Paper Mario N64 is Still Great

Check out one of my all-time favorite games from my first console, Paper Mario. I wanted to take a look back at what made me love video games and explain what makes me gravitate to this particular game compared to the other classic N64 title. Think of Paper Mario as my origin tale learning to love video games and how I never lost interest throughout my childhood and young adult life.
Sorry for the delay, I meant to get this out in December but due to catching Covid, I was out for most of the month. Anyway, sit back and enjoy! I am happy with how this review came out.
P.S.: If you have any games you think I should review let me know! Send an email to birkeyskorner@gmail.com

    One aspect that makes this game more replay value than the Thousand Year Door, is its shorter length I can beat this game in just over 14 hours making it easier to go back to than its sequel which is usually twice as long

    Great video. Would love to see a whole Mario RPG series, encompassing the SNES game, Paper Mario series and the Mario and Luigi series. Definitely my preferred RPG games, mainly because of the battle systems that use the action commands. Origami King and Color Splash are fine for what they are but are definitely inferior to the other games. Sticker Star is best forgotten at this point. Color Splash did that games systems better, even if the battles are slower.

    Paper Mario is still an official sequel to Legend of the Seven Stars. It was the fall out between Nintendo and Square that made Nintendo develop Super Mario RPG 2 on their own into Paper Mario. The N64 being a cartridge system was a big part of the downfall between the 2 companies. A lot of people I feel don't know how important Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars was important for the Western Market in teaching Square what Western Players liked just as much as helping Nintendo get into RPGS.

    I still feel like the first 2 Paper Mario games should still be the standard to this series… iono what the higher ups were thinking after Super Paper Mario… paper jam, sticker star, etc are just not as fun. I just want a return to THIS. Thousand Year Door was a game that got me through some of the roughest times of my life so Paper Mario has a special place in my heart. I hope they AT LEAST rerelease TTYD on switch or something.

    Really liked your video! I played through the OG Paper Mario a lot as a kid, and it was so nostalgic playing it again over the pandemic. Recently got my hands on TTYD, and while I enjoy it a lot, I feel like the storyline and the music aren't nearly as great as the OG. How do you compare the 2?

  • @birkeyskorner

    @birkeyskorner

    Жыл бұрын

    Thank you! And that's a good question. For me, I know in my head that TTYD is better mechanically with its combat system and the partners have more in depth and engaging backstories (Admiral Bobbery for example). But I enjoy the main Paper Mario story more and I like the mushroom kingdom better as an overworld Also depending what I'm in the mood to play, TTYD has some more required grinding than the OG Paper Mario so if I wanted something more casual then I lean towards the original!

    I love finding a tiny channel that can put together quality content, but please, pleeeaaase don't beg for subs/likes. That's the sign of a big channel dying, don't wear it like a badge of honor

  • @castor2880

    @castor2880

    Bruh, now saying to please subscribe at the end of a video is “begging”?? You do realize that saying that sort of stuff actually helps a channel grow right? People forget to do that stuff sometimes, and call to actions have indeed been proven to work. Plus, it’s not like it was a super long part of the video, or that it asks for too much, it’s literally a tiny tiny part that just asks to click a button, which simply takes a second to do.

  • @Seltyk

    @Seltyk

    Жыл бұрын

    @@castor2880 it demonstrates that content creators put the metrics first and the content second. It interrupts otherwise cohesive content to remind the viewer that "I'm a KZreadr!" Making the content worse because "muh research said it werkz" is not how you grow an audience, it only makes the sub count bigger.

  • @castor2880

    @castor2880

    Жыл бұрын

    @@Seltyk I don’t know how you say it can interrupt content when it’s at the very end of the video after all is said and done. Besides, it doesn’t just make the sub count grow. If people subscribe, chances are KZread is going to recommend them more videos by the same channel, while if they forget, and there is no reminder to do so in the video itself, it’s possible they might not get another video by the same channel recommended, and as a result the viewer doesn’t specifically go out of their way to look for it because they forgot. I say this because this has happened to me before, when I leave a video that I liked and would like to see more of, but forget to subscribe and thus I never see the channel again until much later. It’s not always the case, but you can’t really blame anyone for trying, specially when it’s not particularly in your face, nor does it interrupt the pace of the video. Is a simple sentence at the end of a video really going to ruin your enjoyment of it?

  • @Seltyk

    @Seltyk

    Жыл бұрын

    @@castor2880 I admit it is a much, much lesser thing at the end of the video, but most put the begging in the first 2 minutes (including this video). When you interrupt your work just as things are speeding up, yes, it does soil my enjoyment of the video, because it destroys cohesion in the writing.
