you don’t wanna be ‘gifted’ it’s not all fun and praise. I was in the 99th percentile in my old county and went to a ‘gifted’ school. When we moved i skipped a grade and took honors classes. When your ‘gifted’ people are amazed, that amazement soon because normal and then become expectation. Soon enough anything lower than perfect isn’t good enough, leaving you feeling worthless. Eventually it’s too much and you break, people are shocked and you get a lot of “what happened? you were so talented”. Haha ig this kinda turned into a vent sorry about that. But I guess the point is just be happy how you are, don’t wish to be someone your not(especially when you don’t know about what it’s really like), everyone is special in their own ways :)

Yeah, there are some downsides with being highly intelligent, but there are many more upsides than downsides imo

my son has an iq in the 99 percentile too, he take the WISC-V test

I’m foreverrrrrr grateful for my 4th grade teacher having me tested for gifted. She saw me. She recognized my giftedness and did what she thought was the right thing. Gifted class was the best thing to happen to me.

Hello, I recently received a letter from the school district, inviting my son into the gifted program. Do you mind telling me a little bit about your experience?

Basically if your child is above or below the age of eighteen, THEY MIGHT BE GIFTED

Everyone thinks that they/their child is gifted, it's comical how many people say that they are when in reality it is only 2-3% of the population

Agree.. And sometimes the opposite is true (not as frequently). I knew my son was smart but I didn't know he was gifted until his kindergarten and 1st grade teachers told us to have him tested. We had no one to compare him to growing up so we couldn't really see a difference.

I'd be willing to bet that it's higher then that but goes unrecognized. I'm beginning to think my 15 year old son is (has all the markers), but we never recognized it, or even looked into the signs.

the gifted requirement is an IQ of 145, however to get into a gifted program you only have to be 125. I have met the requirement with an IQ of 147. So unless the specifically informed you on how your child is extremely talented your not legally gifted. Don’t believe me? I’m a 9 year old typing this.

Gifted means thinking out of the box

My kid likes the human body. He knows the organs at 3 years old. He was even performing CPR on his stuffy. 😂

A lot of children are smart. Few are gifted. Many gifted are under the rader that’s the funny thing. Smart ones are the ones that get diplomas and do well in school. Gifted kids are a little nutty 😂. I’m a teacher.

i was mislabeled in school Aspergers for studying geography they cannot label a political map of Africa I know it all in four AU languages (Arabic English French Portuguese) I was OCD ODD bipolar and depressed for pursuing a masters level understanding of human rights humanitarian criminal refugee law

Gifted means iq of 130 plus. Nothing less.

So it’s hard to tell because the people that write the studies are using what there child does as the source of what’s gifted. It’s okay to be normal and have to try hard.

There is no gifted program, he isn't even in school. They start that around 3rd grade.

You can tell they are when they’re holding onto a gift. Duh

Gifted means iQ of 130 or higher

Almost everyone thinks their child is gifted, it's a joke. My MIL was telling me how my husband was a gifted child, I told her I don't think he was because I've seen real gifted people. That didn't go so well.

same, except not just at that school i was invited to a school by the county for only people with 99 percentiles. i hate being ‘gifted’ people expect too much of you 🥲

My son started reading at 30 months old. He was probably reading earlier but he wasn't speaking so I couldn't tell. They said my child has hyperlexia and I noticed that many hyperlexic kids are very bright and most of hyperlexic kids have autism. My son just entered Kindergarten and he can do school work many grade levels above his age. He also was diagnosed with both ADHD and Autism.

I am so bored in mathematics class. I know her content before she even teaches it. I finish m6 work at lightning speed, so fast she can’t keep up with giving me more work and runs out sometimes. My IQ is 140ish.

Marie Teresa I used to teAch my class math and then I started smoking (3 times min a day, 13-18) and I got tested and I'm at 130. I'd probably be at 145, I have the worse brain fog in the fucking world and can't remember ANNNYTHING, especially short term (seconds)

I have a modest iq with creative and helpful practical abilities. I feel I am even smarter than someone with just a high iq.
