I have a mamas boy and as a mil I don't and wouldn't allow my son to act like that. It is his marriage and his life and it doesn't matter weather I like her or not ( although she's great and I love her) I don't get in there business, finances , child rearing etc. But I'm there to listen to both of them if needed and my son feel like I'm more her mom than his. But it's there life and i wouldn't have it any other way. I'm not sure it's a momma's boy that's the problem more than a controlling mom. I think there is a difference here. I have had these problems I'm my own marriage and I wouldn't want it to be this way for them. I tell them I can listen but I don't likely have any answers y'all better pray lol.

Most in laws problems come from that child badmouthing their spouse to their family of origin. Trust me when I say spouses talk to their families about their spouses and the family doesn’t like you because of what they were told.

My husband's oldest sister was the problem in our marriage. As soon as she moved up to the US I noticed a change in my husband's attitude towards me. She was the reason for the first major argument we had in our marriage just one week after she came to the US. I realized I had to stand up to both her and my husband and place some firm boundaries around my home life. This caused a lot of issues as well but I wasn't budging. I later realized how intrusive she is with all her siblings. I think she feels like she had that right because she's the oldest. Well, she met her match with me because she's since backed off even though that strained any type of decent relationship she and I would have had. Oh well!!!

Before getting married, it’s important to understand the family your husband is from. My husband is from an enmesh family where boundaries and dependability is a problem. I knew this, but didn’t know how to deal with it. I later learned that his stepmother ran everything through his older sister (who they see as high and mighty). When certain things became clear to me, I immediately began to create boundaries and let go of my expectations of that family. My marriage became better not prefect. We go through our own ups and downs like any relationship, but we’re learning to deal with our situation privately without involving a third party.

Amen. My wife and her father act like the married couple. He's been divorced 3 times and at some point gave up and groomed her to be his surrogate wife. They will praise god all day long until they hear this message. Then they'll give you the proverbial middle finger. They get nasty when you talk about boundaries and overstepping them. I've had to confront her dad directly and he calls me all sorts of things with my wife in tow to shut me up. 13 years of marriage counseling and seminars and podcasts and sermons that we've been to and heard the same message. After all these people saying the same thing, I'm the manipulator and asshole and need to grow up and so on and so on. One day I read a quote that sums it all up........people that get angry when you set boundaries are the ones who benefited from you having none.

Sweet girl however she wanted me to sell my house and move in with parents and be under their rule basically . I’m a 37 year old man with a kid . I was looking for some signs of her wanting Independance from the family however when I asked about having future kids with her she said her dad would home school the kids which meant all her time would be spent in the future at the parents house instead of our home. Second when I asked if she wanted talk about my finance and money situation she said she will have her dad look at it . Wow! Talk about codependent … We broke up because I need to establish my leadership and can not live with parents .

In my husbands face she smiles and as soon as he turns around she mouth bad stuff to me. No matter how many times I tell him his response is I cant stop her, so I'll go see her alone. They are on the phone EVERYDAY several times a day. This woman has told my son to f off n go die. He still took her side and when I try to tell him how I feel he throws scripture in my face. My marriage is doomed and hes the only one who doesn't see it. He also feels like he HAS to take care of her but he cant take care of himself. Especially with an addictive personality. Natasha Boyarkin hi Natasha, I suggest pointing out to your husband that this is hurting you. Try not to blame the mother, but instead make him understand that you are his wife and you need him first. Make him feel loved and needed by you. Help him understand that you feel sad and insecure (or however you are feeling) because it seems like he is neglecting your needs or whatever is specific to you both. This is probably also an issue with something inside you where you have a need that also is not being met. Try to look inward first, imagine if you felt completely whole and safe and were full of love, would it still bother you? Are you being selfish? After you really try to examine yourself, if you feel she truly is over bearing, then I would definitely talk to your husband and see if he can set limits with her... maybe he can set aside one day a week to go help her with things. Maybe he does things better than anyone else and this is why she favors him?? Idk! But he should set limits and find a way he can help but not neglect his own family in the process. Example, Tuesday’s after work is mom help day. Etc. and Friday night is date night w wife no kids! ;) good luck and remember Jesus is with you

How about if you're the one who's taking care of housing and the only request you have is your privacy to be respected and then your in laws intrude your marriage, intrude your parenthood, lie about you all around, when you confront them play innocent and a victim and continue to turn people against you... And then between the lines demand more, since they handle their money as if the pile never ends and expect you to pile it up for them, like it's your duty and responsibility to take care of them - especially emotionally apparently. I'm on the brink, because I've been very hurt from the past and I'm doing my best to process my past to be ok... I'm most hurt when anyone does me injustice (since nobody ever believed me) or when they keep pointing it out I'm not good enough. I can't rise above that much, I'm only human. I followed an advice in which I prayed to be thankful I have them - sort of the advice - and see only the positive side. Well... I did that, I was let's say ok, but then I saw they kept gaining ground, doing more damage. Now I'm bitter beyond... My husband supports me, does his best to keep repeating and enforcing even boundaries, but whenever they cross it and I get mad, he hisses at me and I'm done... I'm too tired, drained, not happy at all, bitter beyond imagination, pregnant, and ready to pick it all up and move out, cause I never want to see them again. I'm so destroyed I'd need quality anti depressants but cannot just do it cause of pregnancy and breast feeding. Please, if anyone reads this, I'm in great need of prayer support.

I can't say anything to my mother inlaw because she's bipolar. Before any one gets mad at me they actually told me I can't let her know when she's doing something that bothers me. I need to let her get into my pantie drawers rearrange everything. Also she just came in when I was induced for my first born. Idk about most women but I don't want my mother inlaw there when someone is feeling if I have dilated yet. My relationship is going well but this is messing it up. Because my husband won't support me in this issue.

@@Simplyme530 financial. My husbands boss (a friend of his families) broke into our home, sexually assaulted me in bed, while I was sleeping he attempted to rape me-our 14 year old son was awake(husband was gone that night) he grabbed a knife and in order to protect him I grabbed the gun...anyway the man was run out of the home unharmed...year long devastating trial. My mother in law, after he was criminally convicted, wrote me a letter, interfering with the 2nd trial (civil suit) by telling me I was actually to blame and needed to drop the civil suit, which it’s a crime to work on behalf of a criminal to get the victim to drop the civil suit. She literally worked with and defended the man criminally charged, who did this to her son and his wife/child. This was just the largest thing done; we are talking 9 years of every kind of narc tactic in the book pulled-all while she sees herself as the victim-I mean I healed many things spiritually from all this-but she will still tell my husband he’s ignoring her if he doesn’t pick up the phone immediately when she calls. I had to go to her for an apology from all this; and she behaved like what has happened was really no big deal. She’s so disgusting to me, but I wish her no hate I just want to be far away from her clutches. Working on that. It was done bc she tries to keep her son codependent on her-and if I succeeded in taking the man to civil court-he’d have zero reason to ever need $ from her. We lost everything our home, my sons specialty school, bc he’s disabled mentally, my husband lost his job. It was the worst thing I could ever imagine a human doing to another, much less their own child. All bc she has to compete with me.

If you want to be invited, you should have A) had your own daughter or son and bonded with him or her when s/he was young so s/he’d invite you when s/he became older OR B) treated your daughter-in-law better so she feels safe around you.
