The Parusakawan Palace is free to visit in Bangkok and I would definitely class it as off the beaten track. There are a number of spellings of the name but I have used the one from the sign outside.
Also on the grounds is the Police museum which is also free and has interesting displays on the Thai Police force from inception to date.
The google map reference is QG96+67 Bangkok, Thailand. It is very close to the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall in the Dusit area of Bangkok.
