Even Beyonce said Mariah was the reason she started singing. Today’s kids only know Mariah as this diva personality (which she does just for fun) or the queen of Christmas. People should know that she (dare I say, single-handedly) paved the way for the Pop/RnB x HipHop movement back then. Before Mariah and ODB did Fantasy, collaborations between a popstar and a rapper was not common! Y’all wouldn’t find a rapper being featured in a pop song nor a popstar being featured in an underground HipHop record if ODB and Mariah didn’t popularize it in 1995. Y’all wouldn’t be hearing all the 2000s singers who also tried to nail all the melismas and falsettos like Mariah, who then inspired your 2010s idols.. Y’all wouldn’t be hearing as much of all the heavy vocal layerings & harmonies structuring in the background in today’s music, if Mariah had not popularized the style. The list goes on. Mariah Carey’s footprint in the music industry is just super underrated.

One Sweet Day lasted in the charts far longer than We Belong Together, and All I Want for Christmas is her best selling single to date that keeps becoming a hit every year around Xmas time. It is the last modern Christmas classic. All her other iconic songs like Hero, Vision of Love, My All, Fantasy, One Sweet Day, Always Be My Baby, etc, were in the 90s. The 2000s, the only hits she had were Thank God I Found You, We Belong Together, Don't Forget About Us, and Touch My Body. Obsessed was okay too.

Mariah and Beyoncé love and respect each other. They are both legendary in their own right in two different lanes but there is no one for Mariah to do Verzuz with. The only person should battle with Mariah is Whitney and she’s no longer with us. Beyoncé and Rihanna can battle but they won’t and they shouldn’t, even if any of them do it, it will be a love fest of enjoying each other’s company…. They all respect each other and it’s just love! The thing about Mariah's catalogue is that she has top-charting hits and fan-favorite hits in all of her albums. People are obsessed with her before even her live performances. Her voice is so special, in her concerts, nobody sings along to listen to the totality of her diamond pipes. Bey, on the other hand, distinguishes herself with commercial hits and mind-boggling live performances. They are so different and mariah's studio catalogue is more dimensional. It's true that only Whitney would be an appropriate versus for Mariah caliber.

Whitney couldnt go against Mariah because she wasnt writing the songs. The difficulty going against Mariah is, she has been apart of so many parts of the business and excelled at those parts.

I think we should compare people of the same generations, Mariah is 10 years older than Beyonce, Beyonce's peers were little girls when Mariah burst onto the scene and was in her prime so i don't see how they could be compared, just like i feel comparing Beyonce to Rihanna or Adele is stupid.

I feel like Beyonce vs JLO( eventho Jlo is an horrible singer) should be compared because they both are performers, they both tried to establish the same kind of appeal and look on the market. They both are first and foremost performers eventho beyonce is wayyy wayyy superior in Singing. But when it comes to Mariah her bread butter is : writing music, vocals, arrangements and producing. She looks absolutely great but she never relied on her looks to be successful. When comparing artist one should look at what the attendees are looking for when they attend these artists concert. Unless you are Ben affleck, not a single person in their mind would attend a Jlo concert for her singing abilities. Also most people attends Beyonce concert for the show, the glitter, the dancing, the production rather than her vocals alone. When someone attend an MC concert, they go for pure vocals and her voice.
