Part 4: Sierra Game Changer conclusion

Спорт

This is the final installment of this development for the Sierra Game Change 90gr for this particular 243. The accuracy dropped off and has not returned, the conclusion that i ended up on was that this rifle struggles to stabilize this bullet. That being said I still pan to develop a load for this using my long range varmint 243, the BC is so good on this bullet that I intend to use it for that application.
Anyway, this video details the process of searching for the culprit of accuracy degradation. Any comments are welcome and any suggestions on other potential white tail bullets let me know.

Nice sum up of everything, I really like that your conclusion was just that the rifle can't stabilize the bullet where many would of just said "This bullet is trash".

I dialed in my wife's 1-10 twist .243 with 100grain Gamechangers with H4350. They shot awesome once I reached the top of the pressure curve. I've ran into that quite a bit on slower twist barrels. Also I've found that the GCs are finicky in regards to seating depth.

@@pawild5594 1:8 should stabilize anything you can find. Work your way up and Don't be afraid to run them hot.

The twist rate on this 243 is 1:10, which is right on the edge of stability. It shot fine in warm weather but struggled in cold weather.

I know it's been a couple years since you've done this video, but I've heard good things about the 80gr barnes ttsx.

i would like to see this bullet revisited with h4895. For whitetail here in central pa, i have shot 85gr sierra gamekings in factory loaded federal premium for many years. in the last few years i couldnt find factory 85gr sierra hollowpoints, so i started reloading and have been using the same bullet. when i first saw the gamechangers they instantly had my interest i just havent gotmy hands on any yet.

Nosler has a 90 gr. ballistic tip that is made for hunting medium size game. You might want to give that a try.

I've run the Partitions in a 243, same issue with stability. This gun in particular has a problem, hopefully i can get a video on it soon...so busy with hunting right now it's hard to make videos...all i do is sleep...lol

Couldn't get Hornady ELDX 90grain to stabilize in my 1:10 .243. Berger VLD classic hunters, 95gr. working great with H4350. Best loads are max, 42-43grain.

I commented on the Part #3 vid.... not realizing that there was a part #4. Definitely not stabilizing the "Game Changer" bullet. You might have already found a combo that you like for deer; but both of my boys hunt deer with a 243, & although I've developed reduced recoil loads, we've had excellent success with the Sierra 85gr HPBT (p/n 1400 I believe).

Ya i bet you're right, I'm not going any higher with these loads. I actually found a problem with this rifle so I'm not doing anymore work with it until i get it fixed. Thanks for watching, I might be doing a video on this gun in the near future so stay tuned.

probably a 10 twist barrel which is probably to slow for the altitude you are at in PA, also might crank up the speed, might help

Wonder if you could get them to group by doing seating depth changes in 30 thousand increments?

Thats a pretty big jump you could jump over a good node and not even know it. Seems like it would take some luck to tune that way.

I'm just wondering if you could get it to stabilize by shortening it up a bunch

Quit throwing money into that rifle! Sell it is fast as you can! Life’s to short to spend to much time on a rifle that won’t shoot. Yes, you may find some combination that is acceptable but you will never be happy with it. We all come across these rifles from time to time and the trick is to quickly identify them and dump them.

I agree to a point, this rifle will never be sold but it could be rebarreled...
