Partial building collapse in Davenport, Iowa leaves community desperate for answers
After parts of a historic, 84-unit apartment building crashed down on Sunday evening, concerns are growing over its structural integrity. Officials say they’ve exhaustively checked the rubble and have stopped looking for survivors. NBC News’ Shaquille Brewster reports on one family’s ongoing search for their relative.

This is the story you need to be covering! A neglected building collapses in Davenport, IA (despite multiple complaints by its residents to the city about it being unsafe). A very nominal search is conducted and then called off after just 24 hrs with the city declaring that there are no more indications of life inside despite family members insisting that their relatives ARE inside & living pets are visible in the windows. The city announces a demolition in the morning and between the search being called off and the scheduled demolition, a woman named Lisa Brooks wakes up from either being knocked out or passed out from the gas leak and rescues HERSELF by waving & calling to the crowd from her window in the building. The city doesn’t respond by delaying the demolition. Instead the city responds by moving the demolition time up even sooner (presumably to avoid protests). People protest through the night and the city delays the demolition by one day despite at least 2 humans still missing and an unmoved/unsorted pile of rubble sitting untouched on the ground. The demolition is scheduled to occur tomorrow morning. This is your story to cover.

People see owning an apartment building as a great way to make passive income, so they buy up these rickety old buildings and cram as many people in as they can and charge exorbitant rents. @@alanhorton7300 That ain’t an excuse. When a property of this size is not professionally managed and maintained by a team of professional managers and lawyers, it becomes nothing but a liability. In California, properties with more than 10 units are required to have a manager on site even. The owners must have thought they can save 15 to 20 percent by doing it themselves. Absolute amateur. Managing properties is a profession by itself. Now they are on the hook for the damages and lawsuits. In the end, this will destroy everything they had. Some idiots from overseas with money come in to purchase these properties thinking they need to make money right away. It just doesn’t work that way. Not to defend them if wrongdoing happened, but sometimes old buildings like these have inaccurate or incomplete schematics, or someone decades ago could have falsified certain inspections before they even owned the building. Or not even falsified, sometimes inspections miss things. A condo building where my parents live was suddenly condemned after they attempted some retrofitting of balconies and further inspection showed structural integrity issues with the core building that were never documented by previous inspections. Attempting to demolish the building so quickly does feel like someone is trying to skirt liability though.

Demolition as early as tomorrow morning??? That building should be documented like a crime scene because it is. The lawyers of the deceased should have time to gather evidence against the owners of the building or whoever is responsible for this disaster. The owners should be criminally held accountable for manslaughter and any of applicable laws. And all offiicals that greenlit this building to still be lived in should also be held accountable too.
Looks like a very old building. When was it built? Wonder if there was some kind of unknown anamoly due to maybe unprecedented weather that might have shown up under the building? In Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo County, an anomaly that is going to be investigated showed up recently under an elementary school. Could be an ancient earthquake fault like, or an underground spring trying to feed itself into the nearby river. We have had years of drought, then unprecedented rains. New developments over the last few generations, especially if it is a spring and built when dry and probably not known about until last winters rains. Not sure if this might be the case in this situation.
