Parkinson's B1 therapy protocol (High Dose Thiamine): an interview with Daphne Bryan

Ғылым және технология

In this interview on Parkinson's B1 therapy protocol, Daphne recounts her story when she started B1 therapy and uses that as an opportunity of giving some key messages on how to decide which dose of thiamine to take, how to notice signs of improvement, the no-role of lab tests, the role of B1 therapy as an adjunct therapy, the need to continue current therapy, including levodopa, and finally her neurologist’s attitude towards her symptom improvements and B1 therapy. Wonderful in every way! Thank you both so very much! I agree that our physicians’ hands are tied, and they are being led around by the pharmaceutical companies/governments. I am starting a B1 regimen tomorrow for a whole group of symptoms and am passing this information along to friends and family. God bless you both!

I use benfotiamine and L-tyrosine with my morning coffee made with cream so the fat helps absorption. So many health issues have improved since. B1 therapy will increase your need for other B group vitamins so I use a good high potency B complex supp. Tyrosine is a major component of dopamine and thyroxin. You need vit B6 for all transamination processes.

EFSA (The European Food Safety Authority) has just last May lowered the Tolerable Upper Intake Limit from 25 to 12 mg/day. This is the max level below which no adverse effects have been reported or which is unlikely to pose risks to health with chronic use for almost all individuals in the population. Pyridoxine (B6) is a cofactor ("helper") of the peripheral conversion (decarboxylation) of levodopa into dopamine, making in this way less levodopa available to cross the Blood-Brain Barrier (BBB). People taking just levodopa (e.g. Mucuna pruriens) should limit their daily intake of B6 to less than 5 mg. This does not apply to those who take levodopa with carbidopa or benserazide, which inhibit the decarboxylation (peripheral conversion) of levodopa into dopamine.

If she could tell us which Thiamine ( B 1 ) she is taking and the exact dosage, that would be of great help. Benfotiomine is a fat soluable Vit B 1 which gets absorbed quicker.

Understand your point, as using vitamins at pharmacological doses - like medicines - is a new concept. Medical advice can only be given by health professionals, more so in the presence of other medical conditions and intake of other supplements or medicines.

Thank you. I have Dr Bryan's book and looking forward to starting the B1 therapy. I intend to do the B1 Thiamine HCL. I really hope it helps me and will be patient. I am concerned my parkinson came from a drug I took for a year and a half called Reglan. So I sure hope that the therapy will still work for me. I also have neuropathy in my feet and going up my legs, so that weighs on me too. I would appreciate any info you might be aware of with the B1 therapy and drug induced parkinsons and neuropathy. Thank you very much.

You may find additional information on our website b1parkinsons.org and may wish to join facebook.com/groups/parkinsonsb1therapy for more detailed information on b1 in Parkinson's. Neuropathy in Parkinson's is rather a common finding and is often due to vitamin b12 deficiency (see also my presentation on b12 screening in b1 therapy on this youtube channel). Your health care provider has certainly checked about that, as the condition may be reversible if treated promptly. This is provided for information only. Consult with your physician.

Neurologist don't want to loose their customers by prescribing vitamin. Dose of vitamin B1, thiamine depends on what you eat and drink, your profession and also your nature. I am civil engineer, require to use memory, tact etc brain releted function. So, I need more B1. Again when was drinking tea thrice a day with refine sugar, B1 requirement increased tremodously. Earlier I was fabricator where, Zinc smoke generated due to welding, which deplete B1. I eat polished rice, means no B1 in it.

The use of b1 (thiamine) in Parkinson's is still rather unknown to many neurologists, as it has been tested and reported only in a few case reports and an open label study, despite pre-clinical and clinical studies have been conducted in thiamine deficiency and other conditions, providing evidence for its effectiveness in those conditions. Nutrition is also an area underrepresented in medical studies in many school curricula, although the number of trials testing B vitamins in Parkinson's with encouraging results has been increasing in recent years. It is utilized especially in Naturopathic Medicine. There is currently a lack of a randomized, double-blinded, placebo control trial (RCT), which is considered the gold standard in research in medicine. The study has been planned but is waiting for fund-raising to reach the needed amount to be conducted.

I have a book on vitamin minerals and amino acids. In which in short, but every information about vitamin till 2000 is there. It is very true. I tested it many times. I have skin disease from last 2.5 years, which is now almost cure. I took ayurvedic medicine, Unani medicine and there is certain relief, but not 100%. Due to unavailability of brown rice, I choose to take thiamine tablet. Speed of cure is improved. Reason I found is, if there is thiamine defeciency, then body produces thiamine from sulphur and or silicon. Therefore, there is likely defeciency of these two, which result in skin diseases. It is mentioned in that book.
