Paris Brest Paris 2023 - Amazing experience - 68hrs 37min

Спорт

PBP 2023 is a 1200km audax put on by Audax Club Parisien, held only every 4 years. It is one of the oldest long-distance cycling events that still exists today and attracts cyclists from all over the world. The aim is to complete the 1200km event which is unsupported in under 90 hours.
Thank you to ‪@adamwatkins‬ for all the support leading up to this event. Check out his channel to see our qualifying events and other audax events.

    I had practiced a lot with using carb energy drink throughout the qualifying events. I used to get alot of bloating on rides longer than 200k so I decided to strip it back to 1 fuel source only (carb drink). Once I knew that worked I could start adding in more items. For PBP I used Torq products and had with me 14 energy drink sachets, 14 torq flapjacks and 14 torq gels. This got me through until about 100k to go. I practiced and dialled in my fueling strategy well before the event so I knew it would be ok for me. Check out my video on what to eat on a long ride too. Hope that helps.

    Excellent presentation and my compliments on one of the most beautiful bikes and stylish bike setups I’ve seen. I found the choice of a gravel bike extremely interesting. If I may ask, what groupset, gear combination, tire choice, and tire size did you select? I’m buying a new bike currently and am interested in your selections. Thank You

  • @tricoachmalc8266

    @tricoachmalc8266

    Thank you. I chose a gravel bike as I also wanted to do some gravel events too, they are well setup for bikepacking and Audax events. My Cervelo has GRX di2, 48/31 front and 11/34 rear gearing which is a great range for faster sections and getting up climbs with a heavy bike. I had 32mm continental 4 seasons for a bit more comfort. Only thing I would change would be the TT bars, my back was hurting from them being setup too low.

    @@tricoachmalc8266 Thank you so much. I’m in my 60’s and am looking for an all around, pretty much, do it all bike and am considering a gravel bike, then replacing the tires with more of a road tread. I appreciate your response and again my compliments on your bike and especially your accomplishment.

    You need to complete qualifying events the year of PBP. This involves completing a 200k, 300k, 400k and a 600k Audax. Then there is a pre registration stage, registration period and finally you get a place. PBP is also only on every 4 years so the next edition will be 2027.
