A very clear metaphor of how the rich can buy "work" years from the poor in the real world, so they themselves can enjoy a "longer" life. The 40 years stolen is also a very clear reference, it is the average years a person dedicates to work. They pass like a blink, so one morning you wake up and find yourself old. As the phrase "many die at 25, but they are buried when they are 65".

Honestly, It was better than I expected it to be. Most of the shows or movies in Netflix sucks so I had very low expectations on this one, but it honestly took me by surprise that its actually good. This movie shows how everything is flawed, most especially when out-of-the-world innovations are in the hands of corrupt people. Furthermore, it also shows the flaws of humanity. How people would go mad out of desperation. Ignoring morals and ethics. This is evident as we see through the lens of the main characters. How both of them got desperate, either for love, or because one had lost everything, eventually leading to them ignoring their morals, no matter how good they are in the past. This movie perfectly showcased what tragedy is and how imperfect people and the world can be. It only matters on what we can do about it. In my opinion, I would rewatch it again to see if my review is right or wrong, but for now, I will rate it 7/10. Also, good review man, you gave me some insights that help me understand this movie more.

Yup, in that moment, you saw the compassion for that girl leave her eyes. She probably even felt betrayed in a way. She fought with her husband because she didn't want to take her years. She saved her life by pulling her from the water, and then she was given the opportunity to shoot her and didn't take it. Though, you could see she didn't fully agree with what they were doing to those children at the camp. She was only taking back what was hers. It's not her fault the girl's mother is selfish.

Just realized this is about money versus time- the poor trade their time for money(hours spent working for a salary). The rich put their money to work for them and use money to buy them time- aka freedom- in this movie that trade off is literal- right now it’s the rich person paying someone else to clean their home for 5 hours while they do something else during that time.

I agree. It’s ultimately your life and there’s a debate to be had about if it’s a choice if the alternative is something like poverty. I can see someone thinking it’s a good trade off to sell 4-5 years to pay off a debt rather than working that same amount of time. The guy at the beginning was a good example. He thought it was going to be a few years at most, not 15.

He understands the insanity of the system in which he had been part. Basically he got a revelation, or epiphany, after his girlfriend pointed a knife to him. From there he understands the insanity of the system and people, the same people who love. They didn't stay together probably because the knife scene, he didn't forgive her, or maybe she herself after having achieve her goal was no more interest in him, too different opinions. Basically the protagonist had a redemption act, after being part of the system, he understands its insanity and his sins, so he tried being better, fighting the system, ergo being an anarco-terrorist (there are many references to anarchy ideas also the symbol of an A in a rifle scope is similar to Anarchy symbol, Anarchy is Order)

  • @ced11773

Everybody who is confused why the husband changed his mind--I think it was because Sophie was killed. Her death meant that Marie couldn't be given her time back. He had a shift in his moral compass because he realized that Marie truly was an innocent life that they'd be taking, and without her mother to give her time back, they would basically be like killing Marie who didn't do anything to deserve it. He was strongly motivated in his plan at first because he thought he'd be punishing Sophie, but once he realized he would be hurting an innocent instead, he changed his mind and course of action. But obviously by that point, his wife was too wrapped up in wanting her time back that she didn't care who suffered because of it, innocent or not. (Oh, and also that Marie tried to shoot her 😂.) When two people are at two different pages morally speaking, they tend to break up lol

It’s fundamentally about how the wealthy versus the poor view money vs time- the poor trade the more valuable commodity, their time, for the less valuable thing, which is fiat currency that the poor then exchange for items they mostly end up throwing away. That’s why money experts tell us to spend on experiences if we are going to spend our HARD EARNED money(earned through hours spend working- we gave away our time for coin). Experiences make us happier and last longer than our “stuff”(the new handbag, car, clothing. The rich really understand how to work money and time in our unfair capitalist economy: INVEST any money you make/inherit- in the stock market or a business and get that invested money to throw off INCOME, which the rich then use to buy leisure time by hiring us grunts to clean their house, mow their yards, watch their kids….

Another neighbor inherited a shit ton of money and all she does is fuss over two horses that are super expensive. She doesn’t clean her own house or tend her own yard- that’s probably over 4K a month in house keepers and landscapers. Then there’s the pool guy. Someone delivers their meals. It blows my mind- her dad was a huge commodity Barron in the third world and left her billions- She spends all sorts of $$$$ on stem cell injections, massage, mani pedi- she’d totally buy youth from someone else or steal it if she could- her inheritance will live on after she dies so if she could extend her life you bet she’d jump at that- most of the rich I’ve worked with are so entitled-they think their sh%t doesn’t stink and they often confuse luck with sweat- many of them were just lucky but once you have hundreds of millions, they start to think they’re better than everyone else- they ALL are preoccupied with their appearance and longevity potions/ supplements. The one in a hundred that doesn’t care about their appearance has some sort of super rich hobby. I have worked with many many wealthy people and I have yet to find the mother Theresa type. I’m sure there’s one or two but mostly they’re super f’ing materialistic-modern capitalism definitely brings that out in wealthy people and I think that contributes to the sense of inequality today in the United States/ whether it’s rich people showing off on social media, or on the streets of Beverly Hills, little people can see glimpses of what they’re doing and what they have, and it is super irritating, when so many people are just struggling to keep a roof over their heads. If America doesn’t do the classic decline of an empire thing, and the rich continue to accumulate all this money, whatever technology we come up that benefits them, they will spend everything they have if it makes them look and feel amazing.

But that's exactly how they'll say it benefits society. The poor will receive hundreds of thousands for one contract. Also there will be a black market.

In the beginning, he benefited from the system and did not want to see. In the end, she benefits from the system and does not want to see. The end was the logical consequence. He could no longer be with such a woman. Injustice cannot be undone by more injustice. Nothing was the same as before. And that is the basic message of the film. People can buy time and rejuvenate themselves, but time still cannot be turned back. What has happened, has happened.

Previously, she thought it was an accident because of the candle that she may have left burning so she didn't feel like it was right to take the life. The entire movie shows us one thing only. The brutal reality of female nature. A good faithful woman turned toxic in the end because of vengeance. As a man, you can do anything for your wife but if she finds you didn't understand her deepest pain and not mentally with her, you will be kicked out. Single bitter man in the end has nowhere to go but join red pill and black pill community to fight the media and government.

This entire comment shows us only one thing. That it was a bad idea to allow men on the internet.

Because the movie ending is bitter, I'm just speaking up for those who didn't understand the movie. If they get back together, it's happy. If one of them stuck and can't reunite, it's sad. This movie chose to make the woman expose her nature after the girl decided to kill her with the empty gun. She was this sweet kindhearted nurse that saves and forgives everyone, until that girl trigger moment, you can clearly tell, something evil inside her soul woke up. You just feel bitter and sorry for the guy in the end. And this type of things are happening in real life.@@angeleyes3386

In the movie's story, the Baltic states have exited the European Union and Germany seems to be the leader state of the union. I found this statement very intriguing because Brexit kinda elevated Germany to a leading state over the other EU nations. I would not be surprised that in the distant future, the EU would consist only of countries with leading economies and the other countries would become periphery states.
