Very similar to what I used to carry as an EMT. I couldn't give drugs so i never carried a carpuject. I had a vest i actually got for free from a family friend, his police department changed the vests every 5 years and they still had 5 years left on the date which carried me through until i became a nurse and left EMS. I used to wear it when i worked in the city, as well as my transport job when my truck would go to Reading, PA, Philadelphia or other high risk areas. Even though i didn't do 911 in transport , the areas were often high drug and it made me feel comfortable in the rare case someone tried to rob our bls unit thinking we had sedatives or opiates

Hey man, just wanted to thank you for your instructional content; some of it was super helpful when I was studying up for NREMT earlier this year! If you don't mind me geeking out for a sec on boots... Dunno if you've ever heard about this, but I think there was a study done some years ago by the US Army on boots and socks. If I remember right, it found that the best footwear layout was (from inside to outside): a thin, wicking sock (ex high% polyester sock); then a slightly thicker merino wool sock (I love DarnTough socks); and lastly the boot. The inner sock just kinda glides around within the outer sock, preventing blisters/hotspots/chafing. Plus, it dumps all your sweat into the wool, which can keep you warm even when wet. The whole setup ventilates well enough to use year-round too. It's how I've always worn my boots, and it's never let me down yet. Boy Scout -> EMT -> CSAR hopeful/trainee

Best comment I read about this topic so far: "I was always lucky enough to have a colleague with the stuff I needed on his belt, so please keep doing it!" It's a pain, that many people judge their colleagues by the amount of stuff on their belts. For me it has always been quite simple: if it's annoying in the pockets, it goes on the belt. And to be honest it's not such a big deal on the station I work at, since many of the more senior colleagues have quite a lot of equipment on their belts. From my experience it's often about having a reason to carry it in the first place. Afterwards there's hardly any difference between a few things on the belt and stuffed pockets. It's actually a bit more handy to have it on the belt since our pockets don't have quite much internal structure.

The belt itself is made of scuba webbing so it’s super stiff, water resistant and the buckle is made of a non magnetic material so it doesn’t rust or anything either. I’ve used one as my battle belt for a year or so now and I love it. Keep it coming with the videos and we all really appreciate the work you’re doing

You make great videos man, I just find it funny how different agencies are from each other as well as the people within those agencies. I’ve worked in EMS for almost 10 years in a very busy system in central California. We wear T-shirts in the summer and sweat shirts in the winter, and carry as little as possible for the most part. We definitely have a comfort > everything mentality haha. Me personally, I use a radio strap that has a shear holder on the radio bucket, and I also keep a flashlight and pen on the strap as well. I, of course, always have my phone and wallet on me as well as a sharpie, but thats really it. I guess keys too for the rig, but other than that I can’t really think of anything. On calls, I print a strip of monitor paper and write everything on the back of it. We transmit vitals via cloud, and we don’t have name badges or class B’s. Very different from what you guys do it seems like, pretty interesting. Keep up the good work!

They have the ability to connect to your phone or tablet via the app as it generates its own wireless signal to connect. May be useful, not really sure what conditions you would have to go through, but seems good.

My mate says "what are you doing?" Turned out we were four hours away. Too far for choppers, locals usually contact the Flying Doctor by radio if medical help is needed. Nearly everybody outside town has an airstrip. It's about 2 hours flying time to a main hospital. Google "Bedourie Queensland" for an eye opener. Take care out there.

PrepMedic, do you ever use the RiteInTheRain EMS books? Are you familiar with them, if so, what is your opinion? Also, at 9:18 I saw you're using the gel pen, do you find that still works for RITR books? I haven't tried it yet. Thanks for the great videos, and suggestions. Keep it up!

A piece of cloth seems excessive. I usually just keep a small vial full of prayers soaked in holy water. Works wonders stopping gross hemorrhage and can even reattach severed limbs. Much more versatile than a tq.

Have you ever gotten your pants tapered at the tailors. I have the 511 EMS pants too but they are super baggy. The first time I wore them my daughter asked me if we were going sledding because she thought I had snow pants on. Everything about the pants are great I just wish they were just a little less like MC Hammer pants.
