Parrot Bebop 2 FPV Drone Flight Testing Review

For the best prices on the latest drones, visit B&H online at: bhpho.to/2tNu7m6
In this episode, the Roswell Flight Test Crew flies the Bebop 2 from Parrot. Before flight, the first step is to calibrate the aircraft compass, following the prompts provided by the Free Flight Pro app, which is available for both Android and iOS smartphones and tablets. Once calibration is complete, the app provides First-Person View (FPV) video and telemetry from the aircraft. The Bebop incorporates an auto-takeoff and auto-land feature, which is the only method to launch and recover the aircraft. Flight performance can be adjusted using the app while the aircraft is flying. The crew also tests the Bebop's digital image stabilization, which provides gimbal-like performance while capturing aerial video. The episode concludes with a flight endurance test.

A great drone! I have crashed mine multiple times and even had the battery run out over water and got an awesome shot of it going underwater. Two days drying off and it was flying perfectly again. Great camera!

You can transfer the videos and photos to the smartphone or tablet that is connected to the drone directly through the app after flying. It is not mandatory to connect it to the computer.

Yes it is a lot of fun to fly bebop. It also takes great 1080 videos. It is unfortunately underestimated because of competitors' aggressive advertisements. Overall great drone and wind fighter and the price makes it a steal 😀 thanks again for your work sir.

Hit the land button when its 3 feet off the ground and it will make a softer landing. The propellers don't shut off immediately they give it to soft landing you can even do it for much higher.

He is right about the 10% warning problem. I was flying above 40m using the follow feature. I lost track of the battery percentage because of its great follow feature (at night) and suddenly i got the warning and before i can do anything it landed itself. Fortunately it landed over land

I have the BEBOP 2 Power. I'm very happy with it. It can be so docile a newborn can handle it easily or be fairly sporty. The camera is very good for the casual flyer. The IS a hack to add a lot of memory to camera. It's cheap but a bit of a pain. This is also quite durable I actually prefer the original sky controller remote for it over the newer smaller remote.

Have you ever loss one or more of your propellers on your bebop 2 drone? I HAVE SEVERAL TIME! Usually on a hard landing. It is frustrating and shouldn't happen but it does. Well here is the product that is a solution to preventing that from happening again. These Bebop 2 Propeller Plugs are easy to install and works great. Just using your figures, mainly your tum, press Bebop 2 Propeller Plugs into the larger propeller holes. They lock the propellers in place and will not let them unlock. I haven't loss a propeller since installing the Bebop 2 Propeller Plugs. You can find them on ebay, just search for “bebop 2 propeller plug”.

I thought that the bebop 2 has indeed a camera that can move up and down. A gimbal is just meant to absorb sudden movement and correct the position of the craft, isn't it?

Thanks for the video and review! At it's current price one of the best drones to be had, imho. I also own a Mavic Pro, Phantom 3 std, DJI Flamewheel, Hubsan H501S, JYU Hornet w/gimbal, and a number of others. If you own a Skycontroller 1, which is great, you can buy this new for $299.00. Almost 3 times the flight time of the Spark.

Thanks for the feedback! As to the range test, we don't generally do those because it would likely put us into a Beyond Visual Line of Sight situation which, of course, isn't permitted under the FAA's current Part 107 rules -- and we don't want to violate those ourselves or encourage other people to, either. Flight modes -- we obviously tinkered with the various settings in terms of aircraft performance, but I wasn't aware the Bebop 2 had discrete flight modes (like DJI's "Sport" mode, for example). I guess the nearest competitor price wise would be the DJI Spark, but I haven't flown it yet so I couldn't say. Nevertheless, all excellent points! Thank you!

I have a Bebop 2 Goggle question for you. I have my Bebop 2 video settings on maximum quality, however, when I use my cell phone inside the googles while in flight, I notice that the views look pixated , as in low resolution. Would this be due to the 1280 x 720 pixel display on the cell phone or is it the Googles itself, regardless if upgraded to another old cell phone with a better resolution screen. The videos themselves look fine on my computer monitor , but not to great when in flight through the goggles. Thanks for your insight on this.

I do have a couple/several questions. 1. I have a good size yard, over an Acre of fly space. I do NOT want to end up in a neightbors yard. So, I would like to start by setting up a series of "way points" but then make them describle a GeoFense! 2. I have a couple of Parrot products. BUT my right eye is now almost useless so normal Goggles like my Fat Sharks don''t work for me now. SO I am using a "knockoff" of the Viper Periscope style Googles so I can use a cell phone. This is fantastic. and what is really nice I can look at the FPV and down at the Controller. I want to have a "second" Wifi Phone mounted on the Transmitter, so I can change things like Camera setting etc. etc. QUEASTION - how do you have two Wifi / Monitors connected to the Parrot Bebop 2 ( I have tired small USB hubs etc. - no luck? Any idea's appreciated. richard@rlstuart.com

Looking at your footage, I'd say, and this is my opinion, most drone reviews never go deep into details about how to get into smooth flying shots, most either fly fast or make quick turns which makes it messy. Drones like Bebop are meant to capture exceptional footage, cinematic. Most reviewers just want to show a review and quickly get done. Otherwise great review though.

The whole, you can't manually land it-thing, we just need to get over it. It's not a thing. Lands a little harshly, agreed... But let's be honest, Parrot has now severely reduced the amount of crashes while trying to land.

Thought so to until I bought one and found out just how capable it is over a DJI toy. The software for it is way more capable than anything DJI has on a drone less than a P4P

The last DJI phantom i brought was a PH2 which i thought was good but way to easy to fly, which took all the fun out of it for me,yeah i know they are a made like that for the flying stability for camera shots and such,i kept it for a year or so because the missus enjoyed flying it,once she got board of it i sold it. ;-)

Nick Walters it has a digital gimbal... the video sensor is a 14Mpixels, and it extracts from it 1080p (up to 30 degrees, down to 90, left and right around 60... pan and tilt).
