In the latest episode of "The Mind Shift Podcast," hosted by Erwin McManus and Aaron McManus, the discussion centers around the multifaceted relationship between wealth, parenting, ethics, and leadership development.
Wealth and Generosity: Building Value Systems
Erwin and Aaron kick off the episode by delving into the ethical dimensions of wealth. They share inspiring stories, including their friend Sasha's remarkable efforts in building hospitals and schools in Nigeria, highlighting the profound impact of generosity. The conversation emphasizes the importance of instilling strong value systems in children, steering them away from the pitfalls of entitlement and towards a life marked by contribution and selflessness.
Overcoming Challenges: Resilience in Business and Life
Transitioning from personal virtues, the McManuses candidly share their experiences with business challenges. Whether discussing the impact of unexpected home repairs or the fear of financial ruin, they offer a candid look at the pressures of maintaining ethical integrity in the face of adversity. Erwin reassures Aaron, reflecting on past hardships, "We've been through difficult situations before and always find a way through."
Cultivating Grit: Lessons in Parenting
A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to the concept of resilience, particularly in children. Erwin advocates for the role of failure and chores in building mental strength and character. He shares personal anecdotes, such as his own sports injuries, to illustrate how setbacks can be transformed into opportunities for growth. This segues into discussions about parenting strategies that encourage collaboration and contribution within the family unit.
Leadership and Culture: Fostering Humility and Hard Work
The conversation also explores how personal experiences shape leadership styles. Aaron recounts lessons learned from working in New York, noting how these experiences instilled a culture of service and mutual support within his teams. Erwin attributes his leadership approach to a blend of hard-earned wisdom and the values passed down from his mentors, emphasizing the importance of humility and diligence.

wow this is very raw. I know Aaron gets a lot of hate on the internet and he's very tough on himself, but I think Aaron is a very admirable man. Many look at the highlight reel of people's lives but character is often overlooked. Great leaders are those that are willing to serve at the lowest level. ♥

Aaron seems like a loving, compassionate person. As his father does as well. I enjoy listening and learning from this father and son team.❤

Great conversation! I’ve made making a difference a goal but haven’t been great at making that into a business. I’ve attached such negativity to wealth that I subconsciously repel it and I need to get that mindset broken off of me 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾52:50

Woohoo had to listen on 1.5 speed but finally caught up, I've watched ALL 44 episodes of mind shift.🙌 Appreciate your transparency about life & your relationships! LOVE your podcast and Mosaic & I'm constantly sharing these messages with others!! First introduced to Erwin through Ed Mylett and our business when he spoke to Wealth Builders (Sidenote my photo was on Ed's jet;). We live in OC and attend Mosaic when visiting our LA daughter. Grateful our teen is now hooked on "girls gone bible", appreciate all the people we have met through your ministry. Your conference in March was truly Out of this World amazing, our daughter often says I want to go back next year! Our family would LOVE to attend the Arena conference but are not members of the arena. Possible we could get tickets for that event alone? Praying for Eph 3:20 abundant health and strength be yours today! 🙏Your OC fan. Kt

Greetings friends and mentors. I have a theory regarding the Rich Young Ruler in Luke 18 in Scripture. I believe that he had INHERITED WEALTH. When Jesus said, “Go and sell all you have and follow me,” the young rich man “walked away sorrowfully because he had many possessions.” If he had been an entrepreneur, he would have known that he could go and make it all over again. Instead, I believe he had inherited wealth and was scared to lose it because he had not developed the resilience to make it again.

Great conversation! Erwin have you thought about developing learning materials such as a book for children that talk about the big questions like is there a God, what is the meaning of life, etc? I remember you mentioned in a past video that when you were 8 or 10, I think, that you had a desire to learn about and were in search of life's meaning? I think lots of people would find it useful!
