PART 1/2 - How to sound like Christopher Wolstenholme, from Muse, using 3 FTelettronica pedals
Музыка
Welcome back to the wetter bass!
PART 1/2: Chris, from the band Muse, is an amazing bass player that is never shy about using effects especially dirt pedals. Today we test 3 drive pedals from FTelettronica (PACHYDERM, AMIANTO and CRITICAL THEORY) to try as best as possible to copy Chris’s sound.
Enjoy the video!

In the mix, a completely distored and fat sounds very good. Totally different when the bass is alone. Crazy. Thank you for this great presentation.

Yes, but remembrer that in the original mix there’s plenty of low end punch from the clean signal.

@@thewetterbass Yes it's true. The mix of clean and distored sound is very important ;-)
Long time fan of your content, thank you very much. I would never expected you to be a admirer of Muse / Chris, I am happy to see he is appreciated! Muse is the reason I start d to play base guitar like 17 years ago! I am happy to see more from you. Cheers

Yes! Not a big fan of Matt’s voice but a big fan of the band and especially the bass.
Great job and nicely done! I really appreciate the in-depth homework you (must) go through. I smashed the LIKE. I’ll be a return customer

😂 yeah, we hear “bass distortion pedal with blend knob” and we go… ooooh sweet.
What I've heard is that Fuzz gets rid of the attack. You can't tell the difference between an upstroke and a downstrike with fuzz. That's what I heard anyway.
Good Job! I envy you for the setup! ( @FTelettronica can you hear me?

Hope I get to say “Wolstenholme” correctly next time… 😅
There is a before and an after the album absolution. Absolution was a pinnacle. Albums after that just made no sense to me

Absolution is my favorite too. But there are some incredible songs in the following albums too, imho. 😉
Anytime I’ve ever “added” distortion” I have always lost that rich regular bass tone. How does anyone get distortion and maintain that punch muse’s bassist has?

Hi! Basically it’s all about mixing the distorted signal (wet signal) with the clean signal (dry signal). For that you can use a blend pedal or split your bass signal into two that you’ll have to blend back together, or send the two signals to two different amps! The ideal solution is to have a clean compressed slightly boosted “dry” signal and one or more saturation (overdrive, distortion or fuzz) pedals for your “wet” signal. Hope this helps!!! 😊
For time is running out Chris uses a synth pedal it was the called “deep impact” now there’s other newer versions of it and more modern synth pedals he mixes it the synth and a fuzz and he gets rid of the note attack sound you said in this video

Oh so that’s how he does it! Thanks for your info. Will look into it.

That's not how get gets Time is running out sound. In the Studio it was the Roland JP8000, which he played alongside with a clean bass sound. Live, he used to play it the same way, playing alongside a synth track, until this was replaced when he added a Woolly Mammoth to his board, which is what he now uses.

@@thewetterbass These days, he used a Woolly Mammoth pedal, but the recording was a synth track performed on the Roland JP8000. The deep impact isn't used for this song.

@@pm8rsh233 all right! Thanks for the information I saw the deep impact in some KZread channel explaining Chris sound and I thought it was that but that channel was wrong and they made me wrong this whole time. Thank you 😄
About TIRO maybe there’s a touch of synth pedal??

For TIRO, I use a digitech bass synth wah into EHX big muff and it gets surprisingly close (for 2 cheap pedals). Only downside is that the digitech doesn’t have a volume knob, I wish I could dial it down a little more.
nice. maybe a bit thin though.

Hey man! There are so many tones you can get out of a muff! And besides sometimes less is more, so make the most out of what you have and enjoy it to its fullest!
I bought this Animato clown. Practically unusable because of the background noise.

Hi! So if you wrote “clown” on purpose, first of all brilliant, but second this is perhaps to affirm your discontent with the pedal. The Animato is a high gain / high mids distortion effect that tends to amplify all ground or hum problems in a signal chain. So make sure you are using a proper isolated power source for the pedal. Also I typically used this Animato with the dry blend quite high and gain quite low, then raising the volume to find a sweet spot between both signals. Hope this helps. Also, perhaps it could be too that your unit has a shielding or ground problem…
