Paraset WW2 spy radio replica morse code CW QSO

Here i´m showing my latest build. It´s a Paraset, a one tube transmitter, 2 tube regenerative receiver transceiver.
This was a fun build, and I´m pleased with the result.

As an old Ham operator and military CW operator, I find this little transceiver incredible.

It’s inspired me to build something like that in an old cash box. Cut and bend a chassis to fit inside and have the lid as a protective cover for everything Tubes are fun, but I’d go solid state with a DDS and internal batteries to take out portable. Got me thinking.

Super Job. Nice to see people taking interest in history and to actually turn it into living-history combined with first-class craftsmanship.

Very nice build! Fantastic audio. Well done! I have made one too but have problems making the receiver work in the range required. Will keep on working on that. Why is it an infamous transceiver? I thought it was famous.... 73 and tnx. Rob. YS1RS

That is a great little bit of equipment. Well done. I've been wondering about the types of radio that spies may have used, so thanks for sharing. Best wishes from New Zealand.

What did you do with the crystal right before the QSO? I assume you matched your receive frequency with it, but I'm asking how exactly?

  • @SA2CLC

Correct. I have a single transistor oscillator built into the power supply used for "spotting" the transmitter in the receiver. Only thing is I'm not spotting the transmitter, but rather the crystal frequency.

Hello! What do you put the crystal in so that you can tune it to its frequency? I also built a paraset, but I haven't solved it yet. Thanks to: Alexander

I built a simple crystal oscillator using a transistor. The oscillator sits in the power supply, and I just put crystal in there, tune the receiver and insert the crystal into the transmitter again

@@SA2CLC Thanks for the answer, I know it's a simple drawing, but don't you have a wiring diagram for yours? I'm a beginner and there are too many drawings on the net, yours definitely works. Thanks!!

Sorry to hear. Can't say that I havent thought about making a few to sell. Making panels, welding boxes would not be a problem, but a lot of the other stuff is. If parts were more readily available, and it was not so labour intense to make the needed parts, it could be done. Unfortunately, my hands are full at the moment.

We build it :) The antenna connection is between the pa tube and the receiver tubes. One banana jack for antenna, one for ground.
