I actually do the opposite. I keep an eye out on the map for when we lose areas, more specifically where they are lost. Then I go to the complete opposite location of where they are attacking and snag half their shit in one go

I've controlled the entire big map in single player before. Just maintain control of what you have and slowly expand into unclaimed areas. When someone invades you take em out and take their land that's now vacant.
