Aw dear Susan - I won’t stop! I will be here with my goofy videos, happy with all my sewing friends who leave me wonderful comments! My no-sew is GONE. I am refreshed and ready to tackle anything! (Anything?? Well, maybe!) I really want to be done with this coat/cardigan. Then I’ll be off to the races. I hope to have up a lot of makes for November - wish me luck! I’ll be traveling Thanksgiving week so that will cut into my time. But I’ll just sew and not think about time! You’re so sweet to say that we looked fantastic at the party. It was one week ago today, and it rocked!! Such a fun time with loved ones. Come back soon! Thanks for writing!🌸xo

Oh pamela, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I have sisters and they are some of my closest friends. It is a devastating hole, and I am praying for your peace and wellbeing. Sewing is such a lovely thing to do because it’s gentle (until it’s a wee bit maddening, lol) and then it’s downright fun when something fits well or that certain piece of fabric sings in a new application. When you feel ready, sew. When you feel sad, sew. When you’re feeling better, sew. It is a patient friend who waits. All the best, thank you for writing.🌸💕

Hi Quiltygal! Thank you so much. It was a fantastic party and I think the happiness was leaping off our faces.😄I am happy about those vintage sewing supplies! It’s better than them ending up in a trash can, that’s for sure. Someone else’s supplies are always interesting to look through. She tended to like a lot of scissors like I do.👍

Oh my gosh, Cynthia, that’s amazing! I’m telling you that dress is a very involved sew! Apparently Jean favored a lot of top stitching, and the waist gathers at the waist band were held in place by hem tape that was basted on. Your mom must have worked hard on your dress, and I bet it was gorgeous! I wish I could see a picture! Would you email me one? gramcan@juno.com - if you choose to. No pressure! Thanks for letting me know; I’m absolutely charmed!😄👍

This is such a cute idea, Variations! I love it!! The event was actually held in a science museum and it was so beautiful. The ceiling was high and domed and as the night wore on it turned a gorgeous purple-blue. There was a huge pendulum display in the center. And this museum had been an old train station with some of the original grand benches preserved. Beautiful tile flooring and majestic windows. What a party!!🎊🎉Thanks for commenting, lovely to see you!😄💕

You and your husband are a great looking couple. So classy! Your dress choice and hair cut was perfect. What a nice find with your vintage sewing supplies. The sweet lady would be pleased to have someone like you who loves to create, acquire her possessions that she lovingly kept. Everyone gets in a dry slump...whether it is from cooking, knitting, reading, cleaning, or sewing. It is just your mind’s way of taking a rest. When I am that way, I take advantage of my downtime to watch videos, look through my sewing books or rediscover my patterns and supplies. Your eagerness to create will return. Perhaps do something fun and easy. A make up bag even a holiday decoration....may be just what you need to get back your spark. Looking forward to your next video. I get excited when you have a new one!

Hello Cindi👋, lovely to hear from you! Aw, you have said such nice things to me (again) and I am so appreciative. You even called us classy! Wooo hooo!😄Thanks! It’s been a lot of fun looking through the sewing supplies. I don’t even notice the musty smell anymore, lol. I’m happy that these things weren’t thrown away, and that most of the boxes were donated. Always good to salvage antique sewing notions.👍I appreciate what you’ve said about slumps, and you’re so right. The mind does need a rest. I do feel refreshed after reading so many kind and encouraging words and I’m planning to sew all weekend. My husband will be on travel and I think I can let the cooking slide a little bit...for more sewing time of course! I am so happy for your support and that you take the time to write.🌸xo

Next up will be a winter pullover hoodie for my husband and I’m already bracing myself for the exposed zipper on the front.😬 Sewing is an adventure! I’m over my no-sew and feeling ready to rock & roll!👍 Hopefully I’ll have a good amount of garments to show you by the end of November. I’ll go down trying! OMG--VIVMOM--you need your own COMEDY channel! I got up, made my coffee, and started watching this video. I was ROFL in 3 minutes. Pattern errors are my nemesis. As well as my daughter's! She always calls them and chews them out! Even got a new pattern for that! LOVING the bee! They haunt me ALL the time. The dear old lady with the sewing stuff--OMG--I got TWO elderly friends sewing supplies when they went to a smaller place. So I TOTALLY identify with all that stuff you are going through! Buttons, thread, needles(hundreds) etc etc. So this video--seriously---tears running down my face laughing! Your expressions--don't ever LOSE them!

Ah what a great final choice for your party dress Viv! You and hubby looked great. I like the pattern you chose for the coat. Mind you I feel your pain with the pocket dilemma. I have, this evening, been trying to sew a free download pattern for a portable diaper bag that I offered to make for my daughter in law to give to her sister at her shower party. The instructions have driven me so mad that I downed tools, cursed and redesigned the bag in, hopefully, an even better but easier way and still get a similar end result. It's like doing a jigsaw with 10-15 important pieces missing! I have a load of my late mum's sewing stuff. It'll be a good few years till I need to buy machine needles. She had so many! But oh most of the other stuff was so musty! What's worrying is that this is the era of stash building and if we don't use it all up we're all going to grow old with musty fabrics around us. 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 I used to love Jean Muir (she was British) dresses years back. She mainly sewed with jersey and every garment she made had parallel topstitching in matching thread on all the seams. And regarding your lack of interest for sewing. It happens. It understandable given the amount of clothes you wereturning out. Sometimes you need to take time out, recharge your batteries and it will come back when you are ready. Just come on and natter to us about anything and we'll love it. Oh and I loved the bee's 🐝 guest appearance too. 😂🤣😂🤣 😍😘

What a fantastic note to me, Micheline!💕I think I would have self-destructed with that diaper bag. Omg. It is just infuriating when products aren’t tested and thoroughly checked for usefulness. Bravo to you for improving on the design and throwing the instructions out the window! You are a generous soul to sew for your daughter in law’s sister, wow. She will love something handmade by the great michou makes!!🌸👍You make a great point about our mountains of fabric growing old with us - nothing like a little pressure to get us busy. I keep blabbing on about my 10 year goal...which is all fine and well IF I would cease buying fabric!! Good grief. At this rate I’ll need a 20 year goal, and then I’ll be old and musty myself, never mind the sewing supplies.😂 I didn’t know Jean Muir was British. It sounds sort of French to me. I looked and you’re right about all the topstitching. The directions for the dress I have are quite intense! I don’t think I have that level of energy on hand at present. But I am suitably refreshed to get sewing this weekend and not come up for air. My lack of productivity is weighing on me. I drink up the loads of encouragement my sewing friends so generously give to me here. Thank you so much!💕😄

How special to receive those items from that woman’s estate. I’ve received three estate fabric/notion hauls, one of which was a lady who had cancer and could no longer sew. I made up several of the things in her stash and wrote to her telling her how much I appreciated her stash and felt like I was continuing her dream of making up the lovely clothes and sent it to her. Her caretaker read it to her which warms my heart and she passed away a couple of months later. It’s fun to use up my mom’s thread and use her scissors and notions. It’s like completing the circle. Smiling...

You looked so pretty in it, and the fact that it was comfortable, just made it "the best". Take a sewing break... after all those fast sewing makes, you deserve it.smile. Belated Happy Birthday to your MIL. Hope you have a wonderful week, looking forward to the next video.

Hi judy 👋! Aren’t you sweet to leave me this note. AND to say that we looked fantastic at our son’s wedding party! Thank you!😄💕We had a wonderful time and the dress served me well. No wardrobe malfunctions, even on the dance floor.👍And thanks for the birthday wishes to MIL. 🎂 So many celebrations this month and a vacation to sunny Florida. And the day trip to retrieve all the vintage sewing notions. The woman who sewed hadn’t done so in at least two decades. And that stuff was so musty!! But the fabric is fresh as a daisy now and I think I’ll have a Redskins shirt on my sewing table soon enough. Colin wanted a jacket (bomber style) out of it but I said I don’t think cotton is the best pick for that. Well I’m talking too much - thanks again for coming over and writing!🌸

So glad you had a good time at the party. You looked fab. Hubs too. I love your hair cut. It really falls into place, no matter how the wind blows it. That's a sign of a good haircut. No matter how much you may go through the "no sew blues," you know you'll get back to it, eventually. These are the times, I get inspired by looking through pattern books, and sift through my fabrics. Something clicks and I want to sew it up. Meantime, congrats on rescuing all that great sewing stuff and getting it donated. You were the perfect person to get that done. You're a lovely person. Thanks for sharing your ups and downs with us. What a cute couple you and your husband are!! I am a sewist that sews garments and pieces quilts. When I get bored with one, I switch to the other. I guess I am a jack of all trades and a master of none. I still think you can have fun with projects and not be an "expert". I am a member of 2 quilt guilds and can in no way compete with some of these women! But I have fun doing.Wish I could meet local women that garment sew but most just quilt. Hello Helen👋! I would say you’re multi-talented and quite skilled to be a quilter and a garment sewer. You are a rare one!🌸My sister quilts but she has no interest in sewing garments, and I feel the same about quilting. I think it is a beautiful craft and I adore the quilts she has given to us. The choices of fabrics and themes are just astounding, and quilts can be perfectly personalized. They are endlessly creative. Garment sewing is a different animal altogether, would you agree? It is also creative but we can’t sew every piece out of quilting cotton. (I do love quilting cotton!)🌸I will be glad when this coat is done; I’m gathering that I don’t particularly enjoy sewing coats.👎There don’t seem to be any local women here who sew apparel, but I haven’t done much looking. Janine @ Janine Sews is very active in her American Sewing Guild (she’s in Atlanta) and I admire all the work she accomplishes as part of that group. Aw, thank you for saying that I am a joy to listen to and that my makes are fabulous.💐That is such high praise! I really appreciate it and can’t thank you enough. I’ll keep sewing! I just love it so much. I hope to get some pieces done this weekend, as I feel my production has been a bit low. Come back soon! Thanks for writing!💕🌸

I wondered if it would help anyone, as I assume everyone is smarter than me with sewing, but I’ve heard from others that they, too, found it worthwhile. Yay!! That pocket had me upside down and inside out. I was really going to give Simplicity a piece of my mind! lol. Their directions were so lousy, though. You and your husband make quite the handsome couple and I'm so glad you enjoyed the party. Thanks for posting the pocket tutorial. A jacket I recently made called for the same pocket with similar instructions. The instruction pics confused me as well. I wanted to leave my selvages on the pockets so I assembled them differently. In the last week, I've ordered fabric from Fabric Mart and Mayfield Fabric. Yesterday I was beating myself up about and then I looked at what I'm paying. I'll be able to make a dress for $14, a sweater for $7, a suit for $22, and so on. I don't feel bad about it anymore. We have carpenter bees at my house because of the deck. I pet them because they are so cute. They don't like it but that's the fee for living here! Happy stitching.

I go to many auctions as we buy and sell antiquarian books. Sometime you see old boxes of sewing materials , sewing boxes filled with all of the items you showed today , buttons , hooks , threads etc. I've bought about three I think over the years and the joy of seeing someone's life unfold , the little precious things they saved, the care they took , children's name tags , little embroideries , lace... They tell such a special story and you're right, they should never be thrown away . I wouldn't worry too much about the sewing lull. You'll get your energy back soon enough. The party sounded a real event and most of your recent sewing was focused on that. Wait until you start to unpack those fabric parcels 😉

What a lovely note, Diane, thank you!😄💕Yes, yes! The unfolding of someone’s life amid their crafts and supplies...it is very special. How many boxes in how many houses are filled with such trinkets? It boggles the mind. It’s such a nice thing to pass them along to other people who appreciate them.🌸Your business selling antique books sounds very interesting. I bet you’ve seen some real finds along the way.🌸I am happy to report that my sewing lull is a thing of the past. I knew that coming back to visit with you all would do the trick - I receive such fantastic encouragement and uplifting from my sewing friends here. Can’t thank you enough!🌺

Fun video! You were so brave about the bee :-) Glad you shared the visit to the dress makers happy place and were able to help her husband pass along many of the supplies you could not use. There will be lots of delighted and grateful creative ladies. So fun to see the vintage finds you will be able to use. Thank you for taking the time to share the pocket challenge. At the end, one couldn't help but feel delighted, relieved and laugh. I thought isn't life like that. With a little change in how we are looking at a issue, the answer miraculously appears and the solution is doable and simple! Not only can we all now better solve any pocket problem we might encounter, we are better equipped to believe the impossible can be conquered with a little change in how we are perceiving the issue and, therefore, where and how the next home run might be made! Finally, I just kept thinking when you were discussing the coat project, "Yes, the coat is going to be great... good pattern, soft material; but it is grey (a nice grey for a coat, but grey nevertheless) No wonder, Viv has a case of the no-sews." I was so happy that the solution was waiting for you at the door, a box from Mood! What a cliffhanger, now we have to all wait until your next video when you open the box and share what beautiful fabrics are inside." Oh it is so easy to see how a person could get addicted to sewing, but what an exhilarating addiction that benefits a whole lot of people: you, your family, neighbours near and far, and all of us KZreadrs who enjoy everything awaiting to be shared in and from your Happy Place! Many thanks and hugs, Anita

Hello Anita! It’s fun to look back at some of these older videos. I said to Brad the other evening, as I sat amid pattern boxes, patterns strewn about, a couple small stacks of fabric and my sewing notes, “I can assure you, hon, that I will never be losing interest in this hobby.” Sewing has me 100% captivated, almost to a fault. For a while there, I wasn’t even reading regular books anymore! (Now I’m about 1/3 into Gone With The Wind, a classic I’ve never read, and it is a treat.) But sewing is my lifelong love, and all that goes with it. I’m afraid I’ll be having boxes of fabric waiting on my front stoop until I’m a bit stooped myself! Your notes to me have been thoroughly enjoyable, Anita. Thank you so much!

I hope your “no sew “ sickness disappears soon because you’ve encouraged me to get back to my first love, sewing! I’ve been sewing since the 2nd grade and am now teaching my granddaughters. I haven’t sewn in years and just finished sewing 2 night time robes. Your creativity and fearlessness on camera is so fun to watch! Your sewing machine misses you too! Oh and your fashionista approach to displaying the garments you sew is very helpful with the pattern\fabric selection😉 so I’m sending you flowers with hopes you feel better soon,💐💐💐💐💐💕

150 comments and...here is another. You looked beautiful in your chosen party dress. Stretch and Sew was started by an American gal who I think lived in the NW part of the USA; maybe Oregon. She was amazing. (Sorry, I can't remember her name just now...will have to go and look for her info.) I was living in Vancouver in the late 60's..my husband had just been assigned to a new office in Toronto....I stayed behind to so the children could finish their grades at school and I was doing math at UBC. Well..This gal came up from the US and was giving a series of courses in stretch and Sew....Wow! Learn to sew with knits....This was new because there was no information on how to use these NEW KNIT FABRICS. With my hubby away ..I had lots of time to take a few of her courses which was a "god send"; so I spent months learning about and sewing knits. She even had a book at the time which I eagerly picked up and all of her patterns. Never looked back.....for quite a few years knits were scarce and mostly wovens were front and center. Thank goodness that they have become so available again. Love, love the knits. The gal is Ann Person. You might want to google the following... Ann Person Books - Biography and List of Works - Author of 'Stretch Sew'. some of her books can be found on Amazon and possibly in used book stores. Long comment....sorry. I know you will get the "Sewing bug" back again. We all go through these phases but they never last. Sewing calls us back to our machines. Cheers and happy sewing, sweet girl. JoAn

Well, JoAn, I absolutely loved reading about your adventures with Stretch & Sew! Thank you!😄I have heard only good things about S&S, she was a forerunner with giving home sewers the skills to sew with knits - and you’re right: knits were new, exotic, unknown. Remember when I read that list of polyesters from my 1975 Sears catalog? It was like they exploded on the fashion scene! My MIL (who turned 80 yesterday, so I got to wear another one of my party dresses out last night👍) took Stretch & Sew classes at a fabric store near their house in Virginia in 1977, and even dragged my sister in law along as a middle schooler to learn as well. (To this day, my SIL doesn’t sew. I guess it can’t be forced.) It does indeed sound like it was a godsend for you, with your husband gone and the children in school. Did you actually learn from Ann Person herself? I also think Kerstin Martensson (sp?) of Kwik Sew was active in teaching home sewers about knits back in the 70’s - maybe late 60’s. Those women were heroes to the sewing world!🌸Thanks for writing, keep it coming! Always love to hear from you. And thank you for the encouragement and dear compliments.🌸💕

I'm glad you had fun at the wedding celebration. You looked gorgeous in your dress. You and your husband make such a beautiful couple. I understand about your sewing funk. I cut out pattern Simplicity 8168 this week and had a temper tantrum. All of a sudden it just felt too complicated and I wanted to throw it all in the trash.
