This video discusses the pay, demand, schedule, benefits, and more.

Thank you so much for this video - your channel is some of the only content I can find that gives me hope about work/life balance as a physician. I am applying to medical school this year after many years of feeling very torn about whether or not to take the step. I have known for a while that I want to work in the field of medicine, but also grew up with my mom being a family physician and have seen the vast toll that her work schedule has had on her health and my family. I'm sure I will work many years full-time but it is wonderful to hear that there can be ways to work a more normal schedule. I think it is amazing that you are doing this and your kids will grow up with a mom who is present and models taking care of herself.

I'm from a really rural community (200 people) so I never had a family doctor growing up. When I moved away for undergrad I had some health issues develop and I got a primary care doctor. It is just so amazing to feel like you have a professional who can help you navigate the many specialist that are involved in your care. It's just such an amazing feeling to know your primary care doc knows your history and is there for you and knows you personally... It's hard to explain.. but it's the most amazing thing! When you see specialist after specialist and you feel like they just don't know you and they don't know the whole picture of your health it can be really scary. After the 2 year guaranteed salary, based on your patient load now, do you think your income will change much? Great video! I’m still amazed you get 30 min f/up slots. So many of my FM friends have 15min maybe 20min per patient!

Yes! Everyone in my clinic gets 30 minute appointments! I don’t think I can go any faster than that. After the two years, you get paid based on time and/or complexity of patients ... and a bunch of other things I’m still not sure about. I do a lot of procedures and OMT so I assume I might make a little more - but that is just my guess ... I really have no idea yet 😭

Most female primary docs can’t handle the grueling full-time grind of family medicine. It’s actually more that 40hrs per week because you’re constantly connected to the inbox and call coverage. It’s why Japan doesn’t hire female med students. Most big companies also try to avoid hiring young women fresh out of residency because they know that 30y/o F is gonna call out 3 months for maternity in that first 2 years into the job. Not good for company productivity numbers, which is the bottom line that they’re after. No offense to you!
