The Dancing Duo
We first saw this Dancing Duo here four years ago. It was pure magic. This Pas de Deux, (French for “steps of two”) team includes two Oldenburg horses who are full brother and sister (born 2003 and 2004), making it unique (Sire: Routinier and Dam D’Elexa [Diamont]). Joy Rothe owns the horses and has been riding with teammate, trainer, Sarah Pinney for four years. They continue to progress and prefect their routines. As part of the Saturday evening experience, they are now doing Prix St. Georges movements. “Riding the Pas de Deux takes extreme concentration, riders that work well together, and of course, horses that look similar and work well together. If any two riders might have extra insight into a horse’s thoughts, it would be Joy and Sarah. Joy is a supervisor of Animal Training and Behavior for the National Marine Mammal Foundation and Navy Marine Mammal Program. A professional trainer in San Diego, Sarah works at Sun Hill Training. “The horses seem to enjoy doing the movements together and we, as riders, can’t help but smile during our rider as it is so fun for us and it also makes others smile,” Joy elaborated. Those smiles were showcased on the January 2015 cover and in a feature article of Dressage Today, a premiere equestrian magazine. “The four of us strive to move together with very few signals and to get all four of us into a similar stride and flow. We hope everyone enjoys this as much as we do!”
