Drop the "missionary bush pilot" narrative. It stinks of colonial "white saviour" complex. We are in the 21st century, you are not saving anyone.
That was better footage of the slide than I've watched on the news channels!

Thanks for the landslide flyover. I couldn't believe how the mountain looked like it was sheared off! Great landing as well. Always exciting "flying" with you. Stay safe!
As a geologist looking at the top of the landslide - the fresh rock, and the shape of the mountainside around it, it looks like it could have been a slip along a highly inclined "bedding plane" (or similar planar structure). Much like snow on a sloping roof - it seems like it could be stable, until something causes it to start sliding. Nonetheless, an absolute tragedy.

Incredible flying Ryan - no room for error on that approach. Cheers Ian
Thanks Ryan, a mush better view of the slide, a very sad situation for that village. One guy said he had lost 19 of his family………Roger
Great video. Thanks for checking out the landslide. Incredible view. Prayers for all involved. Thanks for sharing. 🙏
Thanks for the flyover Ryan it was like getting a customized view, your flights are informative as always.
Thank you Ryan, superb approach and landing. God bless and protect those helicopter pilots and the people repairing infrastructure. Everyone affected is in my thoughts and prayers and those in Churches across the UK and locally here near Cambridge.
Your videos are a Sunday treat for me. This one was a bonus treat‼️ I’ve followed the landslide story and the view you facilitated was spectacularly good‼️ My son is a pilot for the airlines for 23 years and I always tho’t he would enjoy being a bush pilot. He loves the Lord. Your lifestyle would be enjoyable for him but that ship has sailed. I’ve always been fascinated by aviation. Thank for ALL you do to make this world a better place🙏‼️
Wanakipa is just a couple miles downriver from Atini where I lived from age 4 to 18. Made me happy and heartsick to see the Pori river and my mountains again. Appreciate the video.
Thank you for the flyover of the slide. So tragic...when I heard about it on the news I thought of you and the missionariaes....glad you are all ok. RIP those whoese lives were lost in the slide. That mountain formation looks very unstable. Stay safe flying!
Absolutely horrible tragedy. The most deadly landslide in Papua New Guinea occurred in Enga province in May 2024, where an estimated 2,000 people were buried alive. This landslide caused significant destruction to the village of Yambali, burying homes, food gardens, and resulting in a high number of casualties. The event was described as devastating, with survivors recounting the horror of losing many loved ones.

Ryan , looking at the pictures brought back memories of the 2014 Oso mudslide in Western Washington. I lived 30 miles from it at the time. Fly safe and return home to your family. God Bless you for what you do
Surprised that Yambali did not retain an airstrip despite the road being there. We noted in Tapini that the airstrip was still active despite there being a road. We got to Tapini by road because they had repaired the road yet again after the latest landslide.
Thank you Ryan. It is so frustrating that there has been so little news about this. God bless you and the people of that village.
Thanks for all you do for these awesome people in this country. Thanks for your time and effort for these videos.
Thanks, Ryan, for showing us the slide.
Thank You for taking the Time & Effort to show us the Landslide I have been curious about it and your Flight showed it very clearly
Thanks for the flyover Ryan of the slide. Always great videos.
Thanks for taking us with you.
Thanks for the great videos! You are always very informative, keep up the great work !!
I live on a remote island in Southeast Alaska. We had a landslide last fall. It took out a family of five and took the man of the house nearby. His wife was trapped in the upstairs bathroom and that's what saved her life. I haven't been out there yet since my transmission said goodbye. I can only imagine though. My neighbor worked the cleanup, he's a dump truck driver. He posted a video of one of the helicopters that was ferrying geologists. I kid you not, the helicopter looked like a drone against the backdrop of the landslide.
When we built roads in the highlands we would easily find a quarry to dig into. A lot of material was coral limestone. So it does not surprise me getting these slips. Weather (rain) related slips closed the roads regularly.
Wow! A whole slab of that mountain just fractured and slid down. Thanks for showing us and prayers for the folks affected and the SAR teams.🙏
Reminds me of a landslide back in the late 70s on the PMAR (Port Mine Access Road) on Bougainville - It took out two D10 dozers, and around a dozen people - they dug but when they came on one of the D10 blades, torn off, and bent, they gave digging.
Thanks Ryan for giving us that view of the tragic landslide.
Great video and content. Keep making them and posting them. They have been a part of my Sunday morning routine. Greetings from a CFI and aircraft owner currently living in Las Vegas, NV.
Thank you Ryan. Mother nature can be treacherous. Thoughts for all. It is a pleasure to fly along.

Always great flying with you Ryan. Some really gorgeous places there. I enjoy ALL of your videos. Thank you for all the work you put into them. I know all the gathering and editing is a real chore. You make it all work.
Thank you for showing the landslide area. Also, it is nice to watch a landing and check it out in your photo book. The book is a great reference.
Awesome . 👏🏼. Thanks Ryan great approach & landing. On the numbers
What a clear and interesting video of the area. Thanks
i totally thought of you and the communities you serve when I read about the landslide in PNG the day it happened. Thanks for this video

Parabéns Comandante, grande máquina.
Great video, thanks Ryan.
Appreciate this report!
Thank you for flying over the landslide. The tragedy of that landslide has been on my mind. It does make me wonder how it could have happened. We pray for you and your family Ryan
In Melbourne Australia, a friend asked me if I'd fly with him to PNG onto one way airstrips. I decline as he wanted to use a V tailed Bonanza. A pilot since 1957. p.s. Your landslide footage is tops. 🙂
Cool vid mate, thanks👍
WOW! Such amazing footage of the landslide... and a great landing by the way! 👌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks for the flyover and all your efforts.
Thanks Ryan.
Thanks a lot for the landslide footage.
Aviation and Geology in one video. Seriously fun. Thanks!
Not sure Ryan if 'enjoy' is the word I would use for seeing the site of this devastating natural disaster. But thank you for the footage - only now I realise how much of that mountain has come down, just shearing off! Absolutely scary!
Likely the best view/footage of the landslide. Looking down the fall line is very informative of how massive & unpredictable the tragedy is. Thank you for all you do, and for posting the landslide view. Would hope a major, or several, media Services PURCHASE that section of your video.
Another stunning PNG flight Ryan, that landslide was very scary indeed!
Ryan, as always I appreciate the video. As for my aviation journey I’m currently ready for my Instrument Checkride just waiting on the Examiner! Something I noticed that wanted to bring to your attention. When using the measuring tool on ForeFlight, you’re supposed to use the outside lines where they intersect and create a X or Cross on the corners of the tool instead of the center line. For example use the tool over a very long distance and see the difference in numbers on the top and bottom line. When I learned this it made using the tool much much much easier!

Thanks for another excellent video. The landslide is such a tragedy! I thought of you and all those serving on the mission field in PNG. Prayers for those who lost loved ones. Thanks for serving God with your excellent flight skills!
That’s stunned me!!!
Those few moments of video of the actual landslide- when you were close to it, gave me a MUCH better idea what happened, and how it happened compared to any other photos or video I have seen if it. Yes, very tragic and sad.... a massive amount of earth indeed. Well done- as always.
Thanks Ryan! That steeply inclined plane looked remarkably smooth (bedding plane?), and it's no wonder the soil and vegetation slid off when the conditions allowed the slippage. Devastating! Great flight, nice roundout to match the slope at the correct speed. Well done, God bless.
Thank you Ryan, Great video as always. Thats a sizeable chunk of mountain to come loose. A terrible tragedy. 😐
Due to the terrain and abundance of rainfall... I would expect that landslides are pretty common. I hope everyone is safe.
Thankyou Ryan for a better image of the landslide. The lake you saw enroute is Lake Sirunki.🙏

@@MissionaryBushPilot Be Safe!
Thanks for the landslide flyby. I had seen pictures, but this really highlighted the shear-off. Tropical setting is deceiving. We are used to looking at alpine for these elevations. Also not usual for us in the states to see this chain of high mountain, populated zones. Thank you , again.
Wow, that is a whole lot of earth that sheared off. There's a farm on the back side of the slip that looks very vulnerable now due to the new overhang created. I hope everyone stays safe on the ground and in the airspace around it. Thank you for the real view Ryan, I always appreciate your very safe flying from before takeoff to being stopped after landing. So professional. 👍
My late godfather worked in PNG in the 60s-70s and flew in and out of Wabag a few times. He said the runway had a significant step in the middle of it, making it an... interesting... place to go.
Great video. Love the coffee table book too. Cheers from Winnipeg.

When I was flying in Arnhem Land, our planes were all VH-LH#. The plane I flew most was LHX, so when I flew any other plane I still called it LHX. The person who was actually flying LHX would pipe up and say, "Hey that's my plane. Get you own." or something to that effect. I understand completely🤣
Great view of a terribly sad situation! I'm sure you would have had every media outlet around the world offering to pay you for that footage, last week.
Interesting to see the site of the tragedy, thanks Ryan

Beautiful visuals and slick landing. PPNG is beautiful but I bet it can get dangerous quickly if you are new and dont know the local weather conditions.
That mountain definitely sheared off along the bedding plane/strata. That is like a slab avalanche but with rock.
19:30 Astonishing that much of the mountain collapsed. I wonder if they had heavy rains or an earthquake prior?

Ryan love you for the wounder of the world in clouds, but I love your Exemplary procedures before and landing. Do not take risks through the clouds, they are angels, but some will lead you to some temptation. Don't do it 🤔 But you are more skilled than many. Take care and happy flying for the future, Great Vids Ryan.

Landslide created a graveyard for hundreds. Sad. Condolences to loved ones left to cope with their loss.
You should be looking out!
I have flown Mt Hagen to Porgera via helicopter a couple of times for work
Do all the Villages that you go to get advanced information that your coming & you still turn your landing light on so they can see you coming in?
Been watching that landslide on TV after seeing your video you can see better idea how the people didn’t get a chance to escape.
You should call the local media, who knows they may pay ya for it and give you credits....for the flight!
Prayers for those touched by the unfathomable tragedy in Yamboli.
Great job landing and a fantastic view of the landslide. Great job showing and telling Ryan the landslide was great too see have a good one see ya next time see ya bye.
The mission my church supports also reported this landslide. Devastating
@MissionaryBushPilot have you ever needed an alternate in Papua (Indonesia), seeing as you are flying quite close to the border?

As a geologist we can see the bedding layer that failed shocking but very predictable.
Odd to describe this mission as “really fun” considering people died :/
