Hey Shawn, what about doing something on an area that might be cemented? I have an old Bridge truss nearby that all sorts of folks try active fishing from, but never saw anyone trying to do what you did by making some kind of "auto hooker". I think there may be grass you could set something into but your fighting the height of the weeds right next door to the riverbank, plus, it's too shallow that no fish would go up that close. What could you do to set a "auto hooker" up on something you can't really drive stakes into & still have it work? ( This would include any stakes to keep a pole in place?) PS - what about casting with a "auto hook" styled thing? I'd imagine that you cast it 1st, then set up the L 7 situation to snag a fish ( hopefully? Around me, you have the "elusive lakeweed" or "waterlogged stick fish", both probably wouldn't be good eating!

It’s really a prejudice that’s particular to the USA. Most of the rest of the world eat small fish we’d consider bait. It’s related to our history of abundance. The Columbian exchange refers to all the foods found in the new world that were high yield and easily stored. Potatoes, tomatoes, corn. This meant we had enough sustenance to become picky about what we eat. Sprats, sardines, anchovies, capelin, loaches are everyday staples around the world

Corp, we eat sun “pan” fish all the time. Food is food. Cutting the tail off is great, probably not going to be eating that or the guts. Use them for bait. This reminds me of your videos from years back, I miss those days, when you were doing the videos that you wanted to or felt was necessary to teach. Thank you for all you do. My version of passive fishing, find a nice spot, bait your hook, cast it out, lay back on the bank, put the pole in the crook of your arm, take a good book and open it up, put it over your eyes and read through osmosis. The only way to spend a afternoon. 😊😊

You probably weren’t even conscious of it, but I so appreciate that you kept the mask on the hatchet/axe when driving stakes. That is such a good practice. I mostly solo when in the forest, and safety is paramount. I always keep the mask on my small (Husqvarna) axe when I am using it as a hammer; why take the risk of an injury? The rest of the video was, of course, also informative, but the safe-practice example was an added bonus. Be safe, and enjoy the forest. Thank you.

one of the things you could go over is how to "call worms" (they call it the worm gitter stick) kinda cool .. basically its a decent size dry stick that has some crescents carved out of it.. you put one end in the soft leafy dirt, and run another stick up and down the side.. causing a drumming/vibration .. this causes worms to come to the surface.

Here in Wisconsin you are only allowed to use a fishing rod and you have to be within sight of it at all times. I suppose you could use a hand line instead of a rod but that isn't as efficient. Once a friend of mine went to the porta-potty and left his lines in the water. I pulled mine up until he got back but not before the warden showed up. Luckily I didn't have any lines in the water and claimed his rods as mine
