I just bought one today from Lidl UK @£24.99 and it is quite a good value in my opinion. Good review, and I like that you compared it to your fathers. My other helmet is nearly 40 years old and is a lot heavier than this new Lidl one, so a vast improvement for me.

Thank you for the no BS review !!! So much quicker and easily absorbed than the manual! The battery lid on my helmet self destructed on day one , but that´s a minor inconvenience . The headband and it´s adjustments are a lot better than on my Stanley helmet , but on the other hand the helmet is heavier...... For an amateur like myself I guess I can live with that.
