To be honest with you, this helps me understand just how amazing gasoline internal-combustion engines really are. Here in the video, we see how much metal it takes, just to make 10hp of mechanical power with a steam engine. And I'm sure it's a good boiler too, by the the way. We just need a lot of surface area, and therefore a lot of metal, to conduct all that heat from one fluid to another.

Efficiency of this old technology is only about 5 to 10 percent.on Small scale like 1 to 60 kw Best way to convert biomass and wood into electric power is internel combustion engine run on gasifier.I have a lot of biomass and going to make one like these but cancelled because piston steam engine is very rubish and stupid idea . Now I'm studying gasifier technology to make my 7 hp power plant

the boiler outlet pipes are not insulated , may be bcoz, it is just for testing (short time ) the guy seems too be an expert.

Yes, you have to add a condenser or a mechanical vapor compressor. You will lower your water and fuel usage a lot

Yes. But, would also need further input than that.... a 10kw steam power plant could run a 7kw steam generator(like for a spa/sauna)... I think the cool thing is when you consider it can create enough power to run its own control system that continues to monitor and feed fuels and even include battery storage and management systems. Automatic starting and priming while power systems run on battery backup. Oh, the possibilities... Maybe include all in a basement and have it ready and serving as a boiler system in the winter with relatively quick switching of power sources. But I digress.

By the amount of steam you turn on. More steam is faster less is slower.
