Paperface50 | Serge Origins | Episode 07 | Integration
Музыка
This is the final episode of the series, where we'll go from 4U Banana to Eurorack and back. I was expecting a lot from this episode because i could finally add a quantizer and stereo effects. Sure it worked like a charm, but it also took away a lot of the magic and purety, degrading the Serge to 'just a bitg module' in a larger collective. I think I understand now why so many 4U users don't add too many bells and whistles and listen to all the little details hiding in the waves.

Great series.
On paper, quantization .. how can you not. Then, .. after getting it .. mysteriously, something's missing. And that's the nice thing about much gear now, slewing features are often available .. just, finding the right places ..
You could create a subharmonic series from a DUSG instead of a quantizer.
Very good "educational" series. ;) Love that Serge stuff. But you also have an uncanny knack to just get the best sounds out of almost anything! Thankfully I just don't have the funds to go out now and buy a Paperface immediately, otherwise I would do it. :P GAS is a serious problem... ;) 👍

I've been on the verge of finding a way to keep it. However, hooking it up to Euro broke the spell. When in doubt, the answer is always NO, regardless of the question.

@@CinematicLaboratoryI haven’t figured out the appeal of the Serge sequencer panels. I have a Korg sq-1 that was modified to use bananas and seems more useful in a lot of ways and at a fraction of the price. I just figured out how to make a VCO out of my DUSG so I’m now off to the races exploring Serge.

@@isaacc7 If you'd bring an SQ-1 to the 1970's they may think you also have a time machine in your DeLorean :). I find these sequencers super appealing when you go off grid, off scale. But when I have to make music I always get something more fancy.
"...the tedious process of tuning all the pots..." I have a Solar 50. That's 50 oscillators to tune. Bear the burden! It's worth the tedium.

Great series! Do you know wether serge systems/modules are made from discrete components? Or do they also use IC’s?

That's a bit to technical for me, but the NTO manual includes a DIY build guide (even though they don't offer kits anymore) that mentions SMD's and ICs.

@@CinematicLaboratory oh, too bad, I hoped it was discrete. My experience is that designs with discrete components (no chips) sound fatter/beefier; It’s the main reason why machines from the 50’s and 60’s sound so good. But discrete designs are more expensive and time consuming to make and they need more space. Some eurorack designers use discrete designs though…

An IC us basically just lots of transistors in one package (Integrated Circuit).

@@p.enzovoort8929 OK. but wouldn't that cause the pitch drift and bad tuning over many octaves + senstivity to heat and humidity? This is what Serge was trying to get rid off in these new designs.

@@CinematicLaboratory I don’t know about that, but I don’t think so because f.i. the Verbos Harmonic Oscillator or the AJH synth oscillator are also discrete designs…
Fuck it run that CV thru a euro quantizer They make .. oh wait .. u have a signal converter Carry on

Yeah, it's the cheapest module they have :)
