word rake until about 8 clues. It was too obvious. I'd be so mad at her if I was Orson. What a DUMMY!!!

I thought "booty"would have been a good clue ... in those days it didn't have a salacious implication. I've noticed that when the word is PARTY, a lot of times they'll give the clue "gay." Different times.
"....well aren't you pretty? Let's play the game before I get distracted" That's so creepy.

@michelewarren ---- You must be from the Gloria Steinem school of grumpy, unmarried, unwanted, childless women. Having a husband and baring children was NORMAL in 1962. My mother watched Password then, while she was ironing and folding clothes. She was able to do that because she was a Housewife and mother and my Dad had a job.
