Hey Ray it's Roy I noticed the compressor pully was larger than the original and that's why the belt was shorter. FYI. Have a good one buddy
The pully on the new compressor was bigger than the one on the old compressor that's why the belt was tight. see 14:13

Hi, no sorry. This 2010 Ford Escape is basically the same as the 1.5gen Ford escape which is the 2005-2007 model, but with a more boxy style and updated electronics and Powertrain. It's still a very USA or north american model. The Escape-Kuga Gen came in the 2013 model, which having the optional 2.0 Ecoboost, gets way less reliable with the head gasket issue

Ive had two of these square body Escape's. They are very good vehicles. Much better than the newer ones IMO. You can generally get 300,000 miles out of the V6 if regularly maintained and they have lots of power. The 2.5 is way easier to work on though as someone noted. My son has the 2.5 in a Fusion. Great engine that was developed in partnership with Mazda. The 3.0 was designed in partnership with Porsche, believe it or not. I sold my 2011 at 275,000 miles and it was still going strong. Only replaced the water pump and the front cat during that time (besides brakes, exhaust and other wear parts).
The pulley on the new compressor was definitely larger. I was always taught to replace the receiver/dryer pretty much any time the system is opened up but especially when a compressor is replaced. Also a little A/C oil on the new O-rings and seals.

@32:20... You're supposed to go over the water pump pulley last. That's why it has the rounded outer edge. To make it easier to slip the belt over it. It's also a larger diameter, which makes it easier.
Ray, You are a superman. Smart on the cars, running a business, and doing youtube. And the energy to do it all. I'm glad you are in the world. The people who fix stuff are so under-appreciated. I am fascinated with your ability to diagnose and repair stuff. Its that balance between time spent and parts cost. Time is money. The tools you have that save time. The parts supplier that delivers the parts saves you time. Its pretty amazing and brings a better understanding to me about what it takes to repair cars and run an efficient repair shop.

@@andyedwards2993 Yeah some mechanics just throw parts at the issue or say they do and charge accordingly without ever understanding root cause. They get paid little to find a wiring harness connector issue, but if they change the sensor attached to that faulty connector, they get paid. So with that incentive structure, they change the sensor.
Have to watch those older Escapes.that come from the rust belt, the rear shock towers tend to rust away and no one offers a repair for it!

I love the way you figure shit out. I showed you to my mechanic and he is watching all your videos and learning!😊🇨🇦
The pulley on the new part looked to be about an inch wider in diameter than the old one, and that's what ate the free play.
I believe protocol dictates checking amount of oil in new compressor to match old unit . Since these reman units are often times not model specific. Such as different size pully. But hey thats how you keep the customer returning. lol
Good show of your talent and skill. Thank you for your narration while repairing, very entertaining.

Anytime I watch you ray, my day is complete
A former friend of mine who moved to Florida from New Jersey tried to convince me that it's not hot and humid all year long in Florida, mind you he has done a lot of drinking and drugs over the years, I said what about the bugs, especially mosquitoes, he again tried to tell me not to listen to others who have told me who have lived there and moved out because of the weather that it's not as bad as I've been told, right now in New Jersey it's 96, I can't imagine living in that year round, I like the four seasons except for summer and I can't fathom the idea of having it 24/7 365 days a year, no wonder there are so many crazy people down there, I also hear it's not as cheap to live there as it once was, I like winter and snow, the only thing Florida has going for it is a good governor, you can keep your hurricanes and hot and humid year round weather.
Nice work! Always feels good when everything goes smoothly.
Hey Ray, great pt. 2 video. Great work. Cheers!
Thanks Ray
I would say the clutch pulley for the old unit is smaller than the new one, possibly could be for a Diesel maybe? Lower rpm on a Diesel so a bigger pulley would make sense

14:00 You want an OEM compressor body on these for sure! I had a 2012 Escape 2.5 and it had a UAC compressor that made the belt squeak constantly! I replaced all of the pulleys, and gave it a new belt, and it still squeaked! I put in a junkyard OEM compressor, and it was silent!
Good Day Ray!
I've actually had that same problem with the serpentine belt on a Ford Ranger 3.0 - the parts store belts were listed as fitting, but they were actually too short compared to the Motorcraft part. Based on the part number, they were 10 mm too short, but it felt it was almost a full inch. None of the parts stores carried a belt with the same length in that number of ribs. Always had to go to the dealership for the Motorcraft belt.
Your videos keep getting better and better. The delivery and production and all focused on a good experience for the viewer.

Converted an a/c system from R12 to 134a on a 91 crown Vic years ago and everything went smoothly until I tried the new serpentine belt. Lots of cussing didn’t work so I went to Ford and bought a belt and returned the aftermarket one. Belt was short but a little more than a millimeter. Sometimes it’s just something to piss you off enough and make your day. Thought about doing exactly what you did but like I said Ray, more than a mm. I was afraid I’d cause the tensioner or one of the bearings on other units to squeal and wear out. Nice job.
Dont impact studs into the compressor. Thats how you break the compressor housing when the stud bottoms out
