Art Tatum spun melodies and harmony i could hold onto and that moved my soul. One need not study jazz on an instrument to "get" Tatum's genius. This guy "Grasso" is playing stuff that sounds like it was developed in an overkill theory laboratory. Technique and complexity only for its own sake, not to serve any musical point, other than an attempt to impress colleagues. Not surprising nobody knows who he is.

@@Trombonology Disagree, my point stands. I'm a jazz musician and fanatic for 40 years. Never heard from any colleagues about "this guy". This came up at random on my feed. I'm not interested in hearing anything else from him. Clearly not many others will or have either for reasons i stated. The arrangements are overkill parodies of jazz. Listen to Julian Lage, or Antoine Boyer, these are the modern luminaries that Grasso can't touch musically.

The word Virtuoso is not enough to describe the greatness of Pasquale. The greatest in the world right now.

More Tal and Joe than Django maybe, but the glissando skills could be Django-esque. Either way, this is astounding AF.

The cream of the cream of Jazz Guitar I have to say...

I was fortunate enough to attend a workshop he hosted in Daytona Beach Feb 8th 2020. Not only was he a stunning and incredible guitarist and musician he was gracious and sincere at the workshop. A genuine presentation and worked with those present and a few times with an individual if it benefited the entire group. He had given a concert the night before and it was so special he made time for a stop like this between performances. Coming up to 64 years old in March and this was one of the most special moments in my life. I hope he knew the accolades I gave him after the performance were honest and meant to have him realize there are folks who know he's either the best or one of the top 5 living guitarists in the WORLD. A truly gifted and hard practicing musician. I hope the whole world of listeners will find this man. Truly a marvelous musician and a outstanding person of the world. He also exhibited a sense of humility. A treat God has bestowed upon us. Thank you so much Pasquale !!!

Pasquale Grasso is arguably the best jazz guitarist the world has ever seen. Yet he remains a relatively unknown figure, due in part to jazz being a style of music which is only listened to by a fairly small minority of the population. Had he lived in the era of Art Tatum and Bud Powell, he would I'm sure be a household name.
