In this four-part series we look at a quick and simple way to create an illustrated character set. The fourth step is to vectorize the image. Vectorizing provides a couple of advantages for these types of illustrations: masks some imperfections and able to output as SVG.
I use VectorMagic and save as 4X PNG. I don't find their SVG output to be that great for these images. They do offer vectorizer.ai (which is currently free during the beta) and that does a great job exporting to SVG.
