I thought this was going to be a laser that tracks when the vehicle crosses the laser, then sounding an audible sound or a laser light back to the dash area or on the wall in front of you. This is simply a laser light at a spot you choose on the dash. I can see my wife not always stopping on the desired spot. To me, this product is not worth the time, effort, or money. But thumbs up on a well-produced video sir.

I love how many people talk about how bad a driver their spouse is, or have to mention how "good" they themselves are... You know it's not just about being bad at gaging your distance but simply an additional safety measure because accidents do happens under so many different circumstances. For those who proudly feel the need to say they do not need one, good for you, but no one cares; this is just an instructional video!... :)

I have used a tennis ball attached to a fishing line where the other end of the line is attached to a small screw in the ceiling. I like using clear fishing line to dangle the ball. I place the ball where it will align with the center of the steering wheel and touch the windshield where I want the car/truck to stop. I use a safety pin to attach the line to the tennis ball. You can also use a ping pong ball, golf ball, or some other small ball. You can use crazy glue/super glue or a screw for the ping pong ball or golf ball.

Another thing to consider about with respect to the battery backup is that if the power is out, your garage door opener is not going to be working anyway, so you might not be opening (or closing) your garage door anyway unless you use the manual bypass on the garage door opener. We recently had a power outage for a few hours and I realized that *if* I had needed to go somewhere, it might be a bit inconvenient since I had stored some spare wheels / tires in the area by the small door leading from the breezeway into the garage (since I never use that door and instead just go through the main garage door each time. There's no way that I would be opening that door with four 275-65R20 tires and wheels stored there. In a pinch, I could try snaking a wire rod between the top of the garage door and see if I can catch the manual bypass for the track system or if it was a real emergency, it would not be difficult to bust a hole through the siding since it is Hardi-Plank and go in that way. Looks like I need to reconsider my storage location for my spare tires/wheels. :)

This is perfect for the person that has zero feel for gauging distance, and there are plenty of you out there. I’m parking my Harley in front of the wife’s car and this will help her from hitting my bike. Hopefully! I bought a version named xtreme with a single laser one for each side $13.50 each. To early to tell you how long they will last and if they can take extreme cold weather. Stay tuned.

Considering how many times my wife has "parked by feel" over the years, I would never put my Harley on her side of the garage. When I had a pickup, it would not even fit in the garage unless I removed the trailer hitch and EVERYTHING along the back wall. As such, it always was parked outside and my Harley took up my side of the garage. If your wife has trouble gauging distance, the best bet is probably a physical barrier that stops the wheels. The tennis ball on a string method works well enough for my wife, but I positioned it so that after she hits it, there's still another foot to go before she hits anything near the back wall. I do not trust her parking ability.

I use a small Brick!!, .....Once I line my car up in the perfect spot I want it in, ....I put a small brick in under the front tyres (either both tyres or just one) so I know when im driving the car into the garage once my wheels feels that ...you know to stop!...(Has the perfect distance front & back).... . (Drive in slow ...you could do it fast youll still feel the brick hit on your front wheels)...... I use a line on the garage floor to line my car up so i know how far to the side i need to be in order to fit the other 2 cars in also. .......much easier than installing anything.... just a brick and lines easy!

if you use this device closer to a corner of your garage (instead of in the middle of it) you can direct one laser through to the middle rear screen or front screen depending on whether you drive in or reverse into your garage, and the other to an edge of your vehicles dashboard/parcel shelf. (wish I had a diagram to upload here)

When the laser come up your car you can tell if you are centered or not but you could install a second unit that could point more out the garage to maybe hit a mirror or something to help you line up your vehicle side to side or mark where the center or edge of you tire should be.

There are some laser modules that will display a line instead of a dot. Current price on eBay is around $1.50. You would just need to adapt a power supply to work with it. Maybe an old cell phone charger that has a non-USB power connector could be reused and wired into it. www.ebay.com/itm/9mm-X-23MM-DC-3V-650nm-5mW-Brass-Line-Laser-Dot-Diode-Module-Head-Red-Light/392755310408 You could line this up so that the laser line points directly down the middle of your vehicle and you might have enough of an indication to get it aligned. If not, then you could reuse the module pointing it across the garage to give you a line to not pull past instead of just a dot. If someone has trouble lining up with the entrance to a garage for some reason, one method might be a mechanism similar to what is use on the VASI for landing aircraft. Although the VASI system is for adjusting your vertical angle to the runway and not the horizontal, if you used something similar, but oriented on its side, it would give you the horizontal funneling in to the destination point (i.e. garage). For example, if you put a light at the end of a section of pipe, if you can see the light while driving towards it, you are directly in line with it. That might work for a single height driver and single height vehicle combined with a driveway that is perfectly level with the garage floor, but I suspect that most people don't have that sort of driveway. Realistically, we aren't concerned with the vertical angle since the vehicle is sitting on the ground and except for a few vehicles out there, they cannot adjust their ride height anyway nor are they tall enough that the driver might need to lower the vehicle to get in the garage. So, instead of a light in a piece of pipe, putting the light between two vertical sheets / boards might be a better solution . The boards would be close enough together that you could only see the light if you were lined up with within a couple of degrees. As you got closer to the garage, although the angle stays the same, the distance across the arc would decrease and you would be funneled in towards the light. If you wanted to do this with in a non-electrical manner, you could hang 2 tennis balls in your garage, aligned with the driver's seating position, one a few feet behind the other one. As the driver drives towards the garage, he positions the car so that the two balls are aligned so that he can only see one (or one is directly over / under the other if the garage and driveway have varying levels). This would be similar to using a bead sight on a shotgun. In my particular situation though, I only have to worry about my wife hitting things, so I store stuff so that as long as she manages to not hit her mirror on the side of the garage door opening, she is not going to hit anything that is stored along the walls of the garage. It might be a tight fit (i.e. if someone wants to get in the passenger door, they need to wait until the car is out of the garage), but it works for us. Even if there wasn't anything stored on the side of the garage, the damn builder did not make it large enough to open a car door anyway. Personally, I think there should be at least 3 ft between the edge of the garage door and the wall of the garage and a single garage door should be at least 10 ft wide, although 12 ft wide would be even better. Even if I don't have a Hummer H1, I would want my garage big enough to be able to park one, just in case. :)

It's easy to see if the laser dot is too far to the left or right -- of where it should be. I use something similar. DIY, with cheap 5V lasers from eBay. Powered by an old USB power adapter plugged into the bulb socket of my garage door opener (via bulb socket to outlet adapter). Turns on when I open the door, and shuts off automatically after ~5 min.

This laser only provides guidance as to how far into the garage to park so that the garage door will not hit the back end of the car. How about a guide that maintains a safe distance on the side of your car so you don't take your side mirrors off.
