My Dad’s first new car was a ‘56 Buick Special. When I was young, we also had a ‘68 Skylark. Of course after the mid 60’s revival of the name! Even for a non GM guy, love the Buicks!

The 53 Skylark with built on a roadmaster chassis the 54 Skylark was built on the Century or Buick special chassis Jerry Mcdonough

Buick never called it "Roadmaster Skylark", just Skylark. In fact, the 54 was based on the Century, not the Roadmaster.

Thanks I owned one and you got it right. The 53 was a Roadmaster dolled up because it came out too late in the year. The 54 was on the smaller frame and was a total redesign. One per dealer as a show car.

The comment about the 54 skylark being built on the century is wrong and the 53 wheel base is 121 1/2" and the 54 was rounded up a half an inch ( which I learned the hard way) it's still 121 1/2" so the 53 Roadmaster Skylark And the 54 Skylark have the same wheelbase the only thing that makes it look bigger is that the 53 is more bulbous than the shoebox 54 Skylark

Thanks for the information, Arthur. We try very hard to get our research correct but we're human and once-in-a-while, make a mistake ;-). Thanks for watching and the nice comment. Kindness is appreciated.

No it is not wrong, the 54 really was based on the Century. The Special and Century had a 122 inch wheelbase that year. The 53 Roadmaster convertible had a 121.5 inch wheelbase, same as the Special, but was a wider heavier car. Perhaps Buick did round up the wheelbase size for 54. You might be right about that.

Great video! I owned a '54 Buick Riviera 2 dr. for 9 years back in the 70's and into the early 80's. It had just been re-upholstered and repainted (two tone blue) when I bought it in 1974. I had numerous compliments wherever I went. I remember the large steering wheel and the starter/gas pedal were pretty cool. However , the Dynaflo tranny went out two times and parts were extremely hard to find. I needed a pickup so I had to sell it. Another fond memory from my past.
