You can fly without variometer. But you should prepare your checklist 2 or 3 times before you take off. You didn't use the accelerator until after 3 or 4 minutes of flight! Even when you knew that you were not going forward and that could cause a collapse. No radio too! And no parachute? Those are signs of an irresponsable and risky pilot. To Fly safe is the first rule. Never fly alone if you don't really know what you are doing man! Cheers from Argentina.

Dont fly on your own when you are not experienced or ever. Where are your boots for hard landings. Fly safe best of luck.

Why did you focused on altitude ? If One info is useful it’s ground speed - at first speed bar and ears to go in a softer lift band in front of take off - if not When you.re high enough, run away back wind (high enough to avoid turbulences from lee side, and that was your case ) and go in the flatland behind looking for a Nice field

Glad you made it to post the vid. Lots to learn here. The launch looks very dangerous in all but light winds due to the wires directly behind, above, and potentially in the rotor. Had you not been able to penetrate as you just barely did, or had you been plucked or had a messy inflation, this video could have looked dramatically different. A small gust on launch would have been a bad deal. A variometer is nice, but the issue here seemed to be penetration. Having the speed bar ready at a moments notice is important on windy days where getting blown back must be avoided. Certainly a reserve is not something to fly without. Glad you learned some things and that you survived to fly another day! Remember, there are old pilots and there are bold pilots, but there are very few old bold pilots.

It was supposed to be a calm flight, take off and land, but at that moment it began to blow an unusual wind, it was not prepared for that situation. Fortunately, everything went well and I managed to land safely. The lesson remained and I hope that the video will help some pilots not to make the same mistakes I made. Good flights.

@@tmnparagliding782 always check the meteorology first. If you know that the conditions are not for your level of flight, you can always abort to fly another day. If you don't have enough experience of flight, you can always call an older pilot to advise you on radio what to do. I don't know where was this flight, but here you give the local club enough reasons to ban your license to fly. Be smart man! Cheers from Salta.

Why didn't you try to push forward (straight out) first? Maybe you could have gotten in front of the lift-band where the windspeed could be somewhat less than on top of or just in front of the hill. It seems you're also pretty deep on the brakes at first. This will result in less speed/penetration into the wind. Then you're trying to get into your speedbar (Maybe a Apco Wonderbar would be really helpful here), while managing this, you should always pay attention to your course/heading, because you're turning towards the hill. You're enabling your speedsystem just a littlebit (

you could have gone to the right where the hill is a little less steep and it looks like there was a thermal component on the hill. A vario helps but it will not help you going down. don't fly without reserve, absolutely agree 😊 many happy flights 👍👍🦅
