Paradise on Earth! | Exploring São Tomé
Welcome to São Tomé. In December of 2019 and with the help of Expedition Earth, I travelled to São Tomé Island. We went on a recon mission to scout the island for future tours. This island was recommended to us by one of Johan's friends and wow this is a lost paradise, to say the least!
We traversed the island for 16 days and despite the Island being reasonably small, we still did not get around to everything. This island has so much to over and see and the history on this remote island is beyond belief. Enjoy this video and I hope everyone gets a chance to travel to this beautiful island called São Tomé!

Absolutely stunning!
Nature at it's best.
The rumbling near the waves usualy is from the round rocks rolling against each other, in some rock beaches with strong waves seems like thunders. When there's no sand to absorb impact, this sound is very common. Great video

Great video. Ive been wanting to do the same, either hiking or cycling there but not sure as a woman alone how ok that is. What do you mean by pirates and why would pirates attack on land 😂? I think the bay is just called that according to other youtube videos
@DieterPey

Thanks! We felt pretty safe there, but women alone might be a different scenario. The island is very rural and untouched, so without the right knowledge I think you can get very lost there with extremely little assistance. The language barrier was a tricky one for us. Their main and almost only language is Portuguese. My advice, get a local tour guid to assist you with some route planning and advice before setting off solo. The "Pirates" were real. Many locals told us about them as well. They are illegal fishers who go out at night and that bay is famous for them. They won't really disturb you, but they don't like being watched and we were warned they might come ashore to see what we have for them to take, but we didn't have any encounters.
We went there surfing in 1999. Beautiful and still looks the same. Was there still a lot of Malaria when you were there?
@DieterPey

Wow, that must be some great memories! We did have to take Malaria pills and the others were very badly eaten by Mosquitoes. I'm luckily enough to not have tasty blood.

@@DieterPey yes a great experience, also once there we found out that there was no way we could get cash with our credit cards 🙈 so one hotel would charge our cards and give us cash...we also took Malaria pills the whole trip... beautiful place

Do you suggest hire a car during Sao Tome travel? Roads are in good condition or not and accesible to main sightspots?
@DieterPey
16 күн бұрын
I would highly recommend hiring a car. Roads are fairly good, but get an SUV or similar. Many sights are a short walk from the main road, however some are only accessible via a dirt road.
I was surprised by the amount of rainfall. Is that a seasonal thing, like monsoon in some countries, and you just happened to be there at that time, or an all-year-round feature of the climate there?

I am not sure, to be honest. The island is on the equator so the weather should be very simular year round

Hello. I’m thinking of going here. Is it possible to get by without speaking Portuguese? Are there many English speakers?
@DieterPey
Жыл бұрын
The language barrier wasn't to difficult. There wasn't many English speaking locals at all, I think we found a handful. We learn a few basic Portuguese terms and that got us pretty far. I would recommend visit that island, it is absolutely beautiful!

I've only been to Europe once when I was little. Technically humans all came from Africa at a place called the Cradle of Man Kind near Johannesburg. Do you ever consider why African's migrated to Europe and then evolved to survive the cold conditions up there?
