Part 3 - Russell Brand Interview

Comedian Dawn French interviewing Comedian Russell Brand.
I'd recommend this interview to anyone who still thinks of him as "that annoying loud bloke from Big Brother". There's not much of his usual madness here. Instead, what you'll find is an amazingly detailed interview which provides insight into his comedy, his background and his life. It really broke down my perception of him when I first watched it. Fantastic interview.

Is it me or is this the most candid Russell has been in an interview?

I pause this interview every couple of minutes because Russell says something that resonates with me so much, or something that totally confuses me, that I need a few minutes to process it. I love him - it's good that he makes people think and challenges social conventions. The fact that through his addictions and all his problems, his desire to be successful was unwavering, just shows how much he deserves the success he's achieved.

I love how sincere he is. Also this part " ...but then you realise they are themselves, perfectly and beautifully in tune with what they are, so if you get in tune with what you are, you'll have it...ect." is a wonderful quote that I hope to keep in mind. The fact that he is so himself is why he's so unique and amazing, imo.

This is why I love him. Like I love his stand up and all that. But after reading his book and now watching this interview, it really just makes it even clearer of how brilliant and amazing he is. He has overcome so many obstacles in life, but never let's it hold him back. He learns from it and moves forward. Amazing.

"Don't judge yourself until you've done a hundred gigs". That's true for anything. I'm so critical of everything I do, but sometimes I just need to give myself time.

This is the kind of interview that I find hard to follow, not because it is in any way dull, boring, or confusing, but because it is so thought provoking. Something he says makes me think about something in my own life, and before I realise, the interview is 2 minutes further on and I need to rewind and watch the bit I missed.

it's true when you get into a mind set as an audience and as a comedian where you laugh so much that anything you say after that would please everyone because everything is funny. you become relaxed and open

How absolutely true. It's a proper job, when you're doing it properly, and it does take "another lifetime" to get any money out of your entertainment, comedy/music, trade. Almost to the point when you've given up.

There is a kind of man who, when you find out his past and inner person, will disgust and disappoint you. Russell Brand is the kind man who, when you find out his past and inner person, you can't stop wanting more.

What an odd perspective, PalminderKaur! What does that mean?! He IS what he is displaying. If you can display that kind of energy, on camera, answering questions that eloquently, you are that - that is what you are. Even if he were acting, which he clearly is not, then he is acting out an aspect of himself, which in turn means that he IS what he portrays. If that cynicism is all you can get out of this beautifully delivered eulogy of love and positive energy, I feel a little sorry for you.

LOL! Thank you for that PalminderKaur. It seems you have a unique perspective of the man. I don't think he portrays, or is trying to portray, being free of human frailty. The fact that he is an attention seeking 'shithead' (in his own words), a self-confessed sex addict and ex-junkie, with a very genuine desire to affirm the 'positive/spiritual' aspect of himself rather than the dark, wanky side of his personality is what makes him so endearing. We are none of us perfect.
