I like the brand Saint James (also designed and made in France) for my Breton tops, or more properly called, Marinieres. They don’t have any synthetics, just cotton or wool. But, they run small in the bust and big in the shoulders, they have a mannish cut, and must never go in the dryer! Almost every other Breton top sold here in the US has Spandex, which I hate.

One thing I’ve noticed about chic French style is that most garments are neither tight, nor baggy and oversized. Fit is key, as is fabric/material choice. Detail is usually restrained. French women are much more likely to buy natural fiber-fabrics and genuine leather goods. Some of my favorite brands are French - Sezane, Equipment and M.M la Fleur, especially. In French style, it’s not about trends, it’s about timelessness. Yes, the French do fashion better, as they do most things! Neither aesthetics nor intrinsic quality are neglected in French culture. Thanks for your take on French style❤

The weather is so hot today

Don’t forget silk, my favorite fabric of all! It might be a little warm for hot weather, but it’s practically all I wear as a first layer the other three seasons. It’s a bit addicting, especially for someone like me who has hyper-sensitive skin. Viscose/rayon are “manmade cellulosic fibers”, much better than any synthetic because they’re breathable. I like these fabrics a lot, depending on quality. The very thin, cheap, fast-fashion versions pucker, don’t iron well and are limp. Thicker versions are much nicer, but all are breathable, which is critical for me. The selection in silk is always limited, so viscose/rayon is my alternative if I can’t find what I want in silk. I also love linen and cotton, but cotton is too hot for me in summer. Winter dresses and sweaters - cashmere forever!
