PARKING ASSIST on your Mercedes Benz (2013 to Mid 2020)

Фильм және анимация

Have you ever used parking assist before on your Mercedes-Benz? If you haven’t, it’s super easy!
I’ve compiled this short video showing you how to activate it and use it to help with parking in bay parking or parallel parking.
Please always be aware of your surroundings and observe the system as it assists YOU during the manoeuvre. You can cancel at anytime by grabbing and moving the steering wheel.
*UPDATE*
Please note Active Parking Assist parking assist has been removed from certain new models from approx 2020 onwards (pre built models and old models will be unaffected). This is due to the new United Nations regulation (UN-R-79). This basically requires systems like this to have a hands on / hands off sensor to detect if you have your hands on the steering wheel or not. I'm sure Mercedes-Benz are working hard on this for future models in years to come but will not be available on new cars until further notice. Speak to your local dealership to clarify on further details.

    Could you do a video on remote parking? Also since you're friendly with your mercedrs dealer can you get any info on the software update recall, I'm reading negative implications on fuel economy and performance after the update

    Hi David, I would love to do a remote parking assist video but only a couple of models have it. I don’t think Mercedes-Benz of Poole have had one for a long time to be honest. If they do get one, I might consider it! Really sorry, I’m not given much info on recalls etc Have you spoken to the service advisor who looked after you on the day? Just wondering if they knew / might be able to help?

    Hi Nick, can you clarify this please? I took delivery of my new GLC 220d AMG Line Premium last week and for the life of me I can’t get this parking assist to work. On watching your video I think it maybe because I was trying to use it without being between two cars. However, this comment has thrown me a little. I have the parking button as per your second car in this video but does it mean mine could be deactivated?

  • @npoleary

    @npoleary

    3 жыл бұрын

    It’s not a case of being deactivated, it literally won’t be on the car...but...it’s rolling out now so your Mercedes-Benz might still have it. When you press the P button, does it come up with scanning for spaces on your car screen?

    Hey Phil, thank you glad you like the content! Oh yes in 2019 / early 2020 United Nations Regulations came into affect that stipulated the use of hands on / hands off sensors in steering wheels if it had an Active Parking Assist system. Sadly because this law was written at such short notice, manufacturers had little choice but to just not install this at factory level. There are only a couple of models in the Mercedes range that have the hardware and comply with the newly introduced regulations which means those models can offer the active park assist system, one of which is the E-Class. I’m sure Mercedes are working on something for future model releases!

    Hi Piya Smutkochorn, Very nice! Love the hybrids and their silent drive in E-MODE. The LIM switch is for the Limiter. Unlike cruise control which keeps you at the same speed, a limiter will stop you going above a certain speed. They’re brilliant for speed cameras, say it’s 50mph, you can set it to 50mph and it will not let you speed or go above that. When you’re done just press CNCL to cancel. Hope this helps! 👍🏼

    Hi Nick, great videos! Thank you for being so thorough. Quick question - is there any way to adjust the distance the car parks from the curb when parallel parking? My 2017 C220d kept a great distance, about 3-4 inches from the curb, but my new 2019 C300 parks a mile away from the curb. The new car has a single outer guideline on each side of the tyre lines on the screen which it lines up to, whereas the old car perhaps didn't have side sensors and therefore only showed the tyre lines. Any tips? Thanks!

  • @npoleary

    @npoleary

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hey Paddy W, thank you! The system parks you at a set distance based on how others have parked. So if the other two cars are fairly close to the kerb then it may park you close too. As it uses ultrasound it can only work on the objects that are there at that current time so sadly you can’t adjust any parameters on it.

    Thank you Nick O'Leary for making this video. I'm very excited to try it out today on my 2016 GLC300 4Matic that I brought a couple years ago. I'm having some issues with other things that should work but don't. I refuse to go back to the Mercedes dealership. I took it in when I discovered the trunk failed to open with the hands free foot swipe motion. Those SOBs charged me $86 to tell me that yes the year/model of my car has this feature however only the vehicles produced in the latter part of that year. 🤦‍♀️ (All they had to do was read the manufacture month/year off the label located inside of the driver's door. Bloody crooks!)

    Hi Nick, thanks for such a clear demo. I have a 2017 GLE 500e and often it seems to be a bit hit or miss whether or not the system recognises a suitable parking space. I get that the speed has to be under a certain number, but is there also a recommended distance I need to be away from the back of the cars on either side? Also, the Parking Active Assist manual on the GLE tells me I can use the system to exit a parking space as well, but I've never been able to get this to work (not that I really need it!). Can I assume that's because I might be too close to the cars on either side?

  • @npoleary

    @npoleary

    4 жыл бұрын

    Hi ozodyssey, Yes the parking assist system scans for spaces under 20mph but I have found it is more accurate at lower speeds. Not really, I haven't seen an actual measurement for how far away when actually looking for a space, usually just a close as you can ideally. With getting the car out of the space, it only works for parallel parking spaces and yes there does have to be adequate space either side just in case one of the other cars had moved.

But the question I have is related to another subject. Do you know if it is possible to update COMMAND (actually, the software behind it) to use Remote Start on the Mercedes me app? Or the folding side mirrors when parked? Please advise.

I have a c43 cab the last of the old model. been driving it for 4 months extensively, noticed though that Park Assist do work well but if you need to parallel park on say a busy street, I find that its faster to do it manually (as long as youre obviously do not get nervy when a few cars are now waiting behind you and the space isn't so tight) . I find that I can spot the space well before the computer can. im sure it'll get better and better when eventually its all level 3 or 4. thanks again Nick!

The only two small points you did'nt mention was how on the old / classic system you need to have the indicator stalk up (ie indicating right) if looking for a space on the offside / opposite side of the road in the UK. The other point is that it can help you exit tight spots as well. Thanks again.

    It was removed to comply with the new law that came into effect. All manufacturers are affected by this so it’s not just Mercedes. I’m sure it’ll be implemented on future models when Mercedes have designed their own.

Although If it’s the same system as it used to be when I last used it, make sure you drive past the space further. When you press the P Button and it scans the spaces, keeping driving past the space. If you don’t go far enough the only manoeuvre it can achieve is the forward one. Just drive a few more meters forward and it should do it 🤓

You can check this via the factory spec sheet or in the car go to "Settings, Assistance, Parking, and as long as you have it you'll see Remote Parking in there somewhere. Just click onto the menu and download the app from the App Store called "Remote Parking" and follow all of the steps. Hi Nick, will the parking assist work in this situation. My double garage has a centre pillar with two doors, but the centre pillar is only about 18inches thick. My wife will not try to put the car into the garage as there is only about four inches space either side, so leaves it down to me to put the car away each time she uses it. The issue I imagine is that once the front censor has got past the central pillar the system will either stop working and sound the alarm bleep or it will veer off trying to centralise itself with the new width of the garage.

    Hmmm tricky one to be honest as you have to be able to drive past the space to scan it. And also if there’s only 4” either side, the car may refuse to manoeuvre in as it’ll think it’s too close.
