Papaji and the Buddha: A Talk by David Godman

This is a talk I gave outside my Tiruvannamalai home in February 2019. I look a little gaunt and thin because a few days before I had been discharged from hospital after having a total knee replacement. I apparently now look much better.
The texts that I read from can be obtained from the Avadhuta Foundation in Boulder, CO, USA.
avadhuta.com/nothing-ever-happ...
avadhuta.com/nothing-ever-happ...
avadhuta.com/papaji-interviews/
The three volumes of Nothing Ever Happened, my biography of Papaji, will be available from my site in a few weeks’ time.
The film of Papaji reminiscing about his early exposure to Buddhism can be viewed here:
• PAPAJI - Buddha
And a fuller account of Swami Ramanananda Giri can be found here.
sri-ramana-maharshi.blogspot.c...
Thanks to Jussi for arranging the talk and for looking after the subtitling on all my KZread films. And thanks to Jukka for filming and editing the film.

Honorable David, I won't go into any detail on my recent realization of the self, but I have been trying to retrace my steps through this incarnation and make sense of it all...because this expansive state seems so familiar the more I marinate in it. I have come to recognize that, like Papaji, I spent great swaths of time in awareness of self as a child. It explains my distant and unattached disposition that my parents and teachers complained of, and my distaste and unwillingness to participate in the "game" of life from a very early point in my development. Now I see that I wasnt "zoning out", but rather "tuning in". Thanks for your devotion to this most noble topic, and for your continued teachings on the life of these great saints. God's peace to you, Brother.

Papaji's vision of thousands and thousands of his lives was enough of a tale: his memory of the green incarnation was enough of a tale... and so, in the end, was Papaji asking to bring the Buddha in which ended up being a deeper layer of a sentence that seemed deep enough. And here we are ~ mighty grateful for your collecting these, David, and for your humble recounting. Time and distance slides away and so do differences of religion. ☯️ Imagine that. This slow plodder on the spiritual path feeling fine about exactly where I am after hearing this. ✨🕉️🙏📿🦋💙🛸 Namaste, everyone.
