Passing 190 Riders Whilst Racing The Megavalanche With No Dropper Post!

Спорт

The Megavalanche is the Longest Downhill race in the world! This mountain bike race starts sky high up on Pic Blanc at 3300 metres in Alp D' Huez.
The total distance of the Megavalanche is around 20kms (13 miles) long with 2700mts of descent which roughly takes 1 hour to complete. (The Pros decent in 45mins).
I qualified terribly for the megavalanche after crashing before turn one as well as getting two flat tyres! Watch my quality run here; • Megavalanche Race From...

Love the way you collapsed on the grass at the end. What a herculean effort overall. Some of those sections you were flying! And riding boulders to avoid the snow :) Amazing ride

Well done mate, still made it down 7 mins quicker than I managed in the Challengers, if you have better luck next year you'll make the main race no bother at all I reckon. Hoping I can join you in it, I hope to find a few marginal gains for next time...

Thanks, That's awesome to hear. Happy to help! Yeah i had rimpact inserts front and back, the double puncture was my bad really as i was running a REALLY knackered Michelin Enduro. After the double puncture i went for the Maxxis minions, DH casing! Brilliant tyre..... road a fair bit in the alps this summer without any issue. would highly recommend. This article might help if you're thinking of doing the mega for the first time........mtbtrailhub.com/mtb-trails/megavalanche-guide/

Super impressed by your riding, you obviously should have been in the Big Race. C'est la guerre, huh? I was one of those riders in the last cable car with you and yes, what a shambles! I'd qualified for Challengers but had an injury while qualifying so dropped back to the Amateur race instead to recover. Like you they put me on last line but when we got out at Pic Blanc and they were 'Quickly, the race starts in 2 minutes!' (so unfair) I didn't have any of my armour on. Absolute disaster! So I have you beat, not only did I miss the start, it was over a minute before I even reached the start line. I was so p**d off but made the most of it Foxhunt style and came in 65th. Pretty pleased with that until I researched rider 901... (and the reason for this rambling comment)... So when I started late, rider 901, wearing snazzy white pants, was waiting at the start for EVERYONE to pass(me included). He was obviously charging so I latched on and kept up with him for a bit but he was too good and lost me on the snow traverse. Woohoo for GoPro though because I'm watching your video yesterday and suddenly there his in front of you from 9.30. Good ole white pants! He must have passed you when you were fixing your dropper. You two had a right old tussle on the traverse, great to see. Apparently he came 10th which, starting from dead last is a phenomenal performance. Such a shame you had the mechanical as you might have been there with him at the finish. It's some day out, huh?

This is one of my favourite comments and brings back a few memories! Our matey in the white trousers, there is more to this story....... Firstly I used up so much energy trying to out pedal him on the traverse, he then left me for dust as soon as we hit the next hill! haha It turns out he was staying in the same chalet as me and was working for a tyre brand in the race village throughout the week. He actually helped fix my dropper the day before the race!!! I had no idea it was him until we crossed the line, I felt terrible after hyping him up on the traverse and then eating his dust for the next 40 minutes! haha To add further salt into the wound, turns out he was racing blind after not riding the race trail all week due to working! haha Not all heros wear capes but turns out they do wear white trousers!!! haha See you on the start line this summer?

@@MtbTrailHub HA! It's pretty obvious to me White Pants knobbled your seat post. Excellent story. It's like every rider has a thousand stories after this week, huh? I do love it so. Yes, my buddies and I will be there, I can't conceive life without Mega now. First time I went (2019) I just wanted to get into Amateurs. Last year I was chasing the Challengers and yes, this year, despite it being a bit above my pay grade, I'm giving it my all to get in the Pro race. EVERYTHING has to go right but it's doable. See you there with elbows out!
