OMG ! It looks FAB A LOUS Sean! Thanks for those pictures. Fingers crossed there will be a space on the allotment soon and you can make new friends on the plot. The Bath Council "tip" has just opened a furniture& household section where they are selling off stuff that would otherwise have gone into the skips. Stupidly cheap prices.I wonder if other Councils are doing that too? Folk are even too lazy to donate to charity stores , they just dump stuff .

As for setting up a house about 10 years ago, I had basic things for one room then in the four months I got settled dining table fridge freezer, coffee table nest of tables etc via freecycle . People were helpful.

With regard to setting up a house cheaply, there is almost nothing that you can’t get second hand, I’m always amazed at people selling things that are practically new! Facebook marketplace, charity shops and household auctions. Auctions are particularly good for bits of furniture, with good useful items often being knocked down for a few pounds (chairs, tables, bookshelves, armchairs, fridge/freezers, washing machines - all sorts, even kitchen utensils, basically everything from house clearances). I’m almost as excited as you to follow this new adventure!

I actually think kitting out a new house cheaply would make for some good little videos. I have done it from charity shops before. I think the main thing is being happy with less. You don't need loads of bits of furniture all at once. Sort out a bed, chair, washing machine and you don't need much else at the start.

The Valley’s are calling you Sean what an adventures lie ahead. I usually go to my plot every week even in winter but the weather was so bad yesterday I didn’t go. It’s just so soggy and sad but there’s always something to do in the shed, greenhouse or poly tunnel 😃

Decent curtains at windows & over external doors keeps a lot of cold out & wastes less heat & are usually available for peanuts in charity shops. I've attached odd pieces of material on the back of curtains to make them thicker & winter here isn't as awful as it could be because of them.

You are in limbo land now Sean! Actually glad you are mentally in Wales now, it will soon come along. Fingers crossed the ducks all line up. I live alone, no real tips as I have never lived as an adult with anyone else. Just be frugal with everything. When I moved a cat I made a litter tray up and some food and water bowls and after a couple of days under the bed she came round and was fine.

We have moved a lot, initially with just $1000 in the bank and two children to Aus after being a student in the USA for 8 years. So setting up our first home was certainly on a tight budget. Make a list of what you need to function, kitchen, lounge, dining, bedroom, laundry. Then you can expand as time goes along. Look at all things related from floor to ceiling. Thats what i did and ticked off as item was found. All furniture bar the babies cot was second hand, here in Aus garage sales or private advertisements we found the best way in those days. Hubby hired a uhaul type truck and on one saturday (to save cost) we did the rounds of garage sales in a certain area. I made the curtains for all windows. And hey presto we were furnished. Not posh but comfy. Cutlery, china, pots and pans i bought new at kmart as cheaper than elsewhere. This was 1975 so far more options these days. As time went on we refurnished as and when we could with new items but that was over 18 years. Since then we have moved at least four times. These days we are lucky in being able to afford a removalists pack and move. But one piece of advice i would give is put all boxes marked with contents in the room they will be used. Keep tea and kettle at least a bowl a plate and set of cutlery in a small box marked so you can have a cuppa on arrival. Have one room if possible for putting boxes you are not opening for a while so that the space you are using is able to be tidy and comfortable. I have found facebook marketplace these days to be very good to sell items no longer required and not high prices. The buyer collects so that might be an issue with larger items. Op shops so so for furniture depending where you live. What i would suggest have a search of what second hand shops are in close vicinity to where you will live, do you know someone with a small truck. Have someone help lift heavy stuff dont try doing it all on your own. Will you have wardrobes provided, we used cheap portable hanging rail in our room in those long ago days, i hated it as messy and so happy when we could buy a cheap build it yourself wardrobe. Connecting to utilities is there a cost, be sure to have done before you move. Our last move into our current (was new) home we moved in pre Christmas and they had not had power turned on, luckily a semi detached and neighbour willingly gave us one power cord to her supply as it took six weeks to get it turned on. The developer had not had it approved. Luckily it was here and summer. But one cord allowed only the fridge and hotplate, so no running hot water. I think it might be different in the UK. Good luck i hope you have an answer soon, the waiting in limbo is the worst part.

If you’re renting a three or four bedroom house, take in a lodger, (best check with landlord thats ok), that’s what I did. I struck lucky with a person who was working away from home. Good luck with the move Sean. It's so annoying when you're in limbo and waiting for everything to come together. As for reducing bills, heat the room you're in, not the whole house. Gas is cheaper than electric. Facebook marketplace for furniture, they also advertise a man with a van who will go and pick up the furniture for you. If you have a British heart foundation charity shop near you, they also do nice furniture and they will deliver it for you too. A lot of the local tips have little shops near them where you can pick up rescued furniture etc for very little money. Id recommend getting yourself a little car too
