I don’t think that’s the BEST thing about this performance. Due to the song’s title ‘The Sound of Silence’ it’s befitting in 2 aspects that he asked, and they obliged - giving both him and the song the respect they each deserve!

Whoa! He asked thousands of people for a little bit of his Sound of Silence ......... they honoured this until at about 3:25 in, He did that bit of genious and (strummed?) the hell out of his guitar - How would any audience with soul, keep quiet after that ? Do the vocal experts of the world say to keep away from 'cover versions' unless you make it better or unique.....case in point. "Thank YOU so much" Thoroughly enjoyed that, and probably will, many times over x

Mike, you're a great artist in my mind for a lot of reasons. You've been the soundtrack of my life over the past decade. It all started with Let Her Go. My ex and my sister's husband left about the same time and we were both devastated. He was/still is my world. I'm 💔 still, but have come a long way. My brother in law died and i miss him greatly. I lost everything: my possessions, my home, my sense of security, belonging, and above all, love. I ended up getting very sick from a very rare, previously undiagnosed neurological condition that's debilitating most days. He's seen what I have been through and has come back as an old friend who has someone else but still has kept an eye on me, as protector. And a shoulder and ear for me. He gives the best hugs! There's days i didn't know how much I missed myself, my love, and our family. I felt emotional and physical sickness of being VERY numb and VERY angry. Your lyrics are what i was feeling and trying to figure out how to work on, through. You gave helped me be emotional and right made me give myself permission to feel and finally cry. Thats an unknowable gift you can't understand what it means to myself, and people like me. I hope you get around to the Upstate NY area at some point so I can see you live. Thank you again and all the best!!

Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence In restless dreams, I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone 'Neath the halo of a street lamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence And in the naked light, I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never shared And no one dared Disturb the sound of silence "Fools" said I, "You do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you" But my words, like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells of silence And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming Then the sign said, "The words on the prophets are written on the subway walls In tenement halls" And whispered in the sound of silence

+Cara Woodson I AGREE. This his a musician interpreting a song, making it his. Feeling it. If a connection is established in the end with the public, that's another matter. If there was no original and this was the first to appear, I'm guessing people would love it. The unfairness of it is that is not the case. And a first love was established when Simon and Garfunkel opened their mouths back in '64.

Simon & Garfunkel Lyrics "The Sound Of Silence" Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence In restless dreams I walked alone Narrow streets of cobblestone ‘Neath the halo of a streetlamp I turned my collar to the cold and damp When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light That split the night And touched the sound of silence And in the naked light I saw Ten thousand people, maybe more People talking without speaking People hearing without listening People writing songs that voices never share No one dare Disturb the sound of silence “Fools” said I, “You do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you” But my words like silent raindrops fell And echoed in the wells of silence And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And the sign flashed out its warning In the words that it was forming And the sign said “The words of the prophets Are written on the subway walls And tenement halls And whispered in the sounds of silence”

+matrix6977 I agree. Is he interpretation of the song, that he sangs with feeling. Not all music has to be a modern copycat of the original. Although I appreciate originals a lot more than versions, it's not always fair to compare. The purpose is different, the age is different, the person singing is different and has different feelings and life experiences. This is a guy that loves music feeling it! If in the end you feel a connection or not that's another matter. Still, he owns it because he makes it his. If there was no original and this was the first time this music was eared I'm guessing people would praise this performance (and version).

It made me cry it was so amazing. I don't know about you, but this performance made me feel pure emotion. Not like normal emotion, but like an amazing feeling that I haven't felt in a long time. I can't even describe this in words. I'm purely speechless.

I don't think his intention was to be on the same level of Simon and Garfunkel. He took one of our favorite songs (even me as a 90s kid) and played a passionate performance that moved me to tears. Us as artists do not try to be exactly like the original artist if we play covers, its to pay tribute to the song because we think it's damn amazing and give it our own spin. I think it's a beautiful thing.

I've had some of the best nights of my life at Passenger concerts. Mike is a man of genuine talent and has a heart of gold, I've never seen such lovely transitions and how he has a gift of moving the audience. I remember the beginning chords of "Sound of Silence", how you could drop a pin and hear it over the guitar, and how it crescendoed, hundreds of hands clapping in sync and singing. I even met him after one concert, and how humble this man is! Like he didn't affect so many lives! What a wonderful artist, and fantastic guy!

I’ve listened to S&G since birth (1966), and I think Passenger has done a great rendition. Paul Simon’s words, with Passenger’s own emotion and textures. The acoustic guitar jam inside the body of the song made me think of Richie Haven’s “Freedom”.

I could listen to this song a thousand times, which I have. It has a new meaning each time. A nuance you missed before. Each person singing adds just a little bit more to it. A timeless piece that will live as long as there are artists who have a soul and add their own touch to this song.

Mike Rosenberg is an amazing artist who still maintains a closeness with the people who listen to him. Despite becoming more and more well know he still asks for a reasonable price for his concerts. I paid $32 to obtain a ticket to his upcoming concert in Toronto, Canada. So humble and so caring of his audience.

I know people are 50/50 about people doing covers. Some think they do it just because it’s a popular song. Some do it to pay homage to that artist. I’ve never been a huge fan of passengers music, not because he doesn’t sing well he just doesn’t sing the kinda music I like. But I absolutely loved this cover of the song. It’s hard to cover a song when the original is already so good. But I always love hearing people’s twist on this song.

He is an amazingly talented song writer, if he writes his songs. I first heard his song Let her go sung by Alex and Sierra on X Factor and was blown away by the song. The thing is once I l started listening to his voice I couldn't finish the song. His voice is jarring and not in a good way imo. Same category as Adele or Fantasia for me, sure they can sing, but their voices are so grating I'll pass.

Bound4Earth Yeah, he does write most of his songs. He actually wrote "Let Her Go" and the whole album it makes part of, all by his own, no help from anybody. I'm actually amused by this, and he's definitely one of the best musicians in this planet.
