From their first date, Tina and Orion knew they wanted to start a farm together - and their success is nothing short of inspirational. Their dedication, resourcefulness, and commitment to the land attracted the attention of country music superstar Willie Nelson (because Willie’s wife Annie scouted Tina and Orion for 4 years), and together they’re working to convert Luck Ranch - over 500 acres of sprawling ranchland - into a world-class regenerative ranch. Dreaming of starting your own farm? This is a story to inspire you!
For the last ten years, Peter Byck has been lucky enough to film innovated farmers who are dedicated to healing our soils and rural communities. This series of short films is called Carbon Cowboys. Carbon Cowboy Conversations is a way to have short convos with even more farmers and ranchers working on getting themselves out of debt, and their land into health.
Since the spring of 2023, we’ve been touring the country sharing the science and stories that cement AMP Grazing as a key strategy to improve the lives of American farmers and heal the land - all told in our 4-part docu-series, Roots So Deep (you can see the devil down there).
Peter Byck was born and raised in Louisville, KY. The farmers he’s filmed, from all over the US, Canada and the UK, are more than characters on a screen or statistics in a peer-reviewed paper.. These farmers are friends and family. And we’re ready to fight for them to have a better future. Because - when the farmers have a better future, a more productive and profitable future, we all benefit - with clean air, clean water and nutrient-dense food.

Never mind taking that left over hot bar food from grocery stores and bringing it to homeless shelters where it could be refrigerated and reheated the next day and be fed to homeless people. Hey... why not just compost uncooked produce that also gets thrown out when it's still good and use that for your material instead? Save prepped food for hungry people tummies.

For health code reasons, many places don't allow you to donate food that has sat out in a buffet-type situation or have sat as "leftovers" for too long for human consumption. The food used for animals in this case would otherwise go directly to landfills.

I thought based on the thumbnail that this was going to be about building partnerships with animals, as this entire system is resting on their backs. But how can you consider something you exploit for its flesh as a partner? In reality, this is still just about the narcissistic exploitation of conscious beings, all because their bodies taste good. Until we are willing to stop such horrific practices, we deserve the dystopia coming for us. We've earned it through our lack of compassion (while ironically naming ourselves humanity, the compassionate species lol)

Farmers are going to farm. These guys are just making it more humane. You are living in a fantasy of you expect everyone to give up meat.

@evilpat9849 how does this make it more "humane?" Humane means compassionate. In what way is raising animals as food to be slaughtered well before their natural age of death compassionate? I have nothing against farmers farming. I think that's great. The question is WHAT they are farming. They don't have to farm innocent creatures with brains. They can farm mushrooms or plants and be just as prosperous and helpful at feeding us. Yes, going vegan overnight as a planet is a fantasy. But it's not a fantasy to think humanity will actually make the HUMANE choice one day. That's what we did with slavery, is it not? If you had tried to tell a plantation owner that we'd abolish owning people, they'd also say you loved in a fantasy. But where did we choose to go? This isn't any different. We were once one way, now we're another. It's that simple. I ran a BBQ for a decade and cut up the bodies of thousands of tortured animals throughout that career, and now I'm vegan. If I could do it, being so indoctrinated at one point, who's to say that anyone else can't? For others, it's probably even easier to change than it was for me....
